Question about Researching a spell (Dying for Opinions)

Homebrew and House Rules

Our group uses 3.5 material with Pathfinder I'm sure like a lot of groups. I just need suggestions about Researching this Spell for a Paladin, and if anyone would allow it.

Name Whirling Blade
School Transmutation
Level Brd 2, HB 2, Sor/Wiz 2, Wmg 2
Sources Complete Arcane on page 129, Spell Compendium on page 238
Short Description
Make an attack on a line of foes with your slashing weapon.

I was thinking about raising the spell level to 3 or 4, but if you would leave it at level 2 please say so. Thank you everyone

Edit: I should of asked would you allow a player to research this spell in there game on top of that.

I would allow it. I don't know what level I would use though. I would have to compare it to other paladin spells to determine that.

As a 2nd level spell, it would be available to a 7th level Paladin, who will also potentially have access to Vital Strike, as well as Power Attack and Smite Evil, allowing for some decent damage to that line of foes. In the hands of a Bard, Sorcerer, Wizard or Warmage, it's based off of a generally less sexy melee attack potential, so bumping to 3rd level (limiting it to 10th+ Paladins could be warranted).

The 60 ft. line is pretty decent (although lines are situational, depending on how many enemies have conveniently lined up for your reaping pleasure), and the Int/Cha mod replacing Str mod for attack and damage could be good for Paladins who haven't skimped on their Cha scores (and limit the effectiveness of the tactic for Paladins who have maxed out their Str score, which won't benefit this particular tactic).

I agree that it should be raised to level 3 for Paladins. It's a good spell.

Yes. I would allow it.

Vital Strike requires you to make an attack action and Casting the Spell and throwing the weapon requires a standard action since throwing the weapon would be part of the casting.

Smite Evil is a swift action so you could smite evil one person and than do the spell or take a few rounds to get everyone who is in the line and hope they stay in line when you are ready to cast.

Power attack is true it would be in there.
