Star Charts in Pathfinder

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

Seeing as how Pathfinder is including different worlds what about stars? Constellations? Does something like this already exist and I missed it, or is it asking too much? Sure we ask the world of our favorite game and they delivered several of them (though it would be nice to have complete maps of them...). Is the visual universe too much?

All I need is a tall ship and a star to sail her by.

Are you talking about a diagram, showing canonically all the positions of all the stars in the sky of a fictional world? Has any game world, ever, made something like that? Is it even possible?

Sure I've seen constellations for Dragonlance and other settings, though not depicted accurately in the night sky or anything like that.

Something like that, but not necessarily accurate.

A list of the named constellations would be amazing, with perhaps some descriptions such as red stars, proximity to the pole star, etc.

Also, any comets that frequent Golarion's skies could be handy as plot hooks or mood setters.

Do we have something like that? Kind of entertainingly, yes, we do. In fact, during the Second Darkness Adventure Path when we did Sutter's first article on the solar system, I did the sidebar on the constellations (and later more on the cosmic caravan). That involved plotting out the constellations for both Golarion's northern and southern hemispheres. We talked about getting a legit artistic representation done and using those charts on the inside covers of an AP, but gradually we moved away from doing "art piece" inside covers to something more content driven. So those charts live in my not insignificant apocrypha drawer, waiting for the perfect product to be included in. It just hasn't come along quite yet, but they're a combination of too cool and not professional enough to slip out as a freebee. So they wait.

Like maybe a Player's Companion on fortunetelling and astrology... huuuuummmmm.... Might be something there.

Regardless, yeah, check out Pathfinder #14, page 52 for a whole sidebar on constellations and more in Distant Worlds!

Ooooh, when you put it like that I REALLY dig it. We did a whole issue of Dragon on Astrology centuries ago and certain powers thought that was the dumbest idea. Now, with Golarion, the Harrow, constellations, the Cosmic Caravan, a solar system, Troll Augers, and the Age of Lost Omens, I think we could pull off something really cool.

Yeah, this is on the idea list. :P

So where is it and why can't I buy it yet?

The use of Astromancy is interesting and the article mentioned above used in a game like traditional DnD is kind of wasted but in Golarion I'd love to see a rewrite of it with the astrologist priest in mind. I'd suggest When the Sky Falls, some goodies for your local star worshiping death cult and those astrologers who mix magic with space stuff.

I see a huge poster of the night sky, with constellations, as an additional product!

Normal poster size at least! Something frameable.

I agree, Laruuk.

Ah, yes. New worlds to bring balance to.
