Now that the bum's rush is over for 2012 events, what's the word for Wednesday? I understand there's a PFS meeting in the works for the afternoon. Is there a time set (even tentative) for that?

I'd like to run Dawn of the Scarlet Sun. I've got myself and 3 players leaving 3 seats. I'm hoping to start early enough to end in time for the player meeting if that's happening.

I've got an email in to the Indy VO team. Mark had coordinated the action at Scotty's the last couple years. I'm hoping to help that tradition live on...

See you there!
Tom

Grand Lodge 4/5

We were unable to secure a location for a member's meeting this year. It is something I have on my priority list for Gen Con 2013.

Dark Archive 1/5

Is anyone else planning on running anything that day?

Silver Crusade 5/5

I know that Tracy is hard at work, but there is no "official" word on Scotty's yet. I am as of the moment assuming it's going to happen, but you know what they say about counting chickens...

The Indiana Lodge will have some pre-con games, locations and hours still have not made public. Expect an announcment from VC-Tracy VL Michael or I in the future.

How would one go about getting involved in a pre-con game?

I think it's been on Warhorn the past couple of years.

I'm loosely planning on running Rats of Round Mountain 1 & 2 at Scotty's (it's not offered at Gen Con because Mike hates rats). I'm just waiting for official word out of Tracy for the times because I want to schedule it around the VC dinner.

Liberty's Edge 4/5

anyone willing to run fury of the fiend?

Mike

Silver Crusade 5/5

I really don't care what I run. I prefer something I've run before. So, yes, probably I could run that for you. *goes to go check it out*

Liberty's Edge 4/5

Dan Thanks for offering it run. I told Mike Brock somethings come up and I can't make it to GenCon this year.

Patience, my young Padawans! While organizing for Scotty's has been in the works for months, I am still lacking the information I need to plan for games. I do not know what time we can start, what time we need to end, or how much space we will have. And I, unfortunately, have no control over when I will get this information.

That being said, I also want to let everyone know that we will be hosting games at both Scotty's and at a "family-friendly" venue called The Arsenal Game Room in downtown Indianapolis. This venue is just a short drive or a $5-7 cab ride from the convention center area in downtown Indy. This venue is for those people who would rather not game in a loud bar environment.

If you are interested in GMing at either venue, please let me know at TracyPFSIndy@gmail.com. I am keeping a list of GMs, what they want to run, and their availabilities.

For players, I will announce information as it becomes available. You can also keep an eye on the warhorns, which I will update as soon as I possibly can.

At Origins, there were a lot of people gaming at the Hyatt and other hotels. They had a lot of gaming tables and places to roleplay conveniently located besides the hotel bars and restaurants.

Scotty's is ok, but it's very cramped and loud. And there's no place to put maps.

I think if there was a hotel with a gaming area beside a bar/restaurant for 5 tables, I think this would be a good spot to play (or a good alternative if we want too many tables). And if we snagged them early enough in the day, we could have them all night.

I've only been in small hotels in Indy, so I'm not aware if any hotels fit our requirements.

Just something to think about. Only 2+ months to go!

I'll be there in the early afternoon, so I can help with setup and/or play PFS as well.

Our solution to this is the availability of the Arsenal Game Room. We are trying to support local businesses that have supported us. Scotty's has been awesome to us in the past, and the Arsenal approached us about pre-con games. But this might be something to think about for next year, depending on how this year goes.

Any chance someone might want to run the three intro sessions wednesday night? I know its a long night of gaming, but I'm up for it if anyone else is...

For n00b players or existing players who want to start new PC's?

In my case a new player. Or at least new to pathfinder. I signed up for Part 2 on thursday morning thinking that it was a 'Take one of these three to get started' and not a 'you should really run all three, and not just one'

Grand Lodge 4/5 5/55/5 ***

Gotcha. You'll probably have more luck getting a GM to run them for a table of n00bs. Few, if any, GM's want to run for players who already know the scenario, let alone a whole table of them. As we get closer and Tracy has more details for the event, I'm sure we can accommodate your request.

If it helps, I'm guessing I could probably press into service three other new players as well.

We had originally all signed up for a low level session, then I signed up for one part of the intro before I signed up for the others....they weren't interested in the early Thursday sessions (early gaming or opening of the expo....expo won out).

Gotta say I'm excited about Gencon this year. Whhoohhoo! :) 2 months!

I like the Wednesday night gaming sessions too, what a great way to start the week.

Silver Crusade 5/5

I would happily run pt 1 or pt 2. I enjoy both adventures.

Silver Crusade 5/5

I've been talking to Scotty's, and it's looking like Wednesday night might not be a possibility. I think due to last year's experience, they are going to want to cut off games prior to the evening dinner rush. I'll keep you all posted as we finalize game times and tables, but we all might be cabbing it over to the Arsenal Game Room at 5pm.

