Agreed. While I don't think it's likely to happen, as Paizo seem focussed on Golarion, I'd buy the heck out of a planescape-like AP.
They could compromise and create an AP which travels back and forth between Golarion and various Outer Planes. Something to do with the mysterious death of the god Aroden could involve journeys to multiple planes.

The trick is to combin some of them Numerian intrigue with foes from space would be what 29+23+13=65 votes! Plus to quote Charlie Sheen "Winning!"

Politics and intrigue between nations or along a frontier, leading to war. Not an AP with "a battle." I want a military campaign with armies on the move, charging horses, battles, clashing armies, feints, retreats, alliances, diplomacy, betrayal, the works.
The Frank Harryhausen tribute AP
Mythic journey covering various cool locales and monsters (the Odyssey meets Sinbad meets Jason and the Argonauts)
AP with the coolest dragon encounters and lairs that you have ever built and that we have ever seen.
Cult or alien/planar invasion that the PCs uncover. They must rally an underground resistance movement to fight the invaders. Think V or a few Star Trek episodes or Kull's serpent kingdom.
Mercantile focused AP. Maybe PCs building a merchant house. The trade/merchant analogy to Kingmaker.
Running a frontier keep or port town and the town that supports it.
Fight (or take over) organized crime in a city. The urban underworld AP.
Please no mega dungeons. There are already too many to buy and/or run. Borrrring. I want better than that.

Of course, what's interesting about all of this is that I believe JJ has said that the next three (at least) APs after Wrath of the Righteous are already set.
Of course, I'm exploding with curiosity, but will just have to wait. It would be interesting to see if any of them coincide with things that have popular interest (at least among the population of this message board thread, which is probably systematically different from the population of AP-buying customers as a whole).

I have a clear top five preferences. Note that these are not in any order except alphabetic because to me they're all awesomesauce.
John Pathfinder of Stars - I'm still hankering for a truly planet-hopping AP. While The Moonscar was technically off-world, it really didn't matter, as the location seemed to make little difference, and I have yet to see how the planetary stuff in Reign of Winter will play out, but I am afraid of more of the same ("Hey, we're on another planet!" "How's it different than Golarion?" "Dunno. I think it's always winter or something."). I'm talking true blue otherworldly weirdness. Heck, just thinking about it makes me want to read ERB's Martian Tales again.
Journey to the Center of Golarion - Such an awesome idea that I don't know why I never saw or thought of it until today. It has so much potential for truly awesome events and locations that I see it as a no-brainer.
Note that this would mesh well with an aboleth/seugathi-heavy plot. Which is not a bad thing in the slightest. And this adventure path would scratch my darklands itch in a bit way.
Megadungeon - I know this is probably hard to pull off from a plot standpoint, but damn it would be cool. And besides, I'm about to throw my players into Rappan Athuk, which will probably be twice the size of any adventure path megadungeon :)
Numeria - I still find this incredibly cool. One of the most fun things I did recently was threw four advanced/mythic annihilator robots at the party during the mythic playtest, and more of the same would be beyond awesome. Plus, I've been a huge fan of Gamma World since forever.
Planar - This will be hard to pull off, because the vast majority of the planar material is either overly general from a rules standpoint (Gamemastery Guide and The Great Beyond I'm looking at you). That means the AP itself would likely include a large quantity of new rules material - a difficult endeavor.
Plus, the obvious choices (devils, daemons or demons) would be a bit too trite, so there'd have to be a more compelling adventure that could span five books (I expect the first, low-level volume would be the 'hook').

In no particular order:
1. Osirion AP
2. Urban intrigue
3. Game of Thrones style political AP. obviously includes themes like war.
4. Dwarven focused AP
5. Elven focused AP
6. Thieves' Guild/crime-focused
7. War themed/focused
8. Arthurian style AP
9. Religion-focused AP
10. Viking AP
11. Orc AP. nowhere near enough orcs in Golarion thus far.
12. Arcane academy AP.
And my far-out concession to a planar AP. The PCs start out as recently-deceased souls awaiting Pharasma's judgement. The PCs end up traveling the planes to learn who they were, why they were killed, with the goal of either ascending to a higher-order outsider or being restored to life and then exact justice on those who slew them. Kind of a trippy, plane-hopping whodunit.

Paizo recently released a megadungeon called Thornkeep and will soon be releasing another megadungeon called The Emerald Spire.
Both also have accompanying map-packs.
And Shattered Star is a dungeon-delving AP.
With all of that in mind... why are people still asking for a megadungeon?
I'm hoping the Emerald Spire will sate my desire for a megadungeon. FWIW though, Thornkeep isnt big enough to be a megadungeon in my book (though I doubt there's any widely accepted defining size).
As for Shattered Star, my request for a megadungeon AP is not because I like to spend lots of time in a dungeon (a need which would be filled by Shattered Star). I dont request a megadungeon AP because I want to read lots of indoor descriptions, it's because I'd like to see how Paizo developed a story using the elements peculiar to a megadungeon. I think it would be a unique environment, replete with its own special flavor of politics, squabbling over resources, jockeying for control/territory and so forth. Actually tackling those elements without it just being a succession of rooms with mildly different contents is something very rarely pulled off, in my experience.
As I said though - I'm very much hoping that Emerald Spire will live up to my expectations. Granted it wont be a story, as such, but if it manages to capture the dynamic, interactive nature I envisage for a true megadungeon, I will be very happy.

This made me think of a Celestial Bureaucracy screw-up adventure.
PCs are met in the Boneyard by some Psychopomp book keeper.
"Wait, why are you guys here? You're not supposed to die for at least another decade. "
Then they have to go through the red tape...err adventure and actually figure out hey why they were there.. only to find out at the end that it was a accounting error.

