Indeed Narnel. Glad to be back now.
It was our ninth such con and the best so far in my opinion. People wrote some great adventures and we had our first PC death at the claws of a black dragon. Up until then it had all been animal companions.
Next one is in late October and mostly about some naughty clan dwarves.
Cheers

I went Larping this weekend for the first time in about a decade (see my friend Janine Ashbless' blog for extra details). In blizzard conditions. Banning head hits means that the combat is a bit irritating cos you're slashing away at people's legs beneath the giant weightless shields, but otherwise I had a great time. And I learned another Ellieism for undead. Old english "Nichtganger" (literally 'goer at night').

Any of the Brits in the crew ever done one of Jim Wallman's Megagames? Big multi-player part role play part wargame, usually held in London but next weekend is Invasion From Mars! at the Leeds Royal Armouries. Where I am part of the Central Committee of the Diggers and Miners Collective.

I think, and don't quote me, that we're about to get attacked by a ravening horde of undead while trying to get back to the inn to rescue a possibly imaginary (or already turned into undead hors d'oeuvres) group of children who may be in a cellar downstairs (as opposed to a cellar upstairs).

Eli, have you been paying attention to US politics again? :D It is like when someone says they are going to tell the truth... It usually means they are about to lie.
All- I am going to be away for a few days starting in the early AM tomorrow and back on the 18th. Some time for you to find a perfect strategy. :D
Aidan Ayrvar |
Aidan can burn out a few spells rapid-fire to give us an edge here. Warp wood will open just about anything, soften earth and stone will get a pretty sizable (and shapeable) mass of dead stuck in the mud (literally) and I can use pass without trace on a number of us as the rest lead the dead away.
Elinor Knutsdottir |
My megagame went quite well. With a little assistance from an orbital bombardment arranged with the Martian Navy we held off the aggression from the Democratic Republic of Cydonia, distributed our churches across the planet and kept our economy running (just about). And I got to read exciting passages from the bible to the other gamers.
As far as the important stuff goes, I'm not certain where all the undead are coming from as I don't think they're marked on the map. Aidan breaking up the undead into manageable groups sounds like an ideal plan (as long as it doesn't leave him in the middle of them because he had to stop to cast the spells), then the heavier hitters (Abbas, Tzurkhan, Pluchak, Bryndyn (if he ever hits anything)) wade in to crush the still mobile group while Taedric and Elinor use their faster speed to head off any awkward singletons. If stuck in the mud undead are vulnerable to sneak attack Narnel can probably knock one over a round if he's willing to risk getting close enough. Meanwhile, I trust Harlynn to come up with something suitably flashy and effective. This is probably not Seneca's ideal fight (I'm assuming he can't rebuke them to leave us alone and probably healing them won't help us much) so he should maybe be nominated to go into the inn to try to find the kids (or the kids' corpses, or the kids' animated corpses, depending) - I think he's got a reasonable cha and perception skill .
Of course, one failed save against paralysis could ruin everything.
Taedric Starfell |
Seems a reasonable plan.
Narnel Falerathon |
Curiously enough, Eli, you failed to include me in your plans. I will assist Seneca at the Inn. That was my planned course, and I probably should just stick with it.
Elinor Knutsdottir |
Au contraire
If stuck in the mud undead are vulnerable to sneak attack Narnel can probably knock one over a round if he's willing to risk getting close enough.
Not that I'd want to put you at risk, but you may be immune to paralysis.

Just be sure to message him before he heads down. Maybe Abbas should accompany him, as well.
Tkurzhan can provide some flanking, his armor is pretty good, but I'd rather not get into a confrontation if it's avoidable.
Abbas of Cheliax |
Mobility is not really Abbas' thing. Perception even less so. But he is diplomatic so accompanying Seneca probably is a good idea. The hardest part of this for you guys to keep moving towards the Inn. The undead may swamp you if we split up for too long.
Elinor Knutsdottir |
Enjoy, Abbas. Although after we went family camping on Dartmoor (actually, Exmoor I think) about thirty years ago that was the last time we went family camping. (More to do with the 'family' bit than either the camping or the Exmoor bits).

Sorry for the silence from me...
You know that scary moment when you turn on the PC and it makes a horrible grinding noise? And nothing else. Well I just learned about it. Luckily I think my files are saved and I am back in business. A new post from me up shortly.
Note to any of you who have not heard this noise... Your computer does not have a coffee grinder in it and it is not making you a hot cup to thank you for being you.
(I can laugh now... This time yesterday was a very different story!)
Taedric Starfell |
Wow, Sigil, you've been having the worst luck! Glad things are working now...
Sigil |
And here I had been thinking I was having great luck. A computer crash and my files are intact and usable within 72 hours? A freakin' miracle if you ask me. I was thrilled. I still have a several year old dead laptop kicking around that I cannot figure out how to get my pics off of.
FW, maybe I can send you the old PC and you send me the old boiler and see if they can do each others jobs?
Taedric Starfell |
I mean in general. The lack of data loss is, indeed, a good thing (tm).

A five foot step is essentially assuming the creature always was on that square. Basically it was so close to the side that it need not track movement. Additionally, it need not make a fly check, as it naturally succeeds.
Elinor Knutsdottir |
And can it carry a coconut...?
They've changed the fly rules (and largely improved them I think), but my recollection is that to hover requires quite a good fly check and not all flying creatures can do this. Certainly RL eagles can't. It's a bit quirky - if the eagle is 5' stepping it has to be on the ground (otherwise it's falling out of the sky); there's nothing anywhere that says an eagle on the ground can't attack with two talons and a beak, so it can. But you've got to admit it's a bit odd. (Eagle hops from foot to foot kicking the target).
Aidan Ayrvar |
"You may not take a 5-foot step using a form of movement for which you do not have a listed speed."
Implying you can, if you do, even burrowing xD
Move less than half speed and remain flying- DC 10
Hover- DC 15
This Link detailing all summoned monster stats may come in handy.
Elinor Knutsdottir |
I love the idea of a burrowing 5' step. I'm going to have to do that to my players sometime just for the howls.
One of the oddnesses of this kind of thing is that big creatures are better at flying than small creatures because they have more hit dice (and therefore, more skill points to put into fly). (Although small creatures tend to have better maneuverabilities (do they still have maneuverabilities?))
Taedric Starfell |
They do -- and they represent bonuses to the fly skill now.
