Good 1-shot (not We Be Goblins)

Advice

So a coworker who can't get an L5R game gave up trying just as I am giving up trying to resurrect my old gaming group. He has 4 players (plus himself, so I'd have 5) who may be up for a One-Shot adventure. I REALLY want to create a stable group of gamers so I want to offer a..."typical" adventure; playing goblins to learn PFRPG may turn 'em off. 'Might turn 'em on, too, but I want to play it kinda safe.

Point is: what's a good, published adventure that is good for a one-shot that I can use to convert some gamers of varying levels of experience to PFRPG?

Thanks in advance.

I liked First Steps part II as it was partially an RP adventure for the into and a typical duengon crawl with a variety of critters.

The Godsmouth Heresy is a fun module.

Pathfinder Modules (the product line) can sometimes take more than one session to complete. A Pathfinder Society Module is designed for a single session and might be a good intro. Just ignore the faction stuff, or maybe build that into the story more directly so that everybody can participate.

I just started playing PFS, and I've only played one PFS module, so I'll have to leave it up to someone else to suggest a good one for your purposes.

PFS stuff might very well be a good idea since it's not like I have any reason to keep track of experience (what? I only got ONE xp!?!). The only potential issue I see is that they depend on an existing reason (boss says so; it's my job...) to do stuff.

I haven't read Godsmouth Heresy. I'll give it a look.

First Steps sounds like a great idea but, like Godsmouth, I haven't read or played it. Now's as good a time as any, my only PFS character didn't do 'em but others probably will.

Master of the Fallen Fortress (available as a free PDF) is a decent short 1st level "dungeon-crawl" adventure. If your group is OK with an urban investigative scenario using 5th level PCs, then Dawn of the Scarlet Sun (free PDF here) can work.

If you don't mind converting from 3.5 to Pathfinder, then the Falcon's Hollow series (Hollow's Last Hope, Crown of the Kobold King, Carnival of Tears, and Revenge of the Kobold King) make a pretty good set of related "one-shots." Hollow's Last Hope and Revenge of the Kobold King are also available as free PDFs.

I'd second "Hollow's Last Hope" - I'm about to take a group of mostly inexperienced players through it using the Beginner Box rules, and the conversion from 3.5 has been easy. It would be even easier to convert it to the full PFRPG rules - and it looks pretty fun and well thought-out, if you're aiming to do a low-level adventure.

Another thought - it's more complicated than low-level play, but playing mid-level characters offers a lot more variety in what characters can do and is more likely to hook them on the game. I don't have an adventure of that level to recommend, as I'm just diving in to PF after a long dry spell where I didn't have a D&D group, but I'm sure others here would.

While not really a typical adventure, since your GM wanted an L5R game, Rite Publishing has a FREE one-shot adventure designed for 5 characters of 5th level called Frozen Wind.

Frozen Wind is set in Rite Publishing's Kaidan Japanese Horror setting for PFRPG - it's a survival horror involving a mountain snow storm, some frozen menaces. It runs about 3.5 hours. This was initially a demo game for Kaidan run at Origins, but has proven to be very popular - we released it last Halloween. And I did say it was FREE...

Speaking of Kaidan, we just started our Kaidan Campaign Setting Kickstarter - it might worth looking at.
