Hapless heroes fall into place, do these broken souls have the will to become heroes?

Hello potential play-by-post gamers.

I am looking for odd PF characters.

I am thinking 25 point buy.Sounds good, right?

Is there a character you have wanted to try that everyone else says bad things about and tells you it is a bad idea?

Then you are in luck I want to see your unoptimized PC and idea for the development of the unoptimized PC.

Core and APG should work out fine!

Just concepts for now (please do not spend too much time un-optimizing your character!)

Spoiler:

A person who is willing to make and link combat maps into the pbp thread gets brownie points....

Any Questions?

I'm interested.

I have the concept of a Norse drunken brawler Monk that uses armor, so loses Monk AC bonus, fast movement, and Fluury of blows. Maybe take the VoP that people are nagging about, but I don't have UM (or any PF book I just use PRD), so I don't know what it does.

Any other information about the campaign concept?

Style of game, or any particular AP?

Spoiler:
Also, I can map I use PowerPoint, here's an example MAP. Since I'm visual, I need maps to know what's going on, so I will do it if it means we have a map.

I just want to try a summoner broodmaster halfling really really badly with as many little "friends" as possible that look like stuffed animals. She's meant to be very childlike and innocent so no weapons or offensive spells for her. Merely sweetness, innocence, and a pack of rabid teddy bears.

*sigh* sadly you're not allowing UM as of yet. :(

I can do maps over maptools and paste the results rather quickly as I've been doing for my CoT game.

I sometimes bend the rules for the story....

I have the "Ashardaldon series" that I am thinking about running

Spoiler:

Sunless Citadel
Forge of fury
The Speaker in Dreams
The Standing Stone
Heart of Nightfang Spire
Deep Horizon
Lord of Iron Fortress
Bstion of Broken Souls

I also have Keep on the Borderlands which covers several levels!

I am also open to starting at a level other than 1st, therefore starting at an appropriate place in the ashardaldon series.

What do I need to know about the broodmaster? I can look over it!

What about a Vow of Poverty Halfling Grappling Monk?

Vow of Poverty from UM:
In PF all it gives you is 1 extra Ki point per 2 levels. You are limited to 6 common items, and only one item of any value.

Big fan of the Ashardalon series and would be happy to start at level 1 or higher depending on what others are into.

Sounds like a fine idea!

It's a summoner that at lvl 2 adn beyond can split its eidolon into a bunch of smaller eidolons. Unfortuantely it also splits its skills, feats, and evolutions among them as well. Combine that with the fact that they don't heal naturally it can be a pain to keep them up.

Let us open that can of worms!

Yes I like it!

Sovereign Court

Interested in a game as well,

I got two ideas. First is a middle-aged or old Human or dwarf former town guard that goes through a mid life crisis and figures he needs to do something special before he dies. This one will be a fighter with the negatives from being older.

The second Idea will be a fallen pally that lost himself in the city night life and coming up on recent events is trying to repent from his life of sin and get back in the order. The race will probably be human but would like at least 2 levels so I could do second in rogue. Now he’s trying to do whatever it takes to get back in his gods good graces.

Let me know what you think Kenderkin or if you need me to add more to my concepts.

hmmmmm....

Interesting.....

KenderKin - spent a few minutes throwing something together. I know you said no detailed concepts yet, but hey I was bored :P

Let me know if you like it and the other concepts you get enough to want to see anything more.

Halfling Grappler Monk Extraordinaire:
Halfling Monk (Ki Mystic Archetype)
Strength: 8 -1
Dexterity: 18 +4
Constitution: 14 +2
Intelligence: 10 +0
Wisdom: 16 +3
Charisma: 12 +1

AC Bonus (Ex): add Wisdom bonus to AC and CMD.
Flurry of Blows (Ex)
Unarmed Strike: 1d4 damage
Monk Bonus Feat: Improved Grapple: no AoO when performing grapple. +2 on checks to grapple and CMD to resist grapple.
Stunning Fist (Ex)
Vow of Poverty

Feat: Agile Maneuvers: add Dex bonus to BAB and Size to determine CMB

Favored Class: Monk – add 1 to CMD when resisting grapple and +1/2 to number of stunning attacks per day

Trait: Equality for All (Andoran): +2 trait to CMB and CMD when facing opponents at least two sizes larger (p30 of Halflings of Golarion)

** spoiler omitted **

We should all make halflings or gnomes.

