I had a question come up during a session that I hadn't thought of before: if the players have a mission that particular items are nearly required and known to be needed ahead of time (in this case cold weather gear when traveling into the frozen tundra in Irrisen), would the Pathfinder Society supply those things for the duration of the mission if asked? They would be returned at the end of the adventure, so the characters cannot keep them for later.
As I haven't found this stated anywhere in particular my gut reaction is no, but it would be sensible. Grandmaster Torch especially would very much like to see Pathfinder agents go into the field as prepared as possible, so I can see it as something he requested when the Shadow Lodge was brought back into the society.

Remember that the first set of clothing is free, so you can always get that cold-weather gear first and buy, say, your explorer's gear second. :D
But yeah, I see what you mean by getting things 'borrowed' by the Society. Perhaps by the faction? That would be a cool Prestige Point spend thingy for a faction like the Shadow Lodge; for a nominal PP cost you can borrow something truly substantial from the Shadow Lodge for the duration of a scenario. If I were running a Pathfinder home game, I'd allow something like that.

We have plans for at least one upcoming occasion in which the Pathfinder Society will provide equipment to PCs to face an overwhelming threat. Details on how this will work will be part of the scenario in which it occurs, and will be based on what gear the PCs have gained access to in the past (though not necessarily what they've purchased). Stay tuned!

Now you made me wonder I can't wait to see what you have in store for my players.
