Rules Questions

Was this "ruling" by Jason Nelson ever added to a FAQ or something similar?

Also: Yes, a lion shaman could turn into a Huge tiger at 6th level, but could not turn into any kind of anything at 4th-5th (except for the partial changes allowed with the totem transformation).

Source: Huge tiger

Thanks in advance,

Dan.

prd says
Wild Shape (Su): At 6th level, a lion shaman's wild shape ability functions at her druid level – 2. If she takes on the form of a feline, she instead uses her druid level + 2.

Why would a FAQ be necessary?

The lion shaman gains wild shape at level 6.
A level 6 lion shaman counts as level 4 druid for non lions and a level 8 druid for lions. At level 8, a druid can do a huge form.

Well, with "creative interpretation" that thought process works like this:
- From level 6 on it works at +2 for totem animal and at -2 for everything else
- It doesn't say anything about level 4 or 5
- It doesn't say that they get wildshape only at 6
- Therefore at 4 and 5 it works like a normal druid.

The problem with the Huge tiger is that there is no huge tiger in the bestary that I'm aware of, and druids can't apply templates like Giant to their wildshape to make them bigger (however, most GMs will probably allow it).

Thats the reason why nearly all Shamans sucks

What if the druid also had the Powerful Shape Feat?

Could they be a gargantuan tiger?

Powerful Shape doesn't actually increase size. The druid is treated as being one size larger for the purpose of CMB, CMD, and special attacks (not their base natural attacks however) that factor size. In Wild Shape the Druid can still only get to Huge without other magical assistance, but, for example, they would be treated as gargantuan for the purpose of Trample, even though their actual size is huge.

I'm confused. Since when could you choose the size of the specific animal you are wildshaping into? That seems to be what Jason is implying in that other thread. There are no "huge" tigers in any of the Bestiaries.

That's my question and it's the way I've always read Beast Shape; especially after Jason's comment.

The problem is that most players have read the rules in a way that the size of the Druid is based on the creature's size. I read it that the size of the Druid is based on the spell (Beast Shape).

If the size is based on the creature and not the spell, how can an Eagle shaman wild-shape into a Roc? If this is not possible, how did such a big "ops" slip through and what was the designer thinking at the time he wrote the rules?

I just figured he meant that if a Huge tiger existed in some splatbook somewhere, then a lion shaman could turn into one at level 6.

This is why I prefer Saurian Shaman.

Plenty of good choices at all sizes.

I believe Jason Nelson also left a comment saying Animal Shamans should be able to change the size of their favored forms (as the young and giant templates), but that requires either errata or an exception from the GM.
