I'd like to see a live-action version of The Last Unicorn. I love the old Rankin-Bass animated version, but I think special effects have progressed enough to make a live-action version completely viable. They could get even Christopher Lee to reprise his role as King Haggard.
I think I just really want to see the final confrontation between the unicorn and the Red Bull play out in live action.

Remake
Dark Floors - hell was that a wasted opportunity
Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter but animated instead of live action cause there is no way in hell to do justice to them live action
D&D but keep it dark and forget dragons and dungeons themselves in the movie
Twilight - complete remake so it isn't a stupid story, make it darker, keep the original lore of vampires and give us an actual love story than a stupid obsession of two teenagers
Krull - take out all the travel montages and update the graphics i think this could be good

heres my take
for those who said LOTR, we just had it not long ago. and i thought it was good, so leave it alone.
i second a darker and more realistic star wars.
d&d but call it pathfinder and base the movies of the adventure paths.
as for firefly, its done. im not saying it wasnt good, but i definitely think it wasnt as good as people make it out to be. it had its time, and although prematurely cancelled, its gone. they had a movie. best move on to other series and love firefly for what it was, not for the potential that will most likely never be remade.
street fighter was never street fighter. people had gi's and sh*t. thats not what a street fighter is.
i actually liked waterworld, where as most people dont. i think a remake could work so people will realize its actually pretty good.
as for new stuff, id like to see either a movie series to tv series based on the classic world of darkness. lets get all these phonies and sparkling sh*t out of here and show people the REAL way vampire should (and most likely would) be.
id like to see another movie similar to dark crystal. never touch the original though. its great.
and remake eragon. the books are very good and there was so much potential lost with that fail a** excuse for a movie.
do the same for harry potter. so much potential just lost.

Aw, c'mon, that was the most riveting vampire soap opera since Dark Shadows...

that doesnt count. making a show that doesnt even have one full season and is garbage does not satisfy the world that is CWOD.

I am very against remaking movies done right the first time. A classic is a classic. Example: The original Star Wars trilogy. In the name of the Force, leave it alone!!
However, there are some movies that were screwed up the first time. These movies deserve a remake from people that actually understand the source material:
- I, Robot: Will Smith movie was actually an unrelated script called "Hardwired" that was renamed for marketing purposes. Remake this using Harlan Ellison's script based on the Asimov novel! And no Fresh Prince this time, please.
- Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Huge disappointment. It was obvious where Douglas Adams died and somebody else picked up writing it.
- Damnation Alley: Another post mentioned above. Great story, awful movie.
- Screamers: Philip K. Dick's great story "Second Variety" deserves to be made into a movie properly.
- War of the Worlds: Why have all adaptations of this novel failed so horribly to get the point of the novel?
- Land of the Lost: I hate Will Farrell for this. It's weird he made such a terrible version of it as he seems to be a fan. This series was brilliant. All you have to do is keep the scripts and remake the special effects, which were the only weak point. This is under-appreciated as one of the top sci-fi series ever.
- Lost In Space: I grant you, this is a hard show to remake as the early and later series are vastly different in tone. The early shows were serious sci-fi with occasional humor. TV execs then made them camp it up in the latter seasons to compete with Batman.
- I am Legend: Another Will Smith fiasco! I think there are almost half a dozen attempts to turn this novel into a movie. All failed. Can somebody please make this right?
- The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen: How about you actually stick to the graphic novel next time? Oh, and leave Sean Connery out, please.
- Tron Legacy: I love Tron. The "sequel" was not completely horrible, but holy silicone, it wasn't good either. Decent soundtrack saved it. The biggest problem I had was the *lack* of CGI. The one movie where you could totally wow people with computer graphics and they skimp the budget by only putting it in a few scenes (almost all in the trailers)? Lazy film-making.
- Highlander: This franchise had an interesting idea. The TV series was actually better than the awful movies. How about you start over and make it right this time. Without Sean Connery.
- Dungeons & Dragons: All of the books, modules, video games, and 30+ years of other material and you make this dreck? They could have picked up any Gary Gygax adventure and had a better script. :P
- The Dresden Files: OK, the TV series was cute and got me to read the books, but it was like a "Saturday Morning Cartoon" version of Butcher's novels. Please, can somebody do a true version of the other wizard named Harry?
- Wizard of Oz: Yes, I know everybody loves the musical. I do too. But you have to understand, this was a 20-volume book series! While not Lord of the Rings, the books are a *little* darker than the musical--somewhere closer to the early Harry Potter books. I would love to see a non-musical remake.
- The Six Million Dollar Man: Would he be 6 billion this time? Maybe not with the cheap price of components these days. I would love to see a remake that blended the Lee Majors series with Martin Caidin's Cyborg.
- Riverworld: Sci-Fi Channel made an attempt, but it could be made better.
- John Carter: I liked the movie, but it was poorly marketed, too slow moving, and everybody wore too many clothes (the novels had all characters naked).
- Alice in Wonderland/Through The Looking Glass: While there have been several attempts at Alice in Wonderland, there have been very few of Through the Looking Glass. Would love to see them both done right.

I actually really liked the version of Screamers(second variety) with Peter Weller. P.K.Dick is my favorite author. You want to talk about botched Dick jobs how about; Minority Report, Paycheck, Total Recall 2012?

You want to talk about botched Dick jobs
No, chances are that will get the thread locked. ;-)
I agree with darth about I Am Legend. The ending of the Will Smith vehicle had me about tearing my hair out. What a crock of creamed crap that was.
I'm just glad there wasn't a version made in the 80s when Arnie was in his heyday. I could see him as the neighbor out on the lawn yelling "Come out, Bennett! Come out!!!"

Sadly, yes.

Never watch the theatrical ending. The original ending that the test audience killed isn't perfect, but it's a hell of a lot closer to the spirit of the story that the new one they grafted on.
There's a reason why I Am Legend made it on Cracked.com's list of great movies ruined by last moment changes.
