How did it go!?

Sovereign Court

Hey there Pathfinders. I bet some of you are asking yourselves "what's going on this weekend?" ... Well, look no further. For here is an assortment of events to fill your weekend!

Well, your Friday and Saturday at any rate.

Friday August 1

12:30pm-4:30pm
The Midnight Mauler - This season 3 scenario is for tier 3-7. The Decemvirate sends you to the mist-shrouded land of Ustalav to find out what happened to the former Pathfinder Society Master of Blades. In the course of your assignment, you encounter murder most foul ... and unnatural. Of course, what else would you expect to find in Ustalav? There are 5 open seats currently.

5:30pm-9:30pm
Port Godless - This season 5 scenario is for tier 5-9. So when fighting demons, it's good to have those who know how to fight demons by your side, and there are few who know how to fight demons more than the Riftwardens. Of course, there are also few Riftwardens. You must travel to Rahadoum to try to locate several Riftwardens who have recently disappeared within that land. What could be easier? Praise Razmir! This table is currently full.

Intro 1- First Steps: In the Service of Lore - This introductory scenario is for level 1 PCs only ... but may be played repeatedly with new level 1 PCs. Go through Absalom to gather knowledge and get to know the leaders of some of the factions. It's Absalom, what could possibly happen? This table is currently full.

Saturday August 2

12:30pm-4:30pm
Storming the Diamond Gate - This season 3 scenario is for tier 3-7. I am sure you all know of the Hao Jin Tapestry and the private demiplane contained within it, yes? And how the tapestry is the only means of entry, right? Wrong. There is a back door and the Aspis have discovered it. You must secure the gate at any cost. Good luck, I have seen this scenario claim many a PC. There are 3 open seats currently.

The Traitor's Lodge - This season 5 scenario is for tier 3-7. Investigate the sealed basement of the traitorous venture captain who aided the demon assault. Be prepared, basements are not usually sealed without cause. There are 2 open seats currently. Grand Lodge PCs will find this scenario of interest.

The Sealed Gate - This season 5 scenario is for tier 7-11. The Pathfinder basecamp in the Realm of the Mammoth Lords has fallen! With it, the Society has lost a powerful relic and two of it's leaders! You must investigate the camp, track down the perpetrators and retrieve the relic. Be forewarned, this scenario was written by Kyle "I will sup upon your tears" Baird. Expect it to be dangerous. This table is currently full. Grand Lodge and Silver Crusade PCs will find this scenario of interest.

Scars of the Third Crusade - This season 5 scenario is for tier 1-5. The Third Crusade was marked with bloody inquisitions, the fiery drive of which was never fully quelled. Now the witch-hunts have flared up again in eastern Mendev ... and pulled several fellow Pathfinders in as the focus of the hunt. You must proven their innocence ... if they are truly innocent. This table is currently full. Silver Crusade PCs will find this scenario of interest (and it does directly contribute to the Silver Crusade storyline).

5:30pm-9:30pm
The Waking Rune - This season 4 scenario is for tier 7-11. The Runelord of Sloth slumbers, but if the Cult of Lissala has their way, not for long. Do you have the ability to defeat Runelord Krune, or will you be little more than a minor annoyance he must step over as he reclaims his former dominion? There is 1 open seat currently.

The Stolen Heir - This season 5 scenario is for tier 1-5. In order to secure aid and backing for their expeditions into the Worldwound, the Society sends you to aid in the location of the daughter of a wealthy and powerful citizen of Sauerton. Will you secure her father's goodwill and support? This table is currently full. Andoran and Taldor PCs will find this scenario of interest.

Weapon in the Rift - This season 5 scenario is for tier 5-9. A secret weapon developed during the First Crusade by a cleric of Iomedea may be key in turning the tide of the war. The Society has pledged to reclaim this weapon and has sent you to get it. Did I mention that you are sent behind enemy lines? There are 2 open seats currently. Silver Crusade PCs will find this scenario of interest (and it does directly contribute to the Silver Crusade storyline).

The Merchant's Wake - This season 5 scenario is tier 1-5. A Trade Prince has died, leaving a power vacuum. You are sent as representatives to the wake, but with the struggle to claim the former power of the dead Trade Prince threatening to spiral out of control, can you keep this somber moment from becoming a bloodbath? This table is currently full. Qadira PCs will find this scenario of interest.

