So if I am understanding what you are saying you will still have double up months? (I regard any month where two issues of an Ap ship to be a double up month)

Keep in mind that ship dates cannot ever be firm until we have product in our warehouse, which means that we don't even yet know whether #55 will ship in late March or early April, so a lot can change before August... but if I had to make a bet, my bet would be that we'll be doubling up the last chapter of Skull & Shackles and the first chapter of Shattered Star in early August, and I'd also bet that we won't have to double up *until* then.

If you guys do release a book with revised kingdom building rules, PLEASE factor in how a GM is supposed to keep track of all the number crunching without going insane.

I've spent close to 2 weeks now laboring over a spreadsheet/calculator to keep track of all the Kingmaker variables over a continuous span of time rather than just summing everything at a fixed point in time. It's absolutely ridiculous — particularly the way Unrest gets recalculated so many times during the course of a turn. At least with Sim City, a computer is able to handle all the crunch, but the default assumption here is that a person does it by hand on paper. Keep in mind, this criticism is coming from someone who has worked on some pretty damn advanced spreadsheets in his day.

Also, if you redo the exploration part, for the love of all that is holy, double-check your math for hex sizes! :P

I realize that JJ's intent was for the "12 miles" to be the distance it takes to travel from one hex to another (i.e. middle to middle), but instead of an inner-radius (center to mid-point of side) of 6 miles, someone botched and made the sides 6 miles long. To complicate matters, John Brazer's book used a side length of 12 miles which completely throws the travel times out of whack.

Just in case you need a helping hand... ;)
Polygon Calculator

Another thing that would be nice to see is the incorporation of the Overland Round. Laurefindel has a version that's been quite popular for moving over large areas (i.e. cross-country movment), and I've got a derivative version I created for use on Smuggler's Shiv (i.e. hourly movement).

And please try to make a non-magic item based economy. That was one of the things every single player in both my ( aborted ) Kingmaker campaigns was facepalming about. Because it's a ridiculous assumption that there are somehow a great number of unknown really, really rich people buying 4-5 major magic items every single month.

There is an advantage to delayed AP chapters.
Now I can buy all of that other stuff Paizo writes that would ordinarily blow my budget. I finally got a module, and some old stuff I had missed prior to my subscriptions.

The double delivery has happened before.
I actually like chapters 1&2 coming in together.
Having chapters 6&1 come is pretty near to making my head explode. :)

As a subscriber, it doesn't really bother me if two chapters ship together.

However, I'm starting to wonder if ten adventure paths is enough (or 13 if you count the Dungeon ones) so I'm debating whether to cancel after Skull & Shackles (I'm not going to turn down a pirate themed AP). If part 6 of S&S were to ship with part 1 of Shattered Star that might become an issue for me.

If I had my druthers, I would prefer the first two issues of an AP ship together rather than the last volume of one AP and the first volume of another. Having the first two volumes of an AP in hand at once allows me as a DM to do significantly more short-to-medium range campaign planning in a single sitting. I find that much of my time as a DM is spent before the campaign even starts, and having the first two volumes in hand at once would make that process a lot easier.

Mister Vic Wertz,

I just wanted to say I noticed that Jade Regent #4 (House of Spirits) also didn't get bulleted. I was hoping someone might fix that.

PS, as long as quality products get shipped, I'll not bang my head when products ship later than previously announced.

James will there ever be a book that contains all these subsystems? I like the subsystems as my group and I are world builders so we like to have in game things to develop.

Plus I find the subsystems give a nice bit of flavour to the campaigns.

A book that contains all of these subsystems, revised and expanded as necessary, and perhaps joined by additional subsystems, would not only be cool, but would allow us to use such elements in Adventure Paths, modules, and other products with MUCH GREATER ease.

I would love us to do a book like this, and have wanted us to do a book like this since the start, pretty much.

Yes, please.

While I currently feel a little swamped by rules-bloat (maybe I have a low threshold), getting such a book would be a priority.

In Paizo's defense, its really easy for errors to creep in and go unnoticed, regardless of how much editing you do. The Book of Beasts: Monsters of the Shadow Plane is a prime example. While I was the only writer on the project, I had NINE crunch editors. Some were among the best crunch converters at d20PFSRD.com and one goes to MIT. No one caught every mistake. Infact, the game is so rules heavy, we had discussions about is A correct or is B correct. Both were seemingly right according to the rules at first glance. It was more of a question of which was more right for this exact instance. Despite all that editing, I know the book isn't perfect. And that's a 48 page book. Blow that up to 256 pages and ... you get the idea.

Short of the long: errors happen, no matter how much editing you do.

Yeah, and then people rate books 1/5 due to "zillions of errors" and bash companies for poor editing. Figures.

James Jacobs wrote:

Will we EVER do a complex subsystem for an AP again in the future? I can guarantee it. It's just not gonna happen as often, and when it does... it'll be something we plan ahead a lot more.

Well the Planetary Romance AP will definitely have to have one..for travel between planets if nothing else..I can't see it just being a case of teleport to the next exciting installment every time.

Ultimate Subsystems? :)

+ 5!! I'm ready to order a hardcover on this subject! Just put a date on it!

Yep, hence why customers should point out errors so that later reprints and future revisions can benefit from several 100 proof-readers.

If that was directed at me, I'd suggest you check my review tab and note the rating I gave the Jon Brazer book back when I bought it.

Done! Thanks for letting me know.

Liberty's Edge

I wanna see the chase rules from Edge of Anarchy show back up.

And 13aps is nowhere near enough, especially if a few dont go over well with the group and peter out (second darkness, council of thieves serpents skull and kingmaker in my group)

James, Vic, et.al., I just wanted to say not all fans/subscribers get their Girdles of Giant Strength in a bunch over things like this. The quality APs you make and ship are excellent whether they are early or late, doubled-up, or off by a month. With new products in the works, I bet this will be another amazing year for PAIZO, and I'll bet most customers can appreciate the crunch you're feeling right now. Good work on everything, no worries, and good luck on all the new products and innovations!

Wait no longer, pick up the GameMastery Guide and the Chase Cards from the GameMastery Line.

The rules themselves are also available in the PRD: Chase Rules