Shadow Lodge 5/5

Tracy, have you considered talking to any of the slightly further away hotels with conference space? You might be able to run out of the Hilton or something outside of the reach of the GenCon block. Price might be a problem, but if people are spending $5 on cab fare anyway it might be worth looking into.

In my event planning experience through both personal (wedding) and professional events, hotels are usually the opposite of free space. But I'm open to thinking of another walking distance venue. I'm just not sure there's one that is gamer friendly. The local comic store has no space. A lot of people complain about the noise at Scottys, so I'd like an alternate venue to be better for gaming. I'm at a loss.

I can see why Scotty's would want to end gaming before the dinner rush. Last year was a madhouse. I'm just not sure where to go next. I'm open to suggestions that will not make my life harder :)

5/5

Have game, will travel.

Scarab Sages 3/5

I wish Gencon would start a Wednesday open gaming hall. Charge $6 for a table per slot and just let people game.

I'm at the new mega-hotel JW Marriott and they have some nice facilities. The best part is that it's a 10m walk, so it should be relatively non-crowded (you'd think), especially on a Wednesday night.

The High Velocity bar and dining area looks as good or better than Scotty's, and I think it would be a good venue for Wednesday afternoon/night since there's a lot of tables and it would probably be empty of sports fans (there is only some MLB on that date). If we made reservations and we came early enough in the day, I'm sure they'd be happy to give us a few tables. You do have to reserve tables though.
High Velocity

They also have more private rooms for events (Owner's Suite (12 people), Skybox (20 people), End Zone (100 people)), although I'm not sure if it costs extra. It's worth asking though.
Skybox

They have another eating area called the "Tavern on the Plaza", which is absolutely gorgeous and located at the top of the hotel overlooking the city, but there aren't as many tables for gaming.
Tavern on the Plaza

For table reservations (317) 860-6500. It can't hurt to call and ask.

They also have impressive space for events and meetings, although that probably won't be needed and it would probably cost $.

I'm afraid that I'm just not familiar enough with the area to offer a suggestion for where games might be played at. I would think one of the smaller restaurants away from downtown would be good with a group coming in, as long as they were buying as they were playing.

Shadow Lodge 5/5

I wonder how much the artsgarden costs (that dome thing over the intersection Washington and Illinois.

Thousands. It's made for big events like weddings, but you can always call to check.

So I made some phone calls and found out the following information about "High Velocity" (Contemporary, American) and "Tavern on the Plaza" (Italian) which are both located in the JW Marriott.

- They no longer accept table reservations (which is good for us because we can get there early and squat).

- They're open to us playing games at tables as long as we order some foods/drinks.

- The private room (Skybox) has 2 large tables and 3 small tables and seats 20 people. There's no charge to use it, but there is a minimum tab to pay, so as long as everyone eats/drinks something, it's also an option.

- They shouldn't be busy on a Wednesday with no sporting events going on, it should be Gencon only.

- They're open from 11am to 1am.

If Scottie's won't take us, we should consider these beautiful restaurants.

Silver Crusade 5/5

Thanks for making the call, Jason. I am definitely working with Scotty's to have games from 9-5 on the Wednesday before GenCon. I've already told them how many tables I'd like. We've worked with Scotty's for several years. From what I've heard from other VCs and organizers, they've always been good to us. I think that their experience last year during the evening rush has led them to the hours change, and if we are more organized and put on a better event this year, we should be able to have regular hours again next year. I'm not interested in pulling out of this venue for another.

As I've already said, we have games running at The Arsenal Game room as well, and these games will continue after the 5pm cut off at Scotty's.

With about 2 months left to the convention, unless a venue approaches me and tells me that they want to work with me and give me free space, I don't think I'm in any position to try to coordinate three venues that day.

Grand Lodge 4/5 5/55/5 ***

Don't take this to mean that we should stick it to Scotty's or anything, but if you are running a game at a table after 5pm, and everyone orders food, drinks, etc., I don't think they would kick us out. Maybe we cannot reserve the space, but it's still first come, first serve. This is especially true if the patio area out front is available and shaded/illuminated. Being outside would significantly reduce the noise level and would probably be more comfortable space-wise than being cramped in the restaurant anyway. The only question would be any weather (hot, windy, raining, etc) interference. I am still hoping to play/GM at least one slot at Scotty's. It's one of my favorite hang-outs at GenCon.

Just to be clear: this has nothing at all to do with what Tracy is organizing, and I'm given to understand she's not entirely keen on it either, which I understand and I mean no disrespect. I'm not trying to compete with her and poach her players.

By posting this on the Scotty's thread, this is exactly what you're doing. It's both disrespectful and out of order.

I'll be drinking a beer at Scotty's as well... lets play some games! Woo Hoo!

Tracy, I'd be there beside ya if I could, Scotty's was fun last year and I'm going to miss the whole thing this one :/
