Treasure Map boon question.

The treasure map boon says that when you would make a day job, check off a box, when you check 3 boxes. You find treasure totaling 150xlevel gp.

If you mark the 3rd box on the treasure map at the same time you earn enough experience to level, would it use your current level, or your new level?

I'm currently leaning towards current because you don't level up before day-job checks and it seems like it should happen at the same time.

I'm 5 and 2/3rds right now, with 2 treasure map boxes, waiting one extra session is worth it, but if I don't have to might as well not do it :D

You level up at the end of the scenario, but day job rolls are supposed to represent time between scenarios. To me, that means you should be able to use your new level in regards to GP earned.

My search-fu turned up nothing better than this thread, so my apologies if an answer includes a link to another thread (and also for the thread necro).

When you check off the third box, you are able to pay four prestige to find another treasure map and start the process again. My question is can you pay four prestige at the end of the second treasure map thereby gaining a third? If so is it infinite?

Thanks :)

When you roll a Day Job check but are about to level up, my understanding is that you make the check using your present (not higher level) skill modifiers. I would apply the same thinking to the Treasure Map, using the level that you're at rather than the one you're about to reach.

Hmm, Curaigh's question is a valid one. The boon says "You may spend 4 PP to acquire another promising map and reuse this boon; if you choose not to do so upon checking the final box on the Chronicle sheet, cross the entire boon of [sic] the Chronicle sheet. You may only use one Treasure Map at a time."

Nowhere does it impose a limit of x reuses, only that when you choose not to spend the PP to get a new one you then cross the boon off the sheet. And limiting it to one use at a time seems to indicate multiple reuses.

So can you keep spending 4 PP to obtain a new map as many times as you want?

So far as I've seen from the few other people who have this boon, yes, you can renew the boon as often as you have 4 PP to do so. If you ever mark the final box and don't spend the 4 PP, it is gone for good.

considering that 4 prestige can get you 2x750 GP items, it seems a waste to reuse the boon...by the time it becomes equivalent to 4 prestige (10th level, 1500 gp) and you would have to forgo two more day job rolls to re use it.

I agree that by the raw Prestige-to-gold conversion, refreshing the Treasure Map boon is not a great deal, but for those interested in saving money for larger purchases (remember the 750 gp item has no resale value), it can be quite nice.

Another perk is that it allows those without day jobs to feel like they're getting something out of the day job roll phase. That feeling of usefulness and "hey, I have a boon for that" is quite valuable for many players, and I'm glad the boon strikes a fairly reasonable balance between satisfaction and cost.

Like John says—I've seen a witch use this boon to get, I believe, something like 450+600+750+900+1050+1200+1350=6300 gp, which was then enough to finish financing his upgrade to a +6 intelligence on his headband (it was 1/3 of the upgrade from +4 to +6 all on its own).

There are also other "factors" that could play into your decision about the Treasure Map too ;)