In the latest Know Direction podcast, they were talking with Tim Pratt about his fiction works for Paizo, including ideas he's pitched that haven't happened. He wanted to write a book set in Numeria, but Paizo wasn't ready to have a full length book set there because they weren't ready to detail it yet. Later he mentioned that he would have a novel set in Numeria in 2014, so I guess that gives us some hints...

One for the ages: A AP that extends over periods of ages teens, young adults, middle age, venerable.
Have one where you start out as a 15th level so and so. only to die a horrible death at the hands of the BBEG. Restart at first level in isotubes and you would be clones who would be trying to get back your abilities and equipment.
historical AP: set when the starstone fell, or during Thassilionaion rule.

lordzack wrote:^ Really? I can count the number of megadungeons available on my hands.10 megadungeons is a lot of megadungeons.
Compare with the number of Numeria APs...
Well, it's less than 10, but certainly more than the number of Numeria APs, I agree. I definitely want to see a Numeria AP before I see a Megadungeon AP. A Megadungeon wouldn't even be in my top 3.
But to say that there are "too many" Megadungeons already out there is borderline farcical. I don't care if it's done by Paizo or a solid 3PP, it would be nice to see more offerings in this category. From 3rd edition onward, I can think of five actual Megadungeons. That's it.
With all that in mind, still Why? Because all that stuff in mind has nothing to do with Megadungeons. Because they haven't done one yet. Emerald Spire will (hopefully) satisfy those of us who do want one. Thornkeep isn't even close to being an actual Megadungeon. It's a large dungeon, but not a Megadungeon. The fact that some people consider Thornkeep a Megadungeon shows that they don't necessarily "get" what the "Megadungeon Crowd" is actually asking for. Take a look at the samples provided in Dungeons of Golarion for a good idea of what a Megadungeon actually is.
And Shattered Star, as a dungeon-delving AP, is not the same thing as a single Megadungeon. Again, that's not what's being asked for. Shattered Star is awesome, very awesome, but it's not the same thing. Just because some people want a Megadungeon doesn't mean they're "dungeon crazy" and just want more dungeons. That's not it.

I would like a Numeria AP, but lately I have been pondering Osirion.
Osirion is a popular choice.
What would an Osirion AP look like to people?
In my opinion something like the combination of the first two mummy movies.
Third one doesn't count.

There's so many ideas they could do. Some stuff I'd love to see includes:
* Aboleths. This could be either an underwater or darklands AP, but I think the former might be more interesting. Not a lot of aquatic adventures and tricky to pull off so having professionals do it would be appealing. And Paizo has been teasing aboleths for a while.
* Numeria. Nuff said. I imagine this would involve someone taking control of the crashed ship, or just searching for it.
* Great Game of Thrones. Likely in Brevoy, but the big intrigue nobility adventure. Or possibly set in in a larger city and focused on spying and courtly intrigue. Making allies, spying, learning secrets, earning influence, and working to become the power behind the throne.
* War. Wrath of the Righteous does this a bit but I think a big Lord of the Rings/ 300 AP would be fun. A horde of orcs is rampaging across the countryside and the PCs have to stop them. Start with dealing with scouting parties and work to small squads of soldiers. Evacuate towns in the path of the horde the defend a key location under a seige to delay the horde. Unite the region into an army then strike back.

Here are my votes in no particular order:
Underwater/Deep Sea - Explore the equivalent of the lost city of Atlantis.
Megadungeon - An adventure path based on a large dungeon equivalent to Undermountain but in the Darklands. I would also like to see a Module like this in hardback or a boxed set.
Airship - An adventure based in an Airship exploring floating islands and other places.
Urban/City - An adventure based in a large city
Race Specific - An adventure path based on helping other races (Dwarf, Elf, Halfling, Catfolk, etc.)

I am pretty keen on a Numeria path, an urban Galt path and a Geb/Nex/mana wastes path. I would also take a down-to-earth Darkmoon Vale path. A Indy and the last crusades homage around the sun orchid elixir would be cool too.
What I really want is Linnorm Kingmaker. Less on the hexploration this go around but maybe a book devoted to some hexploration (I.e., raiding) at sea. Maybe make a trip to The Mordant Spire in the process. Throw in some Fafneir (maybe via a curse ridden would-be unifier of the lands ; ) as the big "bad." I like it!
Qualidar |
Now that we're seeing Alkenstar and Numeria, I'm not sure what I want next! I think something in Garund, most likely Geb/Nex, but I guess I'd like to hold that off until something a bit more mainstream came along first. Linnorm Kings could fit that bill, as could a ton of others, I guess.
Along the same lines of "I would like to see it, but not next", I would say I would very much support an AP in Quadira, Jalmeray/Vudra, and an all-Tian Xia path.
An actual Fight the Chellaxian Power AP would be good too.

Sadly, as soon as I saw that they'd placed the Axe of the Dwarvish Lords, I knew the Beer & Beards dwarf AP wasn't happening any time soon. If by 2015 people are looking for a more normal fantasy AP, I'd like to see one set in Galt. Like Kingmaker, and like Wrath of the Righteous in being able to change the canon Golarion.

I'd like to go on record as saying that ALL the APs change the canon of Golarion . . . but only in your individual campaigns if you play them! That, in my opinion, remains the brilliance of Paizo's design choice for APs.
If we're kinda starting anew with stuff, I'd still love to see a Land of the Linnorm Kings AP (vikings vs. witches!). Also, I'm a huge fan of the fey, so anything First World-related is win by me. I'll continue to make it known that I'd love to see a draconic AP one day, too!
