And the best part about getting the PDF is it is updated whenever they edit for errata and stuff, and is always available to download, so you can always have the latest version!
Yup. Now if I can just find a clean, neat, easy way to update hard copies. I've already dumped my first printing (given to a friend) for the third...now I want a fifth! :)

The technology exists, it's just too expensive. It'd require an electronic page for each page in the book and then you'd have to buy more if an update added more pages. ;)

IANAL but I'm pretty sure this is a question that the answer varies by location (and time). Many places this was legal but increasingly this basic normal right is being eroded. I know this was legal in Australia, but I think it may have changed or is going to change due to the FTA with USA where we agreed to adopt many draconian USA copyright protection laws.
It is illegal to copy and distribute the pdf after modifying it, just like it was before modification. This isn't variable by location (or at least isn't in many)
