Advanced Race Guide Amazon Issue

Paizo General Discussion

I had preordered the Advanced Race Guide from Amazon a couple of months ago and it was just cancelled from Amazon for being unavailable. It's not even listed as being for sale at this point and is instead you have to sign up for an email when it's available. I love ordering Piazo stuff and I live shopping at Amazon, just worried about what's up. Thanks for any info.

The book is already in distribution chains and has been shipped to subscribers (I got mine from Paizo on last Thursday). It has a street date of the 20th (i.e. Wednesday). This just sounds like another Amazon has no idea how to plan for release dates that don't fall exactly on the dates that the make their pickup from book distributors (which IIRC only happens once or twice a month).

Amazon will save you money, but for book pre-orders, you'll get them when they get around to getting the product in realistically.

We're aware of the issue and we're contacting Amazon to get things sorted out. When we have some information, we'll let you know!

3 people marked this as a favorite.

I talked to Amazon customer service about this, and they told me the reason they cancelled my order was because "we don't want our customers to wait".

Because, you know, forcing me to re-order the item later totally gets it into my hands faster.

amazon lists the new release date for july 10. just got off the phone with Amazon it being July 10 and all and the rep says, "oh that's still on preorder". So do they/ are they going to get this book?

People who order from Amazon to save money end up paying the difference in time.

Received mine from Amazon Prime yesterday...so its there, in the US anyway

I certainly can't speak for Amazon, as it's pretty clear that even *they* can't answer this question properly, but I can tell you this:

Paizo set the official release date for ARG as Wednesday, June 20. (The hobby market has Wednesday releases because that has long been the day that new comic books come out.) The book trade prefers Tuesday releases (that's the day that new movies and CDs come out too), and since they also have an extra distribution step*, they usually delay the release by 13 days, so the book trade release date (set by them, not us) would likely have been July 3. I have no idea why Amazon may have added an extra week, and I have no idea why they're telling you it's a preorder when they're clearly already shipping it.

*: Hobby: We ship to hobby distributors who ship directly to retail stores.
Book: We ship to a book distributor, who often sends it to a retail chain's main distro center, who sends it to their own retail stores.

I just canceled my amazon order. they said they were unable to get me a copy? in time.. I have never had a problem with amazon like this before.

Friend of mine has the same problem, Amazon is telling him they will send him an email when it is available. I understand why he went through Amazon, but their wonky release/order issues are delaying some in-game stuff (Table Rule: cannot use books the DM doesn't already own. If you want something from ARG, DM must own that book)

I was in Barnes & Noble today and two copies of the Advanced Races Guide were on the shelf.

I went into my Barnes & Noble to check on the book for a friend... and the lady told me they can't get it or even order it. (Granted... I obviously think she had no idea what she was talking about)

And here I thought this would have something to do with using the Advanced Race Guide to make amazons as a race (or more specifically, a problem with a player who already had). :P

I still like my idea. The next guy from Amazon that says the book is not out yet, I'll email him a pic of me holding the book.
