Immune to cold implies vulnerable to fire and visa versa?

Rules Questions

RPG Superstar 2015 Top 8

I read in a "lesser known rules" thread that creatures that are immune to fire are automatically also vulnerable to cold and visa versa. I can't find a reference for this in the actual rules, however. Does anyone know where in the rules this comes from? It's not under universal monster rules, nor is it under special abilities. Is it even really a rule? It seems dumb to me and impossible to me. If it where a rule, there would be exceptions to it, but I have never seen a monster that was written with "immune fire, cold affects normally"

Where did you read this? This effect is a glitch left over from 3.x, and should have been errata'ed out by now.

That is not a rule, but it is generally true.

Example: Most things immune to fire have the fire subtype, and are also weak against cold, but there is no rule that says a monster must have the fire subtype to be immune to fire.

It WAS errata'd out

See here?

I think I fixed that for you. The 'See here?' text was my own addition. The link still appears to just link to the Pathfinder RPG Core Rulebook though.

This is definitely not true. My group recently fought a devil who had immunity/resistance to both fire and cold. I don't remember what type it was. I think it was immune to one and resistant to the other. And that was a Pathfinder Society scenario, so I'm sure it's RAW.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

The fire subtype means "immune to fire, vulnerable to cold" and vice versa for the cold subtype. But that's not the case for simply having immunity without the subtype.

The thing about tag s rule, now apparently erratad out is it! As supposed to apply to every creature with immunity. But it was so obscure most people even game designers didn't seem to know about it. But no of monsters were designed using it that; maw are of.

Yeah when I try to click on the errata it makes me download it o.O No harm in people reading it :P

Silver Crusade

Just checked the Bestiary, and every devil in there is immune to fire and resistant to cold, except ice devils, which are immune to both.

THIS LINK works. It will take you right to the FAQ on the topic.
