Ultimate Magic / Combat: New Rules?

Product Discussion

Liberty's Edge

I am honestly not interested in adding an avalanche of new player options to Pathfinder -- feats, spells, classes, etc -- but I am curious what new rules are present in Ultimate Combat and Ultimate Magic that are worth using in a typical campaign. I'm thinking stuff like the chase or guild rules.

Thanks.

UM has construct rules, binding rules, spell duels, spell design guide lines.

UC has firearms, piecemeal armor, siege weapons, vehicles, duels, gladiatorial combat. You can check them out in the PRD. I can't link to it right now, but Google for it :-)

Ah man, you left out spellblights (magical ailments, more or less) from Ultimate Magic, and Called Shots from Ultimate Combat!

UM was kind of a wash. I was hoping for more magic items, but I got stuck with Word Spells?! Yeah, I could have lived with out that. UC has some nice feats, and guns are cool. The added weapon/armor materials are very nice I think. Now there are real rules for bone weapons, and that suit of gold armor you found. Called Shots are a nice idea too. Only buy UM if you want a Magus.

You also left out Armor as DR and Performance Combat, both from UC.

Honestly, spell duels from UM have replaced counterspelling wholesale at my table and are my favorite addition from that book.

Also, PRD link!

I was 95% asleep when I wrote that! And I did not forget performance combat! I just called it gladiatorial combat. See the first sentence!

I have to say I do like the idea of performance combat (I was thinking of my old swashbuckler at the time), but I couldn't see how it would work for a day-to-day game. Does it even have a place outside of an arena or bar fight?
