Timing of Gen Con Sessions

Probably a dim question but with the 20th around the corner, I thought I'd just check.

Given that each session is 5 hours and they run 08:00 13:00 and 19:00 was wondering what are the logistics of making the 13:00 session if you play in the 08:00.

Is it scheduled to discourage 15 hours of PFS playing?

Travelling 3000 miles odd I want to minimise my chances of making a critical fumble at the booking stage!

Last year I played or GMed PFS every slot. There was only one game that ran long, wrapping up about 15 minutes before the next slot. I still managed to get out and explore the dealer hall. If you've never been to GenCon before, I suggest that you schedule at least one afternoon to explore the Dealer Hall ... it's that big.

Swiftbrook thanks for the info. Not my first trip to Indy (though my first for a number of years) and I am looking forward to the dealers hall very much indeed.

The booking system is different this timethough, is it SOP to create and apply a wish list with multiple options for each time slot and then somehow return any tickets that are surplus to requirements?

Its certainly possible, but the return tickets line is normally about 20 minutes long, and you can only trade them in for generic tickets - so you'd be waiting in line for a good portion of that free time you gain.

I GMed 9 slots last year at Gen Con, and 8 the year before. I was able to end most of my slots between the 4-4.5 hour mark.

The schedule isn't there to discourage 15 hours of playing. It is working within the Gen Con schedule when they lock the PFS gaming hall among other things. Note that the first two slots are the only ones that bump against each other from 0800-1300 and 1300-1800. But the evening slot starts at 1900 so if you finish on time, it gives you an hours before the evening slot to grab dinner and the like.

As Cpt Kirstov mentioned, if you want to exchange tickets for generics, it is a 20 minute or so wait. However, if you just want to refund the tickets, the wait is generally 7-10 minutes. Also, note that I think refunds or exchanges have to be done 15 minutes before an event starts but I could be slightly off on that time.

Like everyone says, there's enough time between games to grab something to eat. Just in case, you should pack 4 powerbars, which are sometimes useful at Gencon when you don't have time to eat.

Regarding the wishlist, you can book multiple events on the same time slot, and the system tries to book you for events in your priority order. If you're already booked for an event during a slot (period of time) it will reject your next request to book an event in that time period.

For example, you could book 4 scenarios for the Thursday AM timeslot, but the system will only allow you to purchase for 1 event and will reject the other requests.

Regarding returning tickets, as long as it's done soon (June 1?) and you contact registration (through email) with your reqest, you can return tickets for the full amount on your credit card. If you return tickets through the online system, you'll get system credit only (which never expires and can be applied to other Gencons). You can also refund your tickets at Gencon for system credit or generics.

Hope this helps.

It surely does. So I can try and improve the odds of my getting the slots I want by having multiple wishes but the system is smart enough to make sure I don't end up with spares. Nice!

Thanks a million