And there you have it. More games that you could possibly play. Well, than you could play over two days. As an individual. Ah, you know what I mean. Go sign up at Warhorn!

Hey all!

I had posted on Monday (7/28/14) on the APL FB Group board about interest in a location in Hendersonville. We may have a location but were trying to figure out a date (Mondays or Thursdays) and to see what the possible numbers of folks would be. Right now it looks like 3 available on Mondays and 4 available on Thursdays.

Just so you know, I'm terrible about checking the board here, but the FB Group board pops up on my phone...

(The location is right off I-26 on Four Seasons Blvd going towards Wal-Mart.)

Liberty's Edge 2/5

Hey Dain, what's going on THIS week?

And Hey Akitayne, have you got the group together? Is it going to be Mondays or Tuesdays?

Sovereign Court

What's going on this week? I'm not sure you really want to know what's going on this week.

But just to humor you...

LOTS!

Friday August 15, 2014
530pm-930pm
Delirium's Tangle - This season 1 scenario is for tier 1-5. Way before Torch did what he did (and you know what I'm talking about), he called in a favor from the Society. To find a Minotaur Prince. That he misplaced. In Absalom. And where do you go? Into the maze of tunnels below the city, where else? There are 2 open seats currently.

The Disappeared - This season 4 scenario is for tier 1-5. Do you like Mission: Impossible? Then this is the scenario for you! Infiltrate the Chelish Embassy and find out what happened to Zarta. This is the precursor to The Hellknoight's Feast. This table is currently full.

Saturday August 16, 2014
1230pm-430pm
Fortune's Blight - This season 1 scenario is for tier 5-9. Go to the River Kingdoms. Kill a green hag. Retrieve a sundered, ancient sword. Simple and straight forward. Except for the former owner wanting it back, the spirits of those killed by the blade wanting revenge, and the Society wanting it made whole by the time you get back to Absalom. Yep, simple and stright forward. This table if currently full.

The Goblinblood Dead - This season 3 scenario is for tier 1-5. So the Society has made use of the abandoned roads of Isger for smuggling valuable relics since the Goblinblood Wars ended a decade ago. Recently, the caravans hauling this valuable cargo have been attacked and it is up to you to find out who and to rid the region of the threat. There are 2 open seats currently.

The Sanos Abduction - This season 4 scenario is for tier 3-7. You are sent to aid a fellow agent in the Sanos Forest with their research into the fey of the woods. Nothing like an easy mission. And this is nothing like an easy mission. There are 3 open seats currently.

The Green Market - This season 4 scenario is for tier 5-9. The Aspis Consortium is harassing a merchant in Korvosa. Why is the Consortium interested in this market and what will you find? There are 6 seats open currently.

The Veteran's Vault - This season 4 scenario is for tier 1-5. A former pathfinder needs help retrieving a valuable keepsake from a hidden vault. Everything else the Society can keep. Is that a bargain or what? You remember that old saying about sounding to good to be true ... There are 3 seats open currently.

530pm-930pm
Among the Living - This season 0 scenario is for tier 1-7. A night at the opera, what could be finer? Very little. Unless that theater was once a temple and a cult takes interest in it. There are 4 open seats currently.

The Quest for Perfection, Part I: The Edge of Heaven - This season 3 scenario is for tier 1-5 and is the first of the Quest for Perfection Trilogy. Off to Tian Xia and the mountains of the Wall of Heaven to retrieve an artifact from an Iroran monastery. This trilogy is a classic and should be played in order. There is 1 open seat currently.

The Blakros Matrimony - This season 4 scenario is for tier 3-7. A Blakros wedding is coming and you are invited! After all those missions poking around their museum to fix the problems their acquisitions cause, you will finally get to relax at a nice quiet wedding ... yeah right. It's a Blakros wedding. There's probably gremlins in the wedding cake and the priest is probably a freaking mummy. There are 3 open seats currently.

Assault on the Wound - This season 5 scenario is for tier 3-7. The time has come to fight those demons back from whence they came! Bring on the armies! This scenario uses a modified version of the mass combat rules from Ultimate Campaign to heighten this epic battle. This table is currently full.

