I think it's a juggling act.
My whole group picked up Pathfinder together and we're all learning as we go. Some are more in depth studiers of the Tomes of Rules than others, but we all help out with the honest mistakes and clarifications.
Honestly... Pathfinder is a HARD game to learn.
Outside of the Mayfair DC Heroes game, I think it's the most complicated, rules heavy game I've ever played. When new players have to juggle skills, weapons, BABs, Feats, Spells... and most of them have the same names as older editions... some have new rules with the same names.. .some feats work this way, and others don't stack with that...
it's gonna be hard to be 100% proficient. I've been playing for about a year and half... and I've got a PRETTY good handle on my serpent skull rogue... though each level with new feats it's a learning experience all over again...
the Paladin I'm planning for Kingmaker next?!? I'm starting from scratch. I never saw ANY of these spells and feats before..
Remember if it was EASY to know EVERYTHING that a character could and could NOT do... the board wouldn't be full of 'advice, Rules questiosn, and Optimization guides.'
If the player is new or unfamiliar I probalby would have warned 'Ok that gives him another save...' If he's cast that spell a dozen times already I probably wouldn't have.
