Losing your job sucks!

Yeah, whatever, it's a shameless plug for sympathy. What are you gonna do about it?

- Go to the gym more often. :)

- Join a church meditation group.

- Re-evaluate your life and what you want.

- Move to a new city.

- Practice interviewing.

- Study some books.

I am sorry to hear that, Last Knight. I hope that you find another job soon.

I'd also suggest volunteering to that list, too. Assuming you can't find a new job immediately, it will give you a sense of purpose and is something you can put on your resume.

Best of luck to you! I was just recently laid off myself, but luckily found a new job a month ago.

It absolutely does! I've been laid off quite a few times myself, and it always sucks.

Best I can offer is, things aren't booming, but they're better than they were! And now's the best time to jump right in - it's going to be easier to get something now rather than later.

Talk with your friends and support system, get as pumped up and confident as you can - you'll need it to project strength as you look for a new place. :)

It sucks, but hopefully it will lead to something even better for you. :)

Nothing wrong with asking for sympathy, buddy. We got your back!

Sovereign Court

Yeah, After 26 years the company is shutting down. So much for small business in America.

Ouch! I am sorry to hear that lastknightleft. I hate to ask, but what do / did you do?

LinkedIn needs to be your new best friend. Social networking is where it's at to get a job these days.

Yeah, lost my job last month. Still looking for a new one.

Shadow Lodge

I hear you. I'm going to be laid off in a month's time, as well. But Jess Door is right, there are more opportunities out there than in recent years. Connect to everyone you know, look around at the websites to companies you would want to work for, and above all, believe in yourself and your worth to others.

I've got a couple of interviews at other companies in the works already, and recruiters have been talking. So keep it up.

(Incidentally, I've had the bad economy kill gaming groups, too. No fun whatsoever.)

Oh that happened to me two years ago. Yeah, I'm gonna be alright, luckily my church taught financial peace, so I have an 6-8 month emergency fund that combined with unemployment and refinancing my house [my mortgage is now cheaper than the rent on a 2 bedroom apartment Woot (well at least a nice 2 bedroom in a decent neighborhood)] I will be able to get by. What really gets me is that my dad is loosing his business (that is only 3 years younger than I am).

Oh and I was the parts manager for a small aircraft repair facility, I handled shipping and receiving of all parts, updating aviation tracking programs, and building and maintaining the computer database for tracking inventory.

Silver Crusade

I hear ya. My contract here may or may not end today. No one seems sure...so I can certainly sympathise!

I expect to go home, sleep, read, exercise. You know, do all that stuff I wanted to do when I was commuting for three hours per day, working at least eight hours per day, and basically living my life as a corporate sleep-deprived worker bee.

(In all fairness, I like bees.)

Happened to my stepdad, too. His bosses were in some sort of illegal stuff, and when it was found out corporate dismissed everybody who was working under them.

If you've been around small aircraft, I think Mrs. Gersen's employer, Universal Weather and Aviation is hiring, if you don't mind relocation to Houston. They coordinate routing, refueling, permitting, and other support for private aviation, and are always on the lookout for people who know anything about planes.

Sorry to hear it lastknightleft, best of luck in the upcoming job hunt or whatever it is that you decide to pursue next.

I have been unemployed for about two years now. I have some substitute teaching work here and there, but nothing regular. I am studying for a history degree during the lull.

Start a blog, I did, hasn't paid off monetarily, but contacts are cool.

Been unemployed since April Fools last year...I have some freelance stuff I've been doing, but it's been ROUGH. Luckily I have my blog to keep my mind off it. There's just not much work in the Architectural Field in San Diego, and us drafters are getting replaced by Licensed Architects working for a drafters wage. Feel sorry for me, come by my blog enjoy the content, and click some ads or buy something from DriveThru RPG using my affiliate link ;)

Also any feedback would be AWESOME!

Liberty's Edge

Been unemployed since September, after being laid off from two jobs over the course of three months. Visited 300+ businesses in three different towns, was only given ten applications, got one callback, and didn't get the job. Still looking.

Twenty five months now. Went back to college the past year and slowly have been drumming up some random interviews in the past six weeks. Had two skill assessments from separate employers in the past several days and got another lined up.

The discouraging thing is that sometimes I'm informed how many applied ... and it can be anywhere from 132 to 326 people vying for the same position(s). Urgh.

Unemployment does suck, but to put things in perspective, here's a hummable quote from Stephen Patrick Morrissey: I was looking for a job/And then I found a job/And heaven knows I'm miserable now.

It could be alot worse. place I worked some how sold out their 3 west coast locations and the contract is such a mess that no one know who is responsible for the employees and their back pay.

But then again,If i was smart I would have quit when the main office didn't know we didn't have a Manager,Just a Supervisor who was untrained, because their online training needs a manager sign in to start it!

How are you holding up?

I have a masters degree and I work as a teller at a bank. Don't get me wrong I'm grateful to have a job at all, but being grotesquely underemployed is irritating at best.

Pretty well actually, I have lots of charity work (I was already involved in a lot of that, and house work, I've got savings and unemployment so I'm not in the shape some of the employees are in.

Silver Crusade

Always a good thing to have some savings and unemployment! An arsenal of cheap recipes and frugal ideas also fabulous to have at one's fingertips. :D

(They extended me through May, which is interesting. Then we had a HUGE meeting about how the merger will create one big IT department.)

Sorry to hear that. I suggest if you live in Ohio, you might want to consider moving.