And there you have it. That's what's going on this week. Go get your game on. and don't forget to sign up at Warhorn!!!

Sovereign Court

What’s going on this weekend … I seem to get asked that a lot for some reason. Probably because I always answer the question. Well no more, I tell you! No more! I’m going to start just … oh who the hell am I kidding.

Here’s what’s going on this weekend.

Friday September 12

12:30pm-4:30pm

Assault on the Kingdom of the Impossible – This season 1 scenario is for tier 1-5. So an Aspis agent is jacking shipments of relics, artifacts, and what not on the island of Jalmeray. They even went so far as to kill a Venture Captain (but fear not, it was not Luth). Head out there and put a stop to his shenanigans. There is one open seat for this table currently.

Shadow’s Last Stand – Part II: Web of Corruption – This season 2 scenario is for tier 1-7. So back in the day, before the Shadow Lodge stopped being a faction and before it first became a faction, it was a splinter cell which caused all sorts of trouble. The leader was unknown … until this scenario. Yes, it is the appearance of The Spider (and no, we’re not talking Boris the Spider). Head to Almas and find The Spider’s whereabouts and true identity. There are 3 open seats for this table currently.

5:30pm-9:30pm

Mists of Mwangi – This season 0 scenario is for tier 1-5. Cursed monkey idols from the Mwangi Expanse beig shipped to the Blackros Museum. What could go wrong? After all, the Blackros Museum knows how to safely handle material lik… BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Yeah right! It’s the freaking Blackros Museum. This table is currently full.

The Quest for Perfection – Part III: Defenders of Nesting Swallow – This season 3 scenario is for tier 1-5. So I have said it before and I will say it again, the mini game in this scenario is pretty awesome. You also are in Tian Xia looking for some relic and fighting off tengu bandits, you know, as the RPG part of the scenario. ;) And this is the finale to the QfP trilogy; I strongly recommend playing through with the same PC. This table is currently full.

Saturday September 13

12:30pm-4:30pm

Fingerprints of the Fiend – This season 0 scenario is for tier 7-11. It’s a race against the Aspis Consortium to locate the fabled city of Rachikan. Of course, the person who was looking for it was the nephew of a retired pathfinder. and he went missing. So you get to go to Cheliax and find him … and hopefully the lost city. There are 2 open seats for this table currently.

The Tide of Twilight – This season 3 scenario is for tier 1-5. Every time I see this listed, I feel I must give warning. THIS IS A POTENTIALLY DEADLY SCENARIO! OK, that’s out of the way. Evil druids, people turning into beasts … you know, all the makings of a memorable adventure. Just play with caution. This table is currently full.

Port Godless - This season 5 scenario is for tier 5-9. Head to Rahadoum to find out what has happened to several Riftwardens who have recently disappeared there. If you succeed, the Society could have found additional allies for their endeavors in the Worldwound. There are 2 open seats for this table currently.

Trial by Machine – This season 6 scenario is for tier 1-5. So I have it on good authority that one should NOT play this with a brand new level 1 PC. Consider yourself warned. Absalom has had many failed invasions leaving behind countless siege towers. One of these, lead by the Numerian “machine mage” Karamoss 1000 years ago, is currently use by the Society as a training ground. Unfortunately, someone did not turn it off completely … This table is currently full.

5:30pm-9:30pm

The Citadel of Flame – This season 1 scenario is for tier 1-5. So a cult which preached self immolation as a means to achieve paradise was presumed to have been wiped out decades ago. Both the forces of Sarenrae and the cultists were engulfed by a massive sandstorm. Bet some of your PCs will wish it had remained buried … this one has some tough moments if you are unprepared. There are 3 open seats for this table currently.

The Quest for Perfection – Part III: Defenders of Nesting Swallow – This season 3 scenario is for tier 1-5 … ever get that feeling you have been somewhere, seen something, typed something before? Yeah, so look above in Friday … and the minigame is very cool. ;) There are 3 open seats for this table currently.

Glories of the Past – Part II: The Price of Friendship – This season 4 scenario is for tier 5-9. Welcome to Orc Town! Yep, head to the orc city of Urglin to find a guide to take you to the orc capital of Urgir in the Hold of Belkzen. Nothing like being surrounded by a bunch of orcs who would just as soon see you lying dead at their feet and not being able to swat at them with your murderhobo stick of sharp stabby stabbing. There are 2 open seats for this table currently.

