So I kinda need help with something...there is a step I have been avoiding for reasons I won't get to here...but I need to find a trans friendly therapist. So what are some the ways to look?

While trans-friendly (and LGBTIQ-friendly) therapists are a good place to start, if you have the option, you may want to focus on those therapists who specialize in helping trans patients. They'll be more familiar with the unique issues/goals you'll be facing (social, medical, governmental, etc.), and which local medical professionals & resources are good & supportive (and those to avoid).

I don't know how up to date it is, but here's Dr. Becky's list (scroll down for NJ).

Here's a couple threads from the Therapy subforum at Susan's Place: Listing of Online Gender Therapists and (Therapist) Red Flags.

There's a search/list of LGBTQ Friendly therapists in New Jersey at Psychology Today.

You might contact some of the PFLAG groups near you and see if they know of any LGBTIQ friendly therapists (as well as therapists to avoid).

Hope your search is productive. :)

Edit: As an FYI, Costo's mail-order and in-store pharmacies do not require a Costco membership. They are often less expensive (but do shop around).

My grandma passed away last night. It was known long in advance and she had plenty of time to get her affairs in order, and we got closure in advance, but it’s still hard.

May the lessons you learned from your Grandmother's life pass on or pass on with you, as befits your path.

May the hardships and heartache ease in time.

Condolences.

Sorry to hear that Vixie.
There's always some part of death that is a loss, no matter what your other feelings.

Thank you, everyone. My dad’s offering to pay for us to come up, so we’re gonna be able to make the funeral most likely.

There’s foodtruck here Wednesday to Friday. All their stuff is good but those eggrolls are so yummy.

Last night I spent a few hours with Owen Stephens, his wife LJ, Stan!, Alex Augunas, Perram (from Know Direction) and a bunch of others for a pre-Paizocon gathering at AFK Tavern in Everett. I spent the time as myself. Everyone was incredibly wonderful. They all used the correct name and pronouns. There was even someone I knew from another game tavern who recognized my face and had no problems at all using the proper names and pronoun.

I had spent the day at the VA speaking with someone about my journey as a trans person. It was our first meeting. She is going to be wonderful at helping me navigate all of this. I presented as myself. I only had one dirty look from one of the employees, but that was the only negative interaction.

And, this may seem like something minor, I used the women's restroom without an escort. I usually feel like I might be intimidating because of my size so I like to make sure that the other women feel safe when I go in. I had to pee really bad and I figured that I might as well go for it.

Anyway, I had a wonderful and productive day!

That's awesome to hear Cindy, glad you're having a great time ^w^

It looks like a reasonably fun article, though I don't really know most of the characters it talks about. Also, just as heads-up to folks who click through, at least one of the article's images is actually hosted on an unpleasant "gender critical" subreddit (read: TERF-y).

Thanks for that warning Qunnessaa. i didn't realize that.

No worries, I wouldn't have either, except one of the images particularly caught my eye and I thought I'd see what it was all about, and it wasn't hosted at a very happy place at all, compared to the Mashable listicle. (And now the snooty elven bard in me is wincing at those last two words springing from my keyboard. "Oh, that it should come to this!" - if anyone's seen the classic Stratford production of Iolanthe. :) )

I've been using the VA for my mental health care for a while now and I just started seeing someone to help me with transgender issues. She is going to have me see an endocrinologist to discuss HRT. As of today, I have an official diagnosis of gender dysphoria. My coordinator thinks that it's possible to link my depression, anxiety, and panic disorder to my service because I served prior to Don't Ask, Don't Tell and at the height of the AIDS scare. He thinks that things got worse because I was unable to seek help because it would have meant the end of my career.

I know it sounds weird to be happy to have that diagnosis, but I think it's awesome because that means that I can progress down the appropriate path, whatever that may be, with proper care.

Well then I’m happy you are now able to progress ^w^

Dear Cindy,

While I'm not obviously having gender identity or sexuality problems, I too feel a measure of completeness when I get a diagnosis that fits. IE before I've had numerous diagnoses about some of my behavior and possible neurological impairment. It wasn't until I was 29 that I was finally diagnosed with Asperger's. So for you Cindy, I feel you.

acts completely normal and not suspicious

Is that a goatee? Mirror universe native confirmed.

Pathfinder Starfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

We can test that, Paul.

Freehold, do you feel Joss Whedon is better than a winter snowstorm?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Wei Ji,

I don't think that's an accurate test since even evil Freehold would probably dislike Joss Whedon.

Hmmmm.

What would you propose instead?
