SmiloDan's name gave me an awesome idea.

Suggest to the GM that your character should have a saber-toothed tiger nemesis.

Then, IF you defeat it, one of your companions can dual-wield saber tooths. Saber teeth. Um, big giant fangs.

(DMed for a 2nd edition thief-mage knife thrower that killed a T-Rex and began using T-Rex teeth as throwing knives. Cool > realism!!!)

He said the Saber Teeth Daggers would be cool, since there are bone weapons. I would put some spiritual BS into the way the Tiger died, then that makes the Teeth naturally have Keen. He also smiled at the nemesis idea.

I actually got bit by a dog at work today. I wonder if that means I'm gonna turn into this character lol?

Naaah ... you'll likely have some scars though (based on my bite scars). :D

Probably is gonna scar, only one tooth broke the skin, on the heel of my hand near the base of my thumb. I work at a pet store, and I was trying to fit the little guy (some sort of jack russell mix) for a collar, so I let him lick some peanut butter off my finger to befriend him, then when I went to put the collar on, he turned on me!

Was the thief a ferret?

Make sure you get that dog bite checked out. Especially if it was from a small dog as those are the ones that kill most often. It isn't from the bite itself, but from the infection. I know, I got bit by a dog (I won the fight, btw...) and had to go the hospital and it turned out I had osteomyelitis (bone infection) which required 2 weeks of IV antibiotics and a painful recovery.

Oh, also Nepherti, you should watch this movie for further inspiration.

He was an irda (a high-ogre shapeshifter from Dragonlance) who nearly always assumed a tall, lanky elf form. Long black hair and sad eyes, with a horrible scar from the T-Rex bite forming a giant C along his torso and back.

Osteomyelitis???? Yikes!!!!! I studied that in grad school. Yeesh.

I was actually thinking of this. ;)

Yeah, bone infection is pretty grim. It is the reason I suggest to Nepherti to get it checked out.

Grand Lodge

I still prefer the Princess Mononoke wolves.

I prefer the Brotherhood of the Wolf wolf. To say why would be giving away the movie though.

I've wanted to play an awakened Orang-Utan for quiet a while. I'm thinking a Ninja would fit nicely. ;)

Perfect figure for that...

Scarab Sages

I can't believe no-one's mentioned THIS yet.

Dark Archive

Use the 3rd Edition Savage Species rules to grow up into a Winter Wolf. (Appropriate for tundra and cold places.) You could start as a puppy who hasn't learned Common, but as you spend more time with a human pack you learn their language, so when you finish out the monstrous levels, you'd be able to cast spells. (Or bend the rules, and intersperse monstrous with class levels.)

I know I'm having great fun with that sort of thing. The speech really is a lot of fun, because you can SAY animal-like things, and the mood of the game doesn't sound altogether serious, anyway. (I keep a list of interesting things I have eaten.)

DAngleberry Tagnut: lol, thanx for that. I just may have to pick it up. :)

Snorter: Never heard of that book either. I feel a bit guilty for being interested in it... not sure why.

I would like to second Heera's suggestion of the use of Savage Species progressions. I have yet to have the opportunity to play a Savage character though I do own the book. If memory serves Sean K. Reynolds helped write it.

I think I have a copy of Savage Species somewhere, so the Winter Wolf progression might work well. Probably modify it slightly to fit exactly what I'm doing, and I like the idea of spreading out the Monstrous progression with the class levels.

As for the bite, I've had my tetanus shot, and it's not swollen, just a little bruised around the puncture. Oy, the perils of working in a pet store!

I like the idea of an Arcane Trickster wolf. A dog or wolf would probably have a lot of use for Mage Hand, and would get quite adept at using it for things her humans may not be too thrilled with. (Our dogs certainly always had a sense of humor...)

You'd only get one rogue trick, but you'd get some other nifty things. (This is all assuming your DM is willing to handwave the spellcasting of a creature with no speech and no hands -- maybe allow and require Natural Spell?) If you consider your bite to be a one handed melee weapon, you could go Magus4/Rogue3/AT X. True Strike would pretty much guarantee your trip would work against anything that could be tripped. Everybody'd be thrilled when you finally got haste; your spells would be so delayed, you wouldn't have to worry about third level spells until you were 10th level, and fourth level spells until you were 13th.

It's all pretty rule-bendy, but more cool than powerful, imo.

@Lune Heera is great fun to play, but she's not anywhere close to as effective as the party barbarian. If you use Savage Species to play something with a limited role ("melee monster"), make sure you do it in a game that's not too serious, not too optimized, more roleplay. Preferably a smaller party, so you have room to be useful. I can't speak to the more versatile monsters.

Actually, I would recommend against putting class levels in with the racial progression. The book recommends against this too. I would wait to take class levels until after you are finished taking the racial progression.

When I got bit it punctured my skin and hit (but didn't go through) my tendon sheeth for my left index finger and the top knuckle of that finger. It didn't look like much and didn't even hurt that bad (I have a high pain tolerance though). But just from that I had a bone infection that was spread through my tendon into my finger bone and my left radius bone. The doctors told me that if I hadn't come back into the ER after my first visit that I could have died or had to have my arm amputated.

I'm not trying to scare anyone but the docs also told me that this is fairly common in dog bites but even moreso from smaller dogs as their small teeth get in further and are more prone to infections. Tetanus shots will not protect you from osteomyelitis.

This is what wikipedia has to say:

Quote:

Osteomyelitis often requires prolonged antibiotic therapy, with a course lasting a matter of weeks or months. A PICC line or central venous catheter is often placed for this purpose. Osteomyelitis also may require surgical debridement. Severe cases may lead to the loss of a limb. Initial first-line antibiotic choice is determined by the patient's history and regional differences in common infective organisms. A treatment lasting 42 days is practiced in a number of facilities. Local and sustained availability of drugs have proven to be more effective in achieving prophylactic and therapeutic outcomes.

...

The rabies vaccine does not protect against osteomyelitis, and someone bitten by a dog should seek medical attention regardless whether or not they have had a rabies vaccine. Currently there is no vaccine against osteomyelitis.

Take that for what you will.

I thought of another reason for the wolf to be an inquisitor: The Teamwork feats! They will help you treat the group as a pack, as you'll be able to share them with your friends and stuff.
