I used to have problems with players feeling entitled to things in Pathfinder/D&D.

Then I upped the Average CR encounter by 2.

They don't feel entitled anymore.

March: "A party of 17th level characters wouldn't find a huge ancient red dragon anything more than a speedbump. The PCs would just do A, B, and C, and the dragon would be toast."

April: "You're wrong! The dragon would do X, Y, and Z and so it would win!"

May: "What are you talking about? X and Y would never work, and Z is just useless."

Cue the graphics of pages falling off a calendar, spring turning to summer turning to fall, etc.
