Does anyone know if the word limit includes everything - as in "aura" "cl" and all that...or just the description?
Yes, all the words that are in the template are part of your word count. I think that, once you strip away all the BBC formatting, it's around 24 words.
Preview is your friend. Gives you the right word count right there in title. Just make sure you don't hit submit by mistake.

I found out about this competition a little late. If I missed out on the item section, can I still participate in the remaining sections? If so how do I go about submitting them or getting on a waiting list, etc.?
Nope, sorry. You'll have to enter next year. The first round selects the top 32, then those 32 compete in the next round, etc.
Go ahead and follow along this year and see how it works and come back strong and enter next year! It is a great contest and a great community surrounding it. Who knows, maybe you will make the cut next year!

There are quite often practice threads for the other rounds which may get visited from time to time by the judges. I wouldnt post your organisation yet though, I'd wait until the voting for round 2 is over, then you can post for feedback (the community feedback is awesome on these forums) without distracting from the main competition.