Dark Archive

This could be a lot of fun. I have a couple of ideas.

One, is a female suli-jann (Qadira book) aristocrat. Pretty, vacuous and the source of all trouble for the group. I've always wanted a good reason to use the trait - Keleshite Princess, and this may be the game for it.

Two, is an orc adept. One who foolishly challenged his clan's shaman and was left for dead. Making the best of a horrible situation, he limps along in a world of adventurers where his skills are always subpar to the task at hand. I would take the Adept Channel feat from Orcs of Golarion for this concept.

All halflings and gnomes? That maybe unoptimized....

Of course gnomes and halfling with an orc sounds like unoptimization as well.....

I like the ideas so far.....

I also always liked the idea of a monk/pally. The VoP fits pretty well. I may even be able to swing it as gnome or halfling, to use Tark's suggestion.

Just slapped myself because I realized that I wasn't really getting into the proper de-optimizing spirit. Therefore I propose that my grappler also does the following:
1) Takes an extra hit to Strength down to 6 (hey, he's poor, not like he needs to carry much)
2) Takes Vow of Peace
3) Takes Vow of Fasting - which means no potions for him
4) Takes Vow of Chains - has shackles on wrists and legs (-1 to attack and AC, reduces movement by 10ft)
5) My 'item of value' is 50ft of hemp rope

@KenderKin - it's got me thinking that Level 1 probably isn't best. If we bump it up to Level 3 then our de-optimized concepts can probably be a little bit better defined. eg. Tark's eidolon can be split up at that stage.

So....CE scary little girl?

My latest idea that intrigued me was an Efreeti Cleric of Fire, with the Fire domain, of course, and their second domain being Ash or Smoke, depending on whether or not they were the type of character that showed at the beginning ("where there's smoke, there's Fire!") or generally ended things ("In my wake I leave ash in the name of the Holy Conflagration")

Development would largely depend on the group and the circumstances.

Hrm.. working with the Halfling or Gnome theme:

The aforementioned cleric could be a Gnome with an unhealthy fascination with fire-- but then again, gnomes and the bleaching...

Or a Halfling Order of the Dragon Cavalier (riding a Wolf), that was happy to find a group of adventurers of similar stature, and decided that they were a fine bunch to travel with.

Hrm.. that Cavalier might be too solid.. How about a halfling Paladin/Ninja? (sneaky in the name of Good!)

Absolutely LOVE the scary little girl.

6) Stack on the Monk of the Lotus archetype

That gives me a small size monk with a Str penalty, no gear, chains on his legs, inability to drink potions, can't take aggressive actions unless attacked, swapping Stunning Fist for Touch of Serenity.

Tactics would be to grapple, then pin, then tie up with rope. Aim to adventure without any ability to deal damage at all.

@TarkXT - I concur with Memori, little girl with rabid teddy bears is cool.

OK I like the ideas,

We can see about some ideas...

SO what do your Characters look like for second level?

I am seeing that several people are taking a "dump" level, which is a fine alternative, did they enter a class they were unsuited for due to tradition/family expectations/ survival/ only available/ low ability score?

[for example a Cha based caster who only has a 10 in Cha is going to go into something else shortly!)

@Mark
Not sure you need a dump level........

No reason for everyone to go gnome or halfling!

Everyone so far how do you see your PC developing?
by classes/levels?

I think my monk would stay a monk from 1 thru 20, just picking up extra feats, etc to help him grapple.

At second level he has a speed of 10ft, and doesn't get his Ki pool yet (that kicks in at 3rd) - so there isn't much he can do apart from follow people around begging them to attack him so he can tie them up.

I have wanted to play a gnome character that like to making constructs. Like little mechanical birds. He would more than likely be a little crazy. The name is MiddlesBe McDougal.

