Just want to make sure I'm clear on this.
I have a character, 4 tables of GM credit to her. I play Dawn of the Scarlet Sun. I've never played my character, but I have to apply the player credit from the module to a brand new character, not to my Schrödinger's character that I've GM credit already on, correct?

When it was put into place, people were playing pregens in modules so they wouldn't risk anything on their normal PC, even death, and then they just apply the Chronicle sheet to the new character with all reward and no risk.
* Brings up Dead Horse
From my perspective, people play Pregens so they can play, not so they can avoid risk.
Yes beat that horse!

I did not fail, I was commenting on the original thoughts not the new ones... ;)

I see. And yes, I agree after watching for the past 6 months. If people want to give up an entire level of play with their own character when they only get 12 to begin with, that is their decision.
Also, someone trying to take advantage of it is easily noticeable by the GM, and he/she could stop it.

slight thread hijack then
Lets just say a player has an 11th level character and a 5th level character (and a few other lower level characters) and this player GMs a 7-11 scenario and gets GM credit for doing so, what are his options for applying the credit? He does not want to apply it to the 11th level character because that character is 2 xp away from retirement and he has no other characters within tier.

@Ryan,
It's my understanding that the GM credit can go anywhere to 'kick in' when that character hits the appropriate level.
Frex: My GM credit for DotSS is going to go to Mayim, my Schrödinger's bard. (I've not played her yet, so her gear and the like is in limbo. She's level 2. When I hit level 4, I get to apply the sheet (and its assorted goodies) to her.
My player credit goes to Blank, the amorphous mass that is occupying slot 5 as a level one quantum flux.

Okay, so we're going through some confusion here with this whole thing, because...
page 4 : “If you play a non 1st-level pregenerated character, you can apply the credit for it to your character as soon
as they reach the level of the pregenerated character played. You may also opt instead to apply the credit from the non 1st-level pregenerated character played
to a newly created character with the GP gained reduced to 500 GP (or 250 for slow advancement track characters). Equipment listed on the pregenerated character sheet may never be sold.”
page 23 : "If you play a pregenerated character, you apply the credit from the pregenerated character played to a newly created character, with the GP gained reduced to 1,398 GP (or 699 for slow advancement track characters)."
page 29 : "If the player is playing a non-1st-level pregenerated character, he may choose instead to apply this Chronicle to a newly created 1st-level character. If this is the case, reduce this value to 500 gp (or 250 gp for the slow advancement track)."
Needless to say VERY confusing. When is 4.2 coming, will it be VERY clear, and what should be done with the chronicle until then?? (And can the answers to these questions PLEASE be posted in the FAQ or elsewhere prominent? The current FAQ says the chronicle remains the same, but doesn't actually address new PC vs other PC, or whether the gp is 500 or 1398/699.)

@Mike
Along those lines *waves at bigwave* I know it violates the 'taking time and resources to do something' rule, but could we see module/scenario sheets (for things like DotSS) have both the actual level block and the first level block? in the upper right hand corner, like we do for tiered scenarios? That also might help dispel confusion.

The only text above that seems out of place (at first glance) is the text on page 23. But what you didn't mention is that the text on page 23 is part of the current rules for playing 3 XP sanctioned modules. This is indicated by it's positioning in Chapter 6: Sanctioned Modules.
Just follow the maxim "Specific trumps General" where Chapter 6 is a specific rule for sanctioned modules and the other text is general rules for playing PFS.

Don, I cut out the rest, it's the page 4 text that's causing the issue. It seems to say you can apply the credit to an already existing character "you can apply the credit for it to your character as soon as they reach the level of the pregenerated character played" or to a new first level character.
Now I've read the site and don't have a life so I can annoy Mike, but most people don't. They hit page 4 and go "Well there's the answer." so they never hit the text on page 29. Thus the perception from page 4 is someone could play Dawn of the Scarlet Sun with an iconic, and apply that sheet (in all its glory) to their currently-third-level-character as soon as he hits 4th level.
Edit: And thanks Mike for seeing if such a thing is possible. :-)

I advise you to look up the rules on potions, as one example, if you really think that even the Core Rulebook has all the contradictory rules in one location...
