Making an Angel

Advice

Liberty's Edge

Hey all. I'm going to be playing in a new tabletop Pathfinder game here (hopefully) soon, and I want to make a character who is angelic. I'm not really familiar with any ways to do this in Pathfinder, though, so I'll go ahead and ask the boards.

In order to really fit the concept of the angelic character, the following key points must be realized:

Flight, preferably at-will and with wings rather than magical, but I know this one will be difficult, so as close to at-will flight as possible.

Some kind of ward against evil.

Some kind of way of punishing or smiting evil.

The ability to speak all languages.

Protection against acid, cold, poison, and petrification.

Obviously, all of this must be accomplished while my character is of the Good alignment.

Starting level is 7. I know I will probably have to work up to this, and I don't mind that, it could be fun roleplaying, but I would like to have at least one or two angelic traits realized at this point. Also, I would like to accomplish this by using as little multiclassing as possible. (The only reason I don't go straight oracle is because I am not aware of any way for the oracle to gain flight).

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.

Pretty sure all of that is doable by an aasimar oracle with no multiclassing needed, particularly if you have access to the Advanced Race Guide. A Life Oracle with the tongues curse would probably be the easiest way to go about it, though I can think of a few other options as well.

I second it should be doable especially if you have access to the Advanced Race Guide.

Are you guys talking about the Purifier racial archetype? It does grant the ability to Alignment Channel, which is decent, but that only works on evil outsiders, not on "evil" itself. I was talking more about things like holy word or smite evil that affect a creature based on its evil alignment period.

And really, the flight is my biggest concern here...I'm reading through the cleric/oracle spell list now to see if they gain flight.

Liberty's Edge

No, the aasimar feats in the ARG; Angel Wings isn't available until level 10, but grants you, well, angel wings. As for the evil smiting, that would probably have to come out of your spells known - but the cleric list has plenty that do what you're looking for, so it shouldn't be a problem.

From the ARG

Angel Wings (Aasimar)
Feathered wings sprout from your back.

Prerequisites: Angelic Blood, aasimar, character level 10th.

Benefit: You gain a pair of gleaming feathered wings that grant a fly speed of 30 feet (average maneuverability) if wearing light armor or unencumbered, or 20 feet (poor maneuverability) with a medium or heavy load or medium or heavy armor. Fly is a class skill for you.

* Look up racial feats in the pfsrd, there might be some more appropriate ones.

note : Ninjas r everywhere..

Ah! Fantastic! I was not aware of the existence of this feat. That solves the biggest problem I was facing. Then yes, an aasimar oracle it is.

Now, I just need to pick a mystery and a curse...say, does anyone have any suggestions for gear for an angel? Starting wealth for 7th is 23,500 gp. I might get a wand of detect evil just so I don't have to waste a spell known on it, but are there any particularly Good magic items?

Aasimars can get wings with racial feats I think.

That heavily depends on what kind of rol you want to fill. Melee, archery, blaster, debuffer or supporter.

I would ask your GM if you can take the wing feat early so your character can have the wings. But not get flight until 10th. But maybe enough to reduce falling damage, since you are taking the feat early. I know I as a GM would allow it.

As for curse and mystery, my question is. Are you allowed only official Paizo Pathfinder books and all of them and/or any 3pp books? Plus as Nicos said what kind of role are you looking to full fill.

Alternately, consider a synthesist summoner. You can get winged flight at level 5.

Also dur I can't believe I forgot this, but if you don't have it. I recommend picking up Blood of Angels Pathfinder book.

An interesting proposition. Yeah, I'll ask him about this.

Yes, only Paizo PF, no 3pp. As for the role, well, I wasn't really thinking about that. I just want to play an angel. I suppose I would like to be a defensive buffer (to protect my party from evil), as well as an evil-hating blaster. Then melee for when I'm not destroying evil.

Liberty's Edge

I think I'm going to go with the Oracle of Battle, as it will give me a bunch of bonus feats to augment my combat prowess in order to make up for all the feat slots I'm spending on racial feats.

Not to mention Angel Blood feat, gives bonuses vs evil, angel skin, which gives a choice of bonuses, and you can trade darkvision for a bloody halo! The angel bit can totally be done. I second oracle of life. Energy Body totally fits the theme.

Actually this is the very NPC I made as a healbot for the game I'm DMing. She is evil and has the lame curse though. For all her angelic power and healing she curses the Gods for her lameness which she cannot heal. Check out the aasimar favored class oracle bonus. +1/2 level on one escalation ability. I got her channeling 5d6 at 6th level!

I saw that, and I have a question about it. Can I choose a different revelation each time I get the bonus, or am I stuck with the same revelation every time? For instance, at 7th level, could I spend 2 levels of my Favored Class bonus getting my Weapon Mastery revelation a +1 bonus, and then the other 5 levels giving my Maneuver Mastery revelation a +2.5 bonus?

Liberty's Edge

Definitely going with the Tongues curse. Solves another issue I was having. Now, once I hit 15th level I will be able to speak and understand all languages just like an angel (except in combat).

No one has mentioned the Strix? Flight right away.

Outer Rifts Mystery might not be bad as long as you GM is willing to let you reward stuff. Like instead of Balefire rename it Holyfire and change Demonhide to Angelic Armor etc. You can check it out here at D20PFSRD.

In blood of Angels right now there is an alternative racial ability (Its a d100 roll but your DM might let you pick it, especially if you want to use the wings feat) that gives you wings and a 20 foot fly speed from level 1.

Theres also alternative cosmetic wings of several type you can pick if you want, though these offer no mechanical advantage.

The Tiefling have a level 1 feat that offers basic wings too, might be able to create a custom version of that for Aasimar if your GM is cool with it.

Also: the air mystery gives you Wings of Air at 7th level. But clearly, the winged aasimar 20' is better if your GM will let you have it.

Take a Tiefling

Take BoF/CoT All-Around Vison sub for Darkness and say you have eyes everywhere.
Take ARG's "vestigial wings" alternate racial trait and say you have 4+ of them.

Boom, more angel like than outsiders with the angel subtype.

After this go Magus and use your Arcane Pool to give your weapon Flaming and use Spell Blending to get Dazzling Blade and say it is a result of your weapon defying basic laws of physics and not looking shiny for even more angel.
