Playing as a monster

Advice

Hey folks. First time writing up on here, and haven't really done to much with the Paizo site in general.
Never really had issues with creating a character before, but what I have planned for a backup character, I need some external help with.

So, right now, I'm playing in a module campaign. We're all currently level 4 running on a 25 point build. Everyone is playing custom races, but what it comes down to is basically three humans, an elf, and two gnomes. I like to be prepared for when a character dies, and try and set up one or two characters for backup options.
My issue is that one of the backup characters I wanted to play as was a dragon. Since I haven't been able to find strict racial rules for dragon, this proves difficult. I don't want to overpower and out balance the party, nor do I really want to take levels in other classes that wouldn't make sense. I also want to try and cause as little grief for my GM as possible.
So, how do I go about actually rolling a pure dragon character (with stats) in a 4th level party, and how do I level it up?
If someone already knows of a thread similar to this, or someone made some fancy guide online, I'd really appreciate a link. All I've found have been Paizo rules for playing PC monsters, and those didn't really fit what I wanted to do.

Well one way is advancing with HD but I think that puts you a bit off on ppiwer compared to others but that's an option. Discussing this with your GM Is also important so look into that as well.

Grand Lodge

I don't recall the exact article, and it was 3.5, but Dragon magazine had a 1-20 progression for a Chromatic and Metallic true dragons. I'll try to find the issues to give you the numbers and if you can track them down they should very easily translate to Pathfinder.

Kinda makes the RP aspect a bit of a nightmare doesn't it? How would you work around that with your DM?

Actually, it would work perfectly with the setting we're playing in as long as I start off as a wyrmling.

Dark Archive

Check out down under conversions a guy named Zerzix is doing a fantastic job on a "Savage Spcies" of pathfinder called Bestiary Levels. he has the majority of Dragons broken down by level.

Bestiary Levels

his newest updated link is about a 1/3 way down the page.

Liberty's Edge

I built the following for my friend's campaign. It is based off of the Dragonborn race that appears in 4th edition D&D. I created it using the playtest rules for the Advanced Race Guide.

Dragonborn race for Pathfinder (based heavily on the version published for 4th Edition) 1st attempt:

Humanoid (reptillian) 0 RP
Size
Medium 0 RP
Base Speed
Normal 0 RP
Ability Score Modifiers
Standard (+2 Str, -2 Int, +2 Cha) 0 RP
Languages
Standard 1 RP
--------Common and Draconic for free (seven others available with higher Int.)
Racial Abilities
Breath Weapon 4 RP
--------Gain a 30' cone/60' line breath weapon usable 1/day that deals 1d6 energy damage (chosen at character creation) per 2 hit dice possessed (Minimum 1). Save DC = 10 + 1/2 hit dice + Con modifier.
Fearless 1 RP
--------+2 racial bonus on all saving throws against fear.
Skill Bonus (Intimidate) 2 RP
--------+2 racial bonus on intimidate checks
Energy Resistance 1 RP

Thank you so much! This helps tremendously!

And thank you, Zerzix as well! Well, I suppose you deserve quite a bit of thanks for making it!
