You can read the full retail channel announcement here. I know it's technically not 4e news, but this sub-forum seems to have transitioned to a sort of catch-all for anything WotC does.

Fantastic. Thanks for posting - any idea where these can be ordered from?
This is an announcement that reportedly went out to hobby retail channels. I expect that it's probably a hobby retail exclusive. So find your local FLGS and let them know you'd like a copy. They'll be able to make sure they get ahold of one for you.
EDIT: Yep, the announcement says it's a hobby retail exclusive, so FLGS only.

That's unfortunate. I have a feeling L doesn't refer to Australians.

Good move. But, North America only is very annoying. I hope there's some way to get them elsewhere.
The announcement notes that this is a hobby channel exclusive in North America. It doesn't explain how the books will be made available in other territories, or whether they will be made available in those territories.

Well, they're offering something I have, so I can pass on buying (now, if they weren't updated covers and were the original DCS and Dave Trampier covers, with the exact same binding as the originals...).
But, seems like someone over there got their heads out of their asses. Easier to hear what the non-sycophants (i.e. people that stopped being customers) may want to spend a little coin on. Plus, maybe this will make it easier for me to revive my old 1e campaign, so that would be cool also.
Now, if they'd just reprint all of the original modules as well...

Mordenkainen's Magnificent Emporium was announced as a hobby channel exclusive, and I can get that, but I don't remember the announcement specifying North America. I hope it'll work the same way, but I'd like to be sure.

I guess with this reprint the gauge the demand for reprinted material.
If it meets their expectations they will probably distribute the reprints in other countries too.
And if that is a success, they might even reprint other materials. The Rules Cyclopedia comes to mind.
These reprints might bridge the income gap until 5th edition is released.
And yeah, I want a reprint too.

Well, at least some of the profits are going to the Gygax Memorial Fund, so the demand will be artificially high with old-school gamers, even at $115 US to get all three. With release in both the US and Canada, which country would independent importers be more likely to use to get the books to Australia or Europe? Also, I am already dreading how overpriced these will be on eBay and Amazon.

I think this is a great idea. Kind of like how they've done the limited release miniatures sets (just got an Orcus the other day). I think a classic release a year would be a good strategy. The combination A, T and GDQ modules as collector classic editions would be nice.
I'd love to see the Basic & Expert boxed sets for OD&D get reprinted, as I was too young to get them the first time around. The Mystara gazetteers would be nice to have, too.

My long time friend is charged with designing and creating Gary Gygax's memorial.
I hope WoTC does right by this for it will go along way in showing some old school fans they are at least mindful of the game's history, and dearly hope to see the memorial at Gencon 1213 before it makes it's way to it's permanent home in Lake Geneva.

Dude, if you're going to run a 1e campaign, please count me in. Also, I may be able to help you out with some modules.

You already know people I already play with get first seat dibs :-)
And, we'll talk about modules next time we meet, I have some, and some old Dungeon mags, so I have a decent amount of material, but I mostly to original stuff. I use the modules for set pieces, mostly.

This is kind of amusing. I've never played 1E/2E at all. But I have pondered over the last year of what it'd be like to play 1E or 2E, just to try it out.
Only thing that has stopped me was the fact that I currently don't have a regular group to play in, and even if I did, I don't know if I could get people interested in playing it (all except my former DM, since he did play 2E).
Otherwise, I might have bought this. (I realize that there's retro clones of 1E, so if I had the chance, I would have started off with that).
Oh well. A pity, 'cause I really wanted to see how it played.

First off, this is unalloyed goodness. I have grown irritated today by the number of people on Facebook and other arenas who've said "Yeah, it's great but that doesn't change the fact that 4th Edition sucks." or "Yeah, it's okay, but Wizards has a way to go before I'll lift the curse I placed on their headquarters." or "Yeah, it's nice and all, but it's only a cheap marketing gimmick."
Bleaugh. I'm on the record: It's a good thing, period.
Secondly, if you live in Austrailia and you're interested in a set, I'll see what I can do to pick one up for you. We'll either figure out postage, or else I'll grab Wes when he comes up north to visit during Origins this year, and we'll give him an extra suitcase to carry back with him.

This is a great move. Doing the reprint is great enough but then to use it fund the Gygax Memorial?
A classy move, Wizards.
You have my support and I will be buying these.

In my gaming circles it was known as the XP express. I knew groups that started on page 1 and worked their way through every pantheon collecting artifacts and levels like candy. I never understood the appeal but to each their own I say.
I think i know what I'll be asking for for my birthday (it's 4 days after the release date!)

Hi Chris - this would be greatly appreciated. Apparently there is some chance of an Australian distributor down here being able to get some (Mil Sims for those Australians who are interested) as they've had some way of sourcing similar such offers in the past, apparently.
Nonetheless, if nothing eventuates, I for one would like to take you up on this when the time comes. Cheers.
