I have a ninth-level witch with Improved Familiar and a quasit by his side. I understand the risks of having my spellbook wander into battle, but I chose the quasit for its resilience (my spellbook has fast healing 2!) and I know when to use him and when to hold him back. Unfortunately, the quasit basically does nothing, and I have a feat invested into him. Solution? Time to turn my piles of gold into "equip my quasit."

Anyone have any suggestions for items that would make the little devil (I mean demon) a little more useful? He doesn't currently have UMD, but if he needs it I can get him up to a +9 next time I level up. Right now, he just has an Amulet of Mighty Fists that bestows vicious on him.

Thanks!

Are you allowed to make your own magic items for him?

Dark Archive

Nope, sorry, should have mentioned that this is a Pathfinder Society character.

I'd probably look first for defensive items -- the standard ring of deflection, cloak of resistance, amulet of natural armor. UMD is a very good idea as the he can use wands, which is a huge boost as it frees up your standard actions for your higher powered stuff.

A suit of armor, though make sure he can still fly with its weight, and a reach weapon so he doesn't provoke AoOs by entering an opponent 's space to attack is a good idea.

Usually, though, I'd look for other options than putting him into melee. He has half your hit points, and you have few enough that YOU don't want to be in melee if you can avoid it.

Wands, potions he can fly to your friends with, and give them healing if they're down, readying an action to shoot enemy spell casters with a wand of scorching ray if they try to cast, etc., are all useful things to do.

I think wands of buff spells are best. He can stay invisible, and hence more survivable, while casting them. A wand of summon monster to flank with the party rogue, a wand of haste, a wand of enlarge person for the party fighter... There are a lot of options.

Oh, and a flask of alchemist's fire and some bottles of oil to dump on the head of enemies.

A hand of the Mage to castmagehand at will and, say, whisk dropped enemy weapons out of reach, or pour oil around someone just before the Mage casts fireball... You get the idea.

get it a minature bow or crossbow and let him support the team with shooting at pesky enemies from afar

Your quasit familiar can already polymorph into a wolf.
The scent will be useful.
Bracers of Archery will turn him into an archer.

Grand Lodge

Hat of Disguise, Greater, will turn him into, more or less, another PC, fully capable of wielding weapons.

Thanks for all the suggestions, guys!

How does a tiny suit of armour work? It's:

* half cost (or is it full cost, since the quasit isn't technically a "humanoid"... is humanoid being used as a creature type or to check whether or not it has arms and legs? And if it is half-cost, does that also halve the cost of special materials like mithral?)
* one tenth weight
* half armour bonus

But the quasit isn't proficient with armour. Does it still suffer the normal armour check penalty? Especially if armour is full cost, this all seems to be boiling down to kind of a bad deal, but you're right, I should be buffing his AC as much as possible.

Greater Hat of Disguise is actually hilarious. He doesn't lose anything from that (aside from obvious size-related bonuses to AC, etc.), does he? Even his fly speed?

Buff AC, get him wands and UMD for next level.

Right now, maybe he flies around, invisibly delivering healing potions?

Grand Lodge

Nab some tiny sized demon armor.

It's polymorph so he'll lose his fly speed, natural armor, and natural attacks.

A + 1 mithral chain shirt costs 2100 gold. half that for the quasit because of the size but also half the ac. so is it worth it? I think so.
3 to ac for 1050. yes please. If you are feeling brave with your spellbook, give him a buckler with arrow attraction on it. Not too many dudes in PFS have cold iron or good aligned arrows and are against you. DR and fast healing are awesome. He can also drop it if things go bad.
