Extradimensional Storage

Pathfinder Online

Bags!

No, I'm not cursing. I was just curious how the bag situation is going to play out. I imagine you would begin play with a backpack (mundane) and maybe the ability to attach a number (3-4) belt pouches to your person. Casters would probably use one of those slots for a material component pouch. I like what I've heard about encumbrance playing a role in how much you can cart around, but what about extradimensional storage?

Could I have a glove of storing that allows me to activate an at-will magical effect (with a 6 second cool down) to stow or produce a single handheld item (like a weapon, wand, or shield)? Could I get a handy haversack that would allow me to haul items without worrying too much about encumbrance? Could my belt pouches be upgraded to bags of holding? Could they be upgraded to a bag of tricks?

Okay, that last one is probably its own thread, but I really would like to know.

I hope these, if even possible, are rare and very expensive to make.

True but either way I have a feeling smart people aren't going to carry more than they need. On death you lose all carried items unless you get to your corpse before anyone else. So in more cases then not, I would imagine you want to drop off what you are carrying as often as possible.

I'm of a similar mind to Onishi, make it moderately expensive to produce, and then it's up to the player to take the risk. I mean, sure, stealthily traveling alone with a thousand pieces of mithril ore could be incredibly lucrative, or you could watch a week of work disappear to a pack of Worgs.

The choice is yours.

On the other hand, an entire charter out roaming and collecting resources together would warrant carrying as much as you can.

Can you say Secret Chest? ;-)

If anything is going to be safe from Worgs and the like, surely it's any object placed in extradimensional storage? Actually, this ties in to the thread on keeping your valuables safe from the envious - perhaps the ultimately safe (and very expensive) form of storage could be extradimensional?

Well if we are talking storage that is permanantly safe and portable, then I absolutely oppose it. I also am failing to see how extradimensional space is supposed to be safe. There is absolutely nothing to prevent someone other than the intended owner from opening a bag of holding or a haversack. Secrete chest I would say should just be left out altogether, unless you make the chest stationary.

Isn't the Secret Chest left somewhere on the Ethereal Plane? How about some people launching expeditions there to try and find some Secret Chests that paranoid mages have left there? That'd be one hell of an adventure. Ditto with other extradimensional spaces; they still exist somewhere out there in the planes. I could totally imagine some planar wanderers stumbling across a Bag of Holding's contents in some demiplane somewhere. Or, maybe there's a Plane of Holding, which all Bags of Holding and the like connect to? Lots of options. Still, I'm getting into the tabletop Pathfinder; back to PFO:

I'm all for portable extradimensional storage; just make it expensive, small, or both. Realize that unless it's left on the husk on death, all players will have Bags of Holding eventually, so plan for that. Come to think of it, why not have Bags of Holding to carry more stuff, but then leave them on the husk on death? After all, they're still just an item, and since it's not equipment, I don't see why you should keep it on death. That'd be a treasure trove if someone gets to your husk first: A bag of holding! Who knows what riches are in it!

As for other extradimensional storage, I don't see a problem. Portable Hole and Handy Haversack: See Bag of Holding; you still can only carry so much in it, and it would be left on the husk on death. Glove of Storage? That you would keep on death, but it can only hold one item; not too game-breaking.

I like the extra D storage items I think they should be just as hard to make and find in a normal PNP game.
As for keeping them after death Shrug the price you pay to live in danger I would like to keep the Bags and Items after death but can find no logical reason such treasure would be left behind.
Maybe you could "Trap" the containers Arcane Lock, Fire Trap, the clerical Ward spells, Explosive Runes, something to put a Sting in on thieves and murderers Perhaps you could track you stolen items and ambush your previous killer? Arcane Marked Items and so forth.

Onishi, I see where the difference is here. I come from a CRPG and MMO background, and have no experience of D&D other than as reflected in CRPGs; so to me "extradimensional storage" sounds like something really extraordinary and magical, whereas it's obvious that for you D&D folks, things like "Bags of Holding" are routine (if probably quite hard to find!). Live and learn...

But I would agree that anything actually carried on the person becomes fair game after death. Perhaps, though, finding and collecting any form of "extradimensional storage" should require some additional skill or effort on the part of the searcher?
