Hey All,
With great regret I have tendered my resignation from the position of Ontario Venture-Captain.
Unfortunately, a consistent schedule of mandatory 6 shifts a week on midnights has taken its toll, interfering with my ability to live up to what I expect from myself as a representative of Pathfinder Society Organized Play.
This is almost entirely based on Real Life priorities. It certainly has nothing to do with Society leadership or direction. I have greatly enjoyed working with Mike, Mark, my fellow Venture-Officers, and the Paizo folks, and hope further opportunities will arise when life settles down.
I'd like to thank all of the GMs and organizers from my region, including (but not limited to) Steel_Wind, TorbinWren, Rolen, Feegle, Jason S, and Armac.
I'll still be GMing and organizing Society whenever possible, and I will continue to be as annoying as ever on these boards: answering questions, debating grey areas, flagging non-Society questions, using the Queen's English, and reminding people to hyphenate Venture-Captain ;)
Good Gaming All!

While I may not have had the privilege to meet you or play at your table, your contributions on the boards have always been exemplary. Thank you for your time and effort in your region, and may the Random Dice Gods forever be on your side.
Let me add my thanks as well for all the reasons above.

NOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What will we do without a Shackleton as a Venture-Captain? I mean really...PFS stands for Pathfinder Shackleton...
Neil still going to make it to GenCon?

1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Although Neil isn't actually going someplace else, I still feel a sense of loss like I'm not going to see him again. He's been a good friend and a vital sounding board on all things PFS. I've always admired Neil's even temperament and abundant good humor. He was an excellent VC. Unfortunately his job as his nation's Apologist Laureate has him working six shifts a week composing letters of apology for Justin Bieber's music. Way to go, Canada. You stuck it to us again.

Sorry to hear that Neil, but I can understand the need. I hope I still get to meet you at a con in the future or around the gaming table!
I shall toast your stepping down with the traditional Canadian "Beaver Bite"; two parts screech to one part maple syrup, chased with a pale ale and a bowl of poutine...

Well, this stinks, I thought you did a great job Neil, and I honestly don't know how you and Rob find the time to do it each and every week. Imo, if you organized just a few big events per year, I think that would have been enough.
Ah well, hope to see you at Spellstorm and maybe Gryphcon. Is anyone organizing these now and will there be any PFS at them?

Thanks Neil, for blazing the trail for PFS in Canada - I've always admired your calm and even-handed discussions. Those of us in the west of this fair nation will endeavour to honour you and the Queen's English on the boards as well.
(But I'm not apologizing for Bieber... he's from Ontario, that'll be up Steel_Wind and the other folks out east! :)

Sorry to lose you in your official capacity, Neil. I hope we'll see you from time to time in an unofficial capacity. I'm also glad we got to see Midnight Mauler run in Toronto before you retired. :)
FWIW, if you need someone to help pick up and make sure there's PFS at one of the upcoming Toronto-area cons, drop me an email and I'll see what I can do to help out.

Thank you all for the kind words, but I'll still be on the boards fairly regularly, albeit under my restored cloak of anonymity ;)
Jason, Feegle, Cainus: I still hope to be running games at StrDexCon, Game Summit, SpellStorm, GryphCon, and Phantasm (which takes me thru March). However, I know that I'm already scheduled for work for the first 3, with more announcements to come.
Which is where the problem comes in. It's hard to coordinate things when I'm unable to commit to attending. And too exhausted to be effective on my off weekends.
I still hope to make it to Origins and Gen Con, and will throw dice with many of you there. Tho I admit I'm looking forward to seeing the area outside the Gen Con PFS room for the first time in 4 years :)

Sorry to hear of your decision to step down Neil. I completely understand the struggle regarding the time commitment. It sucks that life has to get in the way, but it is what it is I guess.
I never had the chance to meet you, but I tried to follow the Ontario thread as often as I could. I hope that one day I'll get the opportunity.

I come to bury Neil, not to praise him...I mean, well, no, that's what I mean.
Unfortunately his job as his nation's Apologist Laureate has him working six shifts a week composing letters of apology for Justin Bieber's music. Way to go, Canada. You stuck it to us again.
At least he had a few years of a break after apologizing for Celine Dion before he started having to apologize for Bieber.
Neil, sorry to see you step down, but I know that I'll still see you around.
Good job! (Wait! I think that was praise. Oops.)
Angus

*sigh*
I know you had mentioned this was a possibility depending on the way things shook down, but it's still disappointing (and surprising).
On the plus side, there is a whole lot to do at Gencon besides PFS! Running 3 or 4 slots is fun; 10 or 12? Not so much :) So yes, there are plusses to the whole thing.
*sigh*
