Since you mentioned looking at stores to start PFS in, Lansing has several really nice stores, and AFAIK none of them currently have a regular PFS going.
21st Century Comics right across from MSU's campus.
Evolution Games has a ton of space, though mostly used for miniature games I think. Also has a coffee shop attached to it.
Clem's Comics & Games has the most Pathfinder merchandise of the three, and is downtown Lansing.
EDIT: Forgot about one, The Fortress. Can't find a website, a few blocks from 21st Century.

I think there are a couple in St Johns too, although the one I think just does wargaming. Norm's Hobby used to be there but I'm not sure if it's still around. Norm is a pretty decent guy and a die hard gamer so I'm sure he'd be down for doing PFS. 21 Century is a wonderful store that usually has a pretty good sized crowd in it, so if you're looking to get things going in East Lansing that's a great place to start.
I don't know if you've been in contact with anyone in Grand Rapids, but Whitecap Comics right off of Lake Michigan Dr used to run PFS. I haven't heard from the lady that ran things there in a long time, so I'm not sure if they still do it or if someone else is in charge of it.
There is a place on Plainfield called Skynet Gaming, but I haven't been there yet so there isn't much I can tell you about it.
North of Grand Rapids two new stores just opened up; Excelsior in Greenville and Alpha and Omega Coffeehouse and Games in Cedar Springs. If you want next time I'm in town I can pop in and do a little poking to see if either of them are up for some PFS. I do know that both stores stock Paizo books and both had decent sized crowds in them, so might not be a bad idea.

Sadly, Norm moved the store to Owosso. I've been to the new store, and he definitely seems to be doing better business there. There's apparently a huge Hero Clix group there that have been buying him out of stock. :)
Last summer I had talked to him about our group running PFS in his store, and he sounded willing. Unfortunately our group's schedule changed, and we weren't able to, and the last time I talked about it he didn't seem that interested. Of course I think he was already working on moving the store at the time.

Well I'm glad he's doing good. He's always been a heck of a nice guy that's always treated customers right. I heard that he was considering moving shop back to Mt Pleasant, and kind of got my hopes up, but I guess that's not to be. I've been a game store nomad since Level 20 went the way of the dodo and kind of miss having a place to hang my hat.

Evolution Games still has events listed on the events page. I'll check it out to see if they're actually still running anything or not. I still have the goal of finding a VL in Lansing, and Detroit. If you know someone coordinating in those areas extensively, let me know.

I will be moving a lot of this information over to the MichiganPFS.org site, soon. If you have a public location or game day that is upcoming. I encourage you to advertise on there. There are some sessions already up as an example. The goal of course is to consolidate the info to one location, and make us all aware of each other.

I am actively working with the owners of Excelsior Games and Comics in Greenville. Hoping to start PFS play on Sundays in late June. Kelly Roach, owner of Alpha Omega in Cedar Springs, is interested in PFS, not sure if she has GMs to run it for her or not or how familiar her player base is with Pathfinder in general. I will see her Wed and can find out.

1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Area: Fenton/Holly (15 Min South of Flint)
Players: 3 regulars, 3 semi-regular, 1/2 of a GM
Primary play location: BC Comix in Fenton Mi
Game Shops: BC Comix, Gamer's Sanctuary in Flint, Mi.
I say 1/2 a GM because I have only run a couple scenarios and I am not a good GM. I know the info, but I'm just not a good story teller. I miss Doug Miles. Hands down the best Pathfinder GM I have ever had the pleasure of playing with.

Area: Fowlerville (30 mins east of Lansing, 50'ish west of Detroit)
Players: good lord - let's just say several
DMs: 5
AP tables: 2, with a 3rd starting soon
PFS tables: 3, with a 4th starting soon
Primary play location: Game Links (downtown)
We now have PFS every Monday and every other Tuesday; we also have AP tables every other Sunday and the off-PFS Tuesdays.
It sounds convoluted, but it's how we make the schedule work. I have a couple other folks working towards running games but they're not sure about ability or how often they can run a table.

There was one player that I knew of from Port Huron, but he was last active 3 years ago. Beyond that there was another player who tried getting a game going at Mike's Comics in New Baltimore, and another group I ran through six sessions in Lapeer (they fell apart). You're kind of in a dead zone up there, sorry. I'll e-mail the other Port Huron player and see what he's up to.

Tyler,
I heard back from the Port Huron player I wrote about. He mentioned the best hang-out to locate fellow RPG players is Cool City Games on Huron Ave. Thursday nights are when they have open gaming for RPGs. If you PM me with your email address, he gave me permission to share his contact info with you.
