The Black Eyed Peas were good?

Nope.

Hip-hop is ever-improving.

We don't need to get all dewy-eyed for a forgotten past. Nostalgia isn't always bad but it doesn't need to be framed in a disparagement of the present.

We can embrace new things instead.

Wasn't a commentary on hip hop, just the decendancy of BEP into...whatever the hell it is they do now.

I don't remember then either. I missed it.

Oh, Ankle, how you wound me!

No, seriously I missed it. I don't have an opinion on them one way or the other. Not sure I know even one of their songs...

It has a link and everything.

I know, I just felt the urge to take this thread in a new direction, inspired by your comment.

In all honesty, I hadn't heard of BEP until that dude was on The Voice.

Yeah, I get that alot. "I've listend to BEP since the 90's..." is usually met with "They were around then?" Yes. And they were better.

But not hearing about them at all...wow.

I think I heard some of their songs in the 2000s, but I certainly couldn't name any of them.

And my data cap disallows most youtube use, so I have to hear this stuff on the radio. And I haven't heard them on the radio in ages.

On the topic of bands named after ingredients . . . what about the Red Hot Chili Peppers?

Listened to them since the 90's also :)

Well, when I said that someone played me a few songs and I was kinda aware of a few of them.

I live in the UK, I don't know if they're bigger in other countries.

I also pretty much listen to a non-mainstream radio station for my music radio (BBC 6 Music) and don't watch any pop-tv. My fiance and I often leave shops because we can't stand the awful music they are playing, so that might indicate how little I allow chart music to enter my ears.

It's easy to miss out on stuff. I hadn't heard of the Pixies until I was about 17, even though I was a big fan of grunge and indie-rock... turned out half of my favourite bands were influenced by them.

And I hadn't heard of Tom Waits 'til I was 17/18 either... stuff like that just happens sometimes.

I remember when MTV played music videos and was not "the real world" channel.
