The Band of the Hand

Silver Crusade

In the old Enemies and Allies book there was a group of adventurers called the Band of the Hand. They were a group of mercenaries who's only loyalty was to their paycheck and could be used as rivals of the PCs. I have been looking for a group to serve as a foil for the PCs in my own campaign, and since the Hand roughly mirrors the make up of my group I thought that they would be a great foil. I will warn you though, they are not a direct conversion, more of an adaptation to fit my needs.

Silver Crusade

First up is Archangel, the leader of the group. As a cleric he worships the god/ess Enkili. Archangel favors his aspect as the Mistress of Fortune and the Master Trickster. He was the one who first brought the Hand together and the one who keeps them together today.

He is a member of the Cult of Ancients which is the most feared assassin's guild in the Scarred Lands. He likes to use his heavy weapons and armor to lull his opponents into a false sense of security before he starts to use his sneak attack and Bleeding Attack abilities.

Hey I loved that book!

Let's see the other ones are Eiger (the Sanction), Jill something, and that crappy halfling.

I used these guys in a game I dm'ed once. That halfling was totally useless. Rogue/Sorceress or something awful like that.

Finally done, this is the White Spider. She is a halfling sorcerer/rogue who specializes in second story work and hides among the various war orphans in Rustfang when she is not on the job. She has been with Archangel longer than any other members of the Hand and they have very much developed a father/daughter relationship. This is added to by the fact that she can easily pass as a human child. If she has a name other than White Spider even Archangel doesn't know what it is.

Silver Crusade

I realized that I failed to give Eiger any background and very little for Jil, so here you go:

At some point in the past Archangel saved Eiger's life and now Eiger owes him a life debt. He is very tight lipped about his past and nobody knows where he comes from. He is from The Scar, a hidden valley in the Sweltering Plains where a tribe of half-orcs known as the Urkhardi dwell. Although they are half-orcs by blood they have lived as a separate people since before the Divine War and have developed a peaceful culture based on honor and service to the community. Eiger was sent from his home to learn if the world is ready for The Urkhardi to rejoin it. Although Eiger often dislikes the jobs Archangel finds for them, his honor requires him to aid his friend until the life debt is paid.

Jil Du Ghal is the Hand's only dedicated fighter who specializes in archery. She is also romantically involved with Archangel. She is originally from Hedrad, but believed that balance was more important than law and so was branded a rebel. She was about to pay for her "crimes" by suffering the judgement of gold when Archangel freed her from prison and helped her escape the city. With nowhere else to go, she agreed to lend her skills to the Hand.