Got an idea for a low DEX & CHA cavalier of the Order of the Cockatrice... would be from a human barbaric culture originally and wields a bastard sword [MW or magic depending on start level] but with the broken quality - his signature weapon... "The Ugly Edge".

At the start of play he'll have just lost his previous steed [tourney or battle gone wrong] and thus all the benefits it provides...

Know these unoptimizers are equipment or follower based tho...

CE scary little girl or halfling with childlike/passforhuman feats

@Vagonda
Alchemist? what class?

Black Dow
I like the ugly edge.....Maybe a dogslicer?

I think we can call it over for recruiting and let people here develop ideas.....

Hrmm.. less power more creativity..

For Progression, the Cleric of Fire would alternate between Cleric and a Wizard of the Fire school, wanting to take Elemental Body I as soon as possible.

Or for contrast, the Cavalier was too solid a concept..

An elemental blooded Sorcerer(Fire) that suddenly finds himself an Oracle of waves. Turn it around, and you have an Oracle of Waves that is beginning to learn that his heritage is not from the ocean as he thought...

Wizard/Rogue

or just Rogue but take the feat that lets a person take magic crafting feats.

In the past I have always been told no by all the DMs. They tell me I can play an NPC Expert on my own time.

He is more or less a toy maker than starts making toys that have special powers.

Well I just need some build guidelines to get started.

Build guidelines!

Ok 25 point buy......

Post the full build as an alias, and then describe to me Convinces me how unoptimized hopelessthe character is.

Also we can start at level 2 since that should work fine and give a better idea of the builds...

For the summoner spliting the big E into itty bitty e's, for others with a dump class, and for a wide range of reasons starting level is going to be 2nd.

Spoiler:

Yes I know I repeated myself

Please try to refrain from stats under 10, unless race takes you down to an 8....but at least try!

Please stay away from the rich parents trait (it smells like optimization!)

Standard wealth (no blowing it all on one purchase, unless it is an unoptimized purchase).....

What about a Hobgoblin Cavalier? ;)

Spoiler:

Yes...

Hobgoblin Characters
Hobgoblins are defined by their class levels—they do not possess racial Hit Dice. All hobgoblins have the following racial traits.

•+2 Dexterity, +2 Constitution: Hobgoblins are fast and hearty.
•Darkvision: Hobgoblins can see in the dark up to 60 feet.
•Sneaky: Hobgoblins gain a +4 racial bonus on Stealth checks.
•Languages: All hobgoblins begin play speaking Common and Goblin. Hobgoblins with high Intelligence scores can choose any of the following bonus languages: Draconic, Dwarven, Infernal, Giant, Orc.

It's not my fault daddy is rich! We come from a very long line of fabulously wealthy people who are also incredibly good looking. Why, daddy was just telling me how beautiful I am this very morning. You're just bitter because you're poor and don't know how good it is to be rich. If your family weren't so lazy, simple and plain, then perhaps you would be good enough to have money, too.

KenderKin wrote:

Oh my god! That is so unfair! That dress perfectly matches my eyes. I had to have it! I know it's more than my allowance, but just look at it!

Man, if this was 3.5 I would have her as a paladin of Wee Jas following the vanity aspect of her portfolio. She would rock as a vain teenage girl purporting to serve law and order as a manifestation of the Ruby Goddess while cringing from unattractive people let alone monsters.

"Salaam and good evening worthy friends" says a plain looking bald halfling with a smile on his face.

This is the monk from Mark. I've refined a little bit in line with KenderKin guidelines:
1) Lowest stat is Strength at 8, everything else is 10+
2) Only Vows are Poverty, Peace, Truth and Fasting. I dropped Chains as a 10ft monk is just a little too much. I might pick it up at level 3...
3) My character doesn't do any damage, cannot fight unless attacked, has no gear, and focuses in a fighting style (grappling) that he takes two penalties in.
4) That being said, he still has 19 AC at 2nd level, and a +6 CMB for grapple attempts (+8 if the target is large)

Does this pass muster o' KenderKin sir?

Edit: filled up my last two possessions. Got a sack and a pair of sandals! LET THE POWERGAMING BEGIN!!

Since you are doing aristocrat as the class, I will throw in the fancy party dress and shoes free of charge, and a trunk for proper storage....

