Saw this

Is there really nothing new under the sun? I mean The Munsters? Really?

Shadow Lodge

I'm amazed that they learned nothing from the live-action Flintstones movie.

Actually, two live-action Flintstones movies.

Never underestimate the Boomers’ death grip on pop culture.

Liberty's Edge

I think TV went into a coma about four or five years ago.

-BSG was the best sci-fi, period.
-Lost was still edge-of-the-seat awesome.
-The Simpsons still had a few fairly original episodes.
-E.R. was still at the top of its game.
-Spooks was interesting.
-Doctor Who was magically awesome (it's still awesome, but it has an established feel to it now)
-The Office was tearfully funny
-Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends was the absolute most original cartoon around; and every episode was spectacular.
-Spongebob still felt original.
-Dora was still a little girl.
-The Wonder Pets were actually wonderful.
-Smallville was a show you went home early to watch.
-The Sopranos--this is HBO to me.

I sold my telly when House's 7th season finished, I know TV can hardly offer anything better.

Wow...you are so wrong on so many levels...but you are right in your original statement, and about Doctor Who.

The writer's strike back in 2007 took the wind out of their sails. We saw a glut of "reality" television to make up for it. However, TV is just taking a page out of Hollywood's playbook. Why write something original when you can just dig up something old and flash it up?

And for the record, Farscape was the best sci-fi, period. ;-)

Shadow Lodge

Castle
Burn Notice
Sanctuary

Not much, but they are shows I like.

Odd, it seemed "established" to me back in 1986 or so (and that's only because that's when I started watching it). ;)

I actually get what you're saying though. The newest seasons haven't been giving me the same thrill that they were in the earlier part of this century.

Shadowborn's got a good point about the writer's strike, although I think the well was drying even before that fully hit (Bionic Woman anyone? *shudders and clings to Lindsay Wagner*)

For new shows this year, I actually enjoyed Pan Am and Ringer (at least at first; Ringer started to annoy me), but I like (to a degree) nighttime soap operas. Pan Am seemed a nice new spin on things.

As for all the proposed remakes...

I am curious to see what they do with the proposed Muppets TV show though. I enjoyed the recent movie.

Regarding Bewitched... it was mildly entertaining when they bred it with Charlie's Angels and called it "Charmed" (If you ever saw Charmed, you'd note the Halliwell sisters' parents were basically Samantha and Darrin and their grandmother was an especially awesome take on Endora) ... not sure if they can pull it off again, though. I think there's only so much you can do with that after awhile.

Munsters could be really interesting or really awful.

Seth MacFarlane makes The Flintstones? I... am sure there's a market for it. I am probably not in it.

Speaking of remakes and continuations, apparently there's going to be a few new episodes of Absolutely Fabulous made in Britain.

I have kids, so, Wonderpets, you know? Also, I meant for 2007-ish times, not best Sci-fi in history...

Fair enough. You're probably right about BSG in that respect, because I couldn't even remember any other Sci-fi TV shows from that period other than Torchwood. (I'd still take Captain Jack over Galactica, but I'm probably in the minority with that opinion.) I had to look them up. Painkiller Jane? I only have a vague recollection of this show existing. Dresden Files. I remember watching the show, but I couldn't honestly recap a single episode for you. Flash Gordon? I think my brain subconsciously blocked that one so I wouldn't relive the pain.

Granted, after the strike was over we got Dollhouse, so that's something.
