Dungeon Generation?

Howdy y'all. Well, a thought has just occurred to me, and I felt like i might as well ask.

How do you all design your dungeons? What process do you use? Where do you get inspiration for your works? Do you generate randomly, or do you build them yourselves, or do you prefer to use APs and such instead.

On a slightly related topic, does anyone know a good dungeon generator for pathfinder?

It's for 3.5 but should work with PF quite fine.

NY Times crossword puzzles.

I usually start with an idea ( a riddle, a monster I want to use, severe urges to punish my players). Since I do that, I just design them myself and try to make them different (I have a book of graph paper for dungeon designing). If it's a single gimmick, I plan on making the dungeon small. If it's a theme, I just piddle around with the design so I get it all in. It takes about 4 hours, but my players are always pleased with the results.

...If I suffer from brainlock, I just play Legend of Grimrock. Heh...it rhymed.

Personally, I go through old published adventures from 3.0/3.5 to find ones that have an interesting map and then rebuild the description and encounters to fit the campaign. I have even been known to use maps and plot hooks from adventures published for very different systems (such as the Pathfinder campaign I once ran where I used converted Dark Heresy adventures about 75% of the time).

As for a generator, the Pathfinder GameMastery Guide has a dozen or so pages on dungeon design (including charts to roll on to help generate things like type of dungeon, unique attributes of the dungeon, or what room they find), but I don't think that section is in the PRD so you would need to buy the book or PDF. I haven't actually used it, but it looks pretty useful.

You want a Dungeon and need a Generator? I scanned a graph paper page and saved it as a JPEG. I simply open it in MS Paint and draw lines and fill in areas and using the standard image list of symbols draw a dungeon using draw. Easy as that.
