What monster books have lots of Fey?

Product Discussion

I need as many as possible from 3E, 3.5, and Pathfinder. Which monster books available in print have a large selection of Fey?

With respect, I can't do PDFs. I've never been a big PDF fan in general, and I may not have access to anywhere to save PDF files for a long time.

Well, this may take a bit, but I'll sort through my 3.5 stuff first . . .

Stormwrack - Nereid
Sandstorm - Mirage Mullah [template]
Frostburn - Domovoi, Rusalka, Spirit Animal [template], Uldra, Vodyanoi, Yuki-on-na
Cityscape - Zeitgeist

Goodman Games published one called "The Complete Guide to Fey," which included fey-based classes, spells, and other rules.

Green Ronin's "Advanced Bestiary" includes templates such as Seelie and Unseelie.

I know the Kingmaker AP has a lot to do with fey and various First World critters, so you might want to look there, too.

Dang, looking at it all, it seems like Fey kinda get short shrift with monster options. The 3 bestiaries Paizo has out each have a decent selection of fey in them, but it's sometimes hard to find them outside of that. Same goes for plants. Makes populating my weird valley of fey, plants, vermin, and oozes kinda time-consuming.

Can you tell me more about The Complete Guide to Fey? It sounds interesting.

I own the Advanced Bestiary already. It's one of my favorite 3PP books. I also have all three PF Bestiaries.

The reason I need as many fey as possible is that conflict between the human races (a category that includes elves, dwarves, and so on) and fey is a major occurrence, and I want to have a variety of them.

We recently released a fey-centric Mythic Menagerie titled Mythic Menagerie: Faeries of the Fringe. It includes 7 new fey (graveyard-swelling charnel-kin, freedom-loving cait sith or catfey, small rocky gahonga, peaceful glade maidens, deathly night swan, the massive river mother, and maddening waterbaby) 2 pages of fey specific items and feats, and 1 page of spells.

Yes it's a PDF, but if you email me at hyrum@otherworlds.cx I'll send you a free copy so you can check it out.

Sent. You are right that I don't like PDFs, but if it's only a a few pages I could probably print it pretty cheap. I'll give you a review after I read it.

Was actually going to mention the Fairies of the Fringe. Yes, it's a PDF, but I wholeheartedly like it, primarily because of the aforementioned dearth of fey in other products.

Super Genius Games is one of my favorite 3PPs, so they are definitely worth looking at. And, if you don't think you'll have PDF-technology available, you can always print them off! Backup copy for the win!

Alluria Publishing's Fey Folio: Clans of the Fey Realm is available in print here.

That one looks good, James. I'll look into it. I love RPG Now's print on demand.

Grand Lodge

There is also the Paizo, Realm of the Fellnight Queen. Very Fae heavy and a few extra fae in the beastiary at the back of it.

In addition to the already-mentioned books, WotC's Fiend Folio (6 Fey, two Fey templates), Monster Manual 3 (9 Fey), Monster Manual 5 (6 Fey), and Oriental Adventures (7 Fey) each have a selection of Fey creatures.

Liberty's Edge

Tome of Horrors (Complete) 32 FEY as follows : asrai, atomie, baccae, baobhan sith, brownie, buckawn, common mite, forgotten one, forlarren, fyr, gray nisp, gremlin, gremlin filcher, grig swarm, grimm, grimstalker, killmoulis, korred, leprechaun, mimi, nereid, oakman, pech, pestie (mite), phooka, quickling, redcap, spriggan, sprite, stroke lad, tombstone fairy, woodwose.

I have been wanting ToH for a very long time. Unfortunately, it's over 100 dollars.

4 Winds Fantasy Gaming's Tome of Monsters has several Fey as well: Erlking, Gremlin, Grindylow, Leprechaun, Likho, Mannegishi, Narecnitsi, Redcap, Selkie, Silverlight, Valva, Xana. And it's available in print HERE

Headless Hydra Games' Mor Aldenn Creature Compendium is rather Fey-centric and only 5 bucks - you might want to check that one out as well.

I use azata as seelie sidhe and demons as unseelie. I change appearance as I see fit. The cold iron DR is already built in.

I know. Which brings us back to PDFs.

Currently, your insistence upon non-PDF, dead-tree only, CHEAP printed books appears to be incompatible with and an unrealistic expectation in the current marketplace; moreover, there is absolutely no prospect of that changing in the short to medium term. The 3.0 era is over and I don't foresee it returning in terms of print products. Sorry.

Don't think of the Tome of Horrors as costing $110 for one book. Think of it as costing 15 cents per monster, with a lot of bonus templates, hazards, planes, monster feats, etc.

I don't like reading books on the computer, and I may not have access to one that I can save files on for a long time. I'm heading off to Job Corps, and I'm probably not taking my computer. I just don't like PDFs, and even if I did they won't work for me.

As for cheap, I don't mind paying 20, 30 dollars for a book, and I don't mind buying used 3E and 3.5 books. 110 dollars, however, is a bit much for me. Most of the stuff recommended in this thread I could buy for less than 30 dollars pretty easily. My insistence on print copies that are less than 100 dollars is not at all unrealistic, as I buy that kind of thing all the time, and a lot of the stuff recommended in this thread is stuff that looks like what I need and that I can afford.

I know it's awesome, and I want it. I can't pay 110 dollars right now, though. I just don't have the money.

I'm printing out all my pdfs. Whether you buy a book or print out some neat books, you can still have them bound. Binding+printing might actually be a cheap alternative that opens up all those nifty pdfs for you... Just sayin'... :)

I've heard of websites where you email them a PDF and a fee, and they print and bind it, then send it to you. I'll try that out someday, but not now.

Van Richten's Guide to the Shadow Fey is my favorite book on the fey.

Seconded. Of all editions and rpgs. Including Changeling. This is by far my favorite book on fey.

Thank you for mentioning this, Ambrosia.

It is a PDF, but it is fairly short and easy to print. There is a full-color version and an art-free version in the package. Four fey are featured. Two were written by Mike Welham, who is currently apart of the RPG Superstar Top 16. It also provides the basic details for our version of the Faerie Realm.

By the way, we re-worked the art, replaced a few pieces, and kicked everything up a notch on the formatting end with the full-color version. This was in response to some very helpful feedback.

Bastion Press did a book in 3.0 called Faeries; it might be worth your time to track it down.
