Our tale begins here, in the quiet fishing village of Easthaven. One of the so-called "Ten Towns" of Icewind Dale, the tiny community is hardly a town, but rather a collection of ramshackle huts crowded together upon the key shores of Lac Dinneshere. Here within a dimly lit tavern, a group of travelers sit huddled around a table, swapping tales and making grand plans for the future, completely unaware of the part they are to play in the events that are about to unfold.

Anders is a behemoth of a man. Clearly a barbarian of the surrounding area, he is comfortable in this more civilized setting, but he is dressed for the froxen tundra outside.

"Well, this is a quiet little place, anyone up for a little jig?" the Tiefling speaks mischievously but in a soft voice.

The people of Easthaven are a hardy folk built more to survive then for precious valuables. Their purses combine probably would not total more than a couple of silver pieces.

You could be travelers or your could be residents, the choice is up to you.

A middle aged man in some fairly exotic skins and well polished armor walks over to the table.

The man approaches the tables What's this? New face in town, eh? Well met, stranger. The name is Hrothgar, originally of Hillsfar, but now, after years of travelling up, down, and under Faerun, I am content to call this my town my home. Who might you be?

Well then, welcome to Easthaven. Whatever your business in these parts might be, I would offer you this small piece of advice: While you're in my town, you'd do well to be on your best behavior. These folk are under my protection, and anyone who would seek to do harm to them in any way shall answer to me.

That said, I'll let you get back to your cups. I'm sure you've had a long journey, and you'll find there's no better way to shake off the cold of the road than by downing a few mugs of Grisella's best. And if you're in need of lodging, I would recommend talk to Quinby over at the Snowdrift Inn, over on the east side of town. Equipment and supplies can be purchased next door at Pomab's Emporium. Pomab's prices are a bit high- even for a Calishite, butyou'd be better off well-equipped and short of coin than the other way around. Ill-prepared travelers don't last long in these parts.

Once you've had a chance to rest up and get your bearings, come by and see me at my house. It's just a couple doors west f here. There's some business I would discuss with you. Farewell.

Heading into Pomab's Emporium you a greeted rather coldly by a Calashite man who says, What is this? More barbarians in my shop? No doubt with nothing to barter but more wolf pelts and polished stones. Very well...let us get this over with, what do you want?

Ok, there are no rules for cold weather gear but let's say it gives you advantage on saving throws due to extreme cold weather conditions. This will not extend to magic.

Staggering into the store, The Dwarf pauses a moment to shake the cold off. Peeling back the hood of his bear-skin greatcloak and begins looking around at the various goods. turning to the proprietor, he says "What teas do you sell here?"

After tossing 3GP on the counter, Anders grunts and gathers up an armful of cold weather gear.he proceeds to don the goods right there in the shop before heading to the door.

I'll be waitin' out front for our trip to see Hrothgar at his house.

With a smile and a nod Allrianne hands over the coin and wraps the warm cloak around herself and dons the sturdy high boots, before heading after Anders.

You enter into Hrothgar's home which looks like nothing the rest of the ten towns have. It is filled with opulence and rare animal skins, possibly even magic items. The rug alone looks like it could be sold to feed the town for a year.

Well met, friends. And welcome to my home. Make yourselves comfortable, but try not to break anything. Many of these curiosities that you see lying about have...sentimental value.

With an amused smile, Grimn replies to Anders "Oh, I am not bear. I am bear's speaker. I merely relay requests to him, and he determines whether or not such requests are valid."

I have called you here because I am planning an expedition of sorts. This region is still untamed and fraught with many dangers. I've had plenty of opportunities in the last few years to take up my sword and shield and do battle with those who threaten the safety of Easthaven and it's neighbors. In fact, I'm planning such an expedition right now. That is what I wanted to speak to you about.

We've received word from Kuldahar, our neighbors to the south, that evil forces are stirring nearby in the Spine of the World Mountains. I am organizing and leading a party from Easthaven south to Kuldahar Valley to investigate. You look to be capable enough, perhaps you would like to join us. What say you?

What is the history of the area? Also what is the forces of evil in this part of the world? Gix asked with passion in his voice. He would love to kill things but only if they are evil.

With that, Grimn turns to his left and begins a "conversation" with what appears to be the air, which consists of a series of whines and grunts. This goes on for several minutes before he turns back to your group and says "Bear has agreed to send me to assist you."

Anders simply rolls his eyes at the dwarf.