The monk passes muster! Remember to buy gear I like most core apg gear and am fond of a few others....I know six posessions so make them count

Who else?

Sorry for the interruption but...

LOL! This is some great stuff! She looks like a fun character! This one would be absolute fun to run along side with! ;)

:D

Okie dokie. Will have my young lady up sometime friday at latest.

No hurry I expect to work with each person in the creation process...

You could do that with Arshea, and work the "Physical Beauty" Area of Concern, probably better than Shelyn. :D

I've always wanted to play a mystic theurge which is already pretty unoptimized.

My one thought was to do an Oracle/Sorcerer/Mystic Theurge, it helps with the casting stat but delays even longer when you start as a mystic theurge, maybe with a race like Duergar (+2 Constitution, +2 Wisdom, –4 Charisma) or goblin (–2 Strength, +4 Dexterity, –2 Charisma)

Better yet maybe something like an Orc Mystic Theurge (+4 Strength, –2 Intelligence, –2 Wisdom, –2 Charisma ) Druid/Bard maybe? Pretty much any combo takes a hit

Ooh, I wasn't aware of this deity. I think I would like to go with paladin of Arshea in place of aristocrat. There won't be any real changes. She will have a delicate longsword befitting a young lady of class and means as well as her heavy steel shield. The shield will, of course, have a mirror built into the upper portion of the inside to help her maintain her perfectly coiffed hair and to admire her fair complexion while the lower portion will contain the basket to hold, Buttons, her pomeranian guard dog.

I'm keeping the gown, slippers and trunk.

Grand Lodge

how about a kobald gunslinger....

Apologies KenderKin am having to bow out of consideration here - just when I thought the decks were cleared in RL I've had a bunch of marking dumped on me [we're in uni exam mode here in the UK :(]

Will keep an eye on things as Mark and Drayen are fellow players who I'm having a blast with in other pbp games.

Thanks for the consideration tho'

Cheers

Gary

Current Summary:

Aardvark Barbarian – brawler monk

TarkXT – broodmaster summoner

Mark Sweetman – _______________Thedrin the Lotus

Roidrage go with fallen Paladin/rogue

Drayen Alyssa Leithbridge

Me’mori cleric sounds like something needed?

Vongonda how is your concept related to a class. Alchemist? Or something else?

Tangible Delusions try to narrow it down

Roger Gulbert ready to see a kobold gunslinger!

Did I leave anyone out?

As is evident some people are still on concept, others on class, and some have an actual PC.

No worries plenty of time for everyone to finish up!

Click on my profile and read “Us and Them” initiative, and hero points………(although hero points are a pain in the arse on PBP typically if you use one to re-roll, make another post under the bad roll showing the re-roll and use of a hero point, ie do not wait to use a point!).....

I'm out of this as well. While the ideas are good, I feel the focus on 'unoptimized' is making some go out of their way in the competition for spots.

I liked the idea of an "all small" party save for the pretty girl, but this is not quite what I was looking for.. I'll be reading from time to time, though.

*Presents Self*

So, not sure how such a creation would be 'retro fitted' into your game.

The current game for the character appears to have folded, more's the pity.

Awaiting comments etc. *Bows*

Xane, not certain if it is better to build a different character than try to retrofit this one.....

I will leave it up to you!

KenderKin wrote:

*Nods* So, you're starting at First level, right?

I have an idea for 'assuaging' Xane's Giant adjustment, if you will bare with my explanation?

Your opening comment was to,

"Is there a character you have wanted to try that everyone else says bad things about and tells you it is a bad idea?"

=)

*Bows* Much cheers to you and yours.

Starting at second level....

just in case you want a dump level or something like our fallen paladin/rogue!

;)

*Smiles* No, I can have Xane still be her large and Bodacious self, keep the 'Giant' and maybe start simple with Fighter. =)

Also, I have just lost my home computer to a crash, so connectivity for me will be an issue for the near future. I understand about slowing things down, so until I can get a machine back up and running, I don't mind being on the 'back burner'.

*Bows*

Sovereign Court

Hey Kenderkin, should have my character built up later tonight when I get home from work.
