Rules Questions

hello i have some question:
Vital strike is an attack action, so i can do an vital strike as Attack of Opportunity?
trip can be done "in place of a melee attack" so if i have enough bab i can make trip and all other rest of attack in the same round?

No, vital strike is sadly, a standard action. It can't be combined with anything.

Yes, you can do a trip, then finish out your attacks if you take a full attack action.

ok, vital strike it seems not much convenient to me
about trip (and disarm and sunder) can they be done as attack of opportunity?

Liberty's Edge

So long as they say in place of an attack, yes.

Note, though, that you can't use the attack of opportunity provided by a creature gaining his feet to trip him (as technically the AoO comes before the action that provokes it).

And yes, unfortunately vital strike is pretty useless.

1 person marked this as FAQ candidate.

You can trip and disarm as attacks of opportunity, because both those manoeuvres specify that you my use them in place of any melee attack. The text of sunder says that it must be used as part of an attack action (which is a standard action which consists of a single attack), so technically you could not use sunder as an attack of opportunity. It is possible that the phrasing "as part of an attack action" may be a misprint as some people have asserted, but I am not sure.

Have to argue. Vital strike provides the same damage potential as your full iterative attack (@ the level you qualify for it) using your highest attack bonus. It isn't as flexible as your full-round iterative attack sequence, granted, but it has the potential to increase your DPR against a heavily armored (quick, tough, whatever -- high AC) opponent.

Is it the perfect feat for all seasons? No, it does have a limited application.

But useless? I disagree.

If you don't have strength bonuses, specialization, weapon training or a magical weapon, sure. If you have that, however, vital strike provides far less damage than your iterative attack.

my pc is a warrior, vital strike not help me, in fact it works with combat reflesx and combat manouver, so if there are feat to increase damage on single aoo without renounce to action is welcome.
