This is one perception check I would not want to fail.

The 20-pound spiked boulder was rigged to swing at head-level with just a trip of a thin wire — a military-like booby trap set on a popular Utah canyon trail.

Look at the spikes on that thing!

I'd kinda like to hear what the suspects have to say for themselves.

OH. So that's where i left tha.. erm...I mean that's the sort of thing you usually only see when someone's growing pot nearby.

Shadow Lodge

Darn Vampire LARPers. Always going for realism.

Scarab Sages

Holy crapcakes on fire. The dudes who set that are seriously f+@@ed in the head.

Liberty's Edge RPG Superstar 2015 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2013 Top 16

Pshaw. CR 1 tops.

Spiky Ball.

XP 400

Type mechanical; Perception DC 20; Disable Device DC 15

EFFECTS Trigger touch; Reset manual

Effect Atk +15 melee (2d6).

U.S. Forest Service Officer James Schoeffler... Having had previous military hazardous device detection training, Schoeffler immediately knew it was a threat.... the booby traps could have been overlooked by everyone except a military-trained officer like Schoeffler... he disabled the traps after taking photos and video of the site.

And Disable Device isn't even a ranger class skill!

Quote:
Two men arrested over the weekend on suspicion of misdemeanor reckless endangerment told authorities the traps were intended for wildlife, but investigators don't believe the story.

Third paragraph.

Military-trained (Trait): Character gains +1 trait bonus to Disable Devices and Perception checks. One of this skills becomes class skill.

I guess what I meant was that I'd like to hang out with them years from now in a bar and find out why they really put it up.

Hopefully, you'll have to wait until they get out of prison.

I'm guessing the real answer isn't nearly as interesting as you think it might be.

Uh-huh-huh-huh....hey, Beavis. You know what would be cool? If we put up a bunch of traps and stuff, and caught some dudes in them. Uh-huh-huh-huh-huh...

Here's another RL perception check. Unfortunately cell phone use adds a -5 modifier to your perception and she failed.

Luckily for her it was a 19ft fall so she only took 1d6 damage from the fall.

I'm pretty sure the DC for that one is high enough that you'll want a dwarf along.

Yeah. I'm looking for that one in the video and not seeing anything ahead of time except the whole area being discolored.

Is that a sink hole eating away at the sidewalk or what?

21 more feet and she might have been crippled for life.

TEXTING applies a -20 circumstance penalty to Perception checks.

Damn, that poor kid was lucky. Looks like the sidewalk collapsed right under her feet.

Higher than that, I think. There's this story from a couple of years ago, and if I remember the original report correctly, she was walking with a friend. (+2 Aid another bonus.)