The Hellknight’s Feast – This season 5 scenario is for tier 5-9. It’s a party! Break out your shindig gear for a formal banquet hosted by Michella and Damian Blakros and prepare to hob nob with the movers and shakers of Absalom. Oh yeah, you need to try to convice the movers and shakers to support the Society’s endeavors in the Worldwound. Which you would think they would be happy to do, but some folks just go “meh” when they are told about demons ravaging the countryside … This table is currently full.

First Steps – Part I: In Service to Lore – This intro scenario is for level 1 PCs only. You remember those good old days when you were just out of the academy and got sent on you first mission that did NOT involve a minotaur? Relive those times again! The ones without the minotaur, I mean … There are 2 open seats for this table currently.

Would like to give the card game a try.

Did you guys know that of the geographically-located Pathfinder Lodges on this here Paizo website, the Asheville Pathfinder Lodge has THE MOST posts?

It's clearly #1, by a factor of about 3500 posts. Not even close. #2 is the Sydney (Oz) Pathfinder Lodge.

Just saying.....

Liberty's Edge 2/5

And we still don't post here near as much as we used to since we migrated to the website and Facebook.

We're an awesome lodge.

Sovereign Court

Oh sure, post up some random stuff to boost that post count. ;)

On a game related note, if you have not yet tried to the card game out, give it a shot. It is definitely a different experience, but with the iconics we have all grown to love ... or hate ... depends on your point of view on iconics I guess. ;)

Dark Archive 3/5

Will we be getting any new games on Saturday to replace the ones we lost?

Sovereign Court

well, here's the rub. We still have a few open seats and we are three days out from playing. The tables we lost were not overly full and I believe those who were signed up have found seats at other tables.

Since we are not seeing any waitlisting with the sign ups, this looks like it will be a light APL weekend, which is fine. If we have folks walk in, we will seat who we can and if we have more players than spaces available at the FPS tables, we do have a PF Card Game table open for each slot, both of which have open seats. Might I suggest folks give the card game a try?

It honestly is not fair to a GM, nor to the players, to minimize prep time for a scenario due to lack of early sign up. Sign ups are how we gauge the interest / commitment level for a weekend and if folks don't sign up, we will give those who normally GM a chance to play.

Dark Archive 3/5

I can run a game on Saturday. I've already started prepping the Mantis's Prey.

Silver Crusade 5/5

I have sent you an email Chris. Thank you for also publicly inquiring.

A-hem ...

HEAR YE, HEAR YE!

The APL's Anniversary game is almost upon us and we have about 20 seats we can fill!

Are you tired of holiday shopping?

Fed up with setting up decorations?

Becoming more Scroogity every day?

Well, we have what you need!!!

That clatter you hear on the roof isn't reindeer, it's Pathfinder Agents.

That sound you thought was bells? Nope, it's the clashing of swords.

Carols? Nuh-uh, it's the cries of those who fall and the cheers of the victors.

Making merry and wassailing? Well, merriment during the game, sure ... and probably beer (for those of drinking age) at the APB afterwards (assuming they are open) ... not sure abut wassail though ...

You know you want to take part in the festivities and the Race for the Runecarved Key!

Sign up at Warhorn!!!

I just wanted to say that I had an awesome time at SCARAB, that was my first "Away" game, to use a sports analogy, and it was something I would recommend for anyone without hesitation. Big thank-you to Donald Kidd for GMing a whole raft of scenarios for me, including the three Thornkeeps that I played in. I also had a really good time in the Legacy of the Stonelords special. We had an great table (well, the GM was OK, I suppose -- just kidding Luth, you did an awesome job, especially with the "Exhausted" condition....)

The SCARAB folks put on an excellent event and I'm looking forward to next year's SCARAB, hopefully with some GMing thrown in for good measure on my part.

Shadow Lodge 4/5 *

Yes, thanks to the SCARAB crew for making the event special! We'll bring the APL horde down to South Carolina next year, you can be sure.

Also, Check out the well dressed “Reservoir Dogslicers” playing owning Bonekeep III at Scarab 2015. Finished Bonekeep III with 6 minutes left. It was my pleasure to play at such a well prepared team, and such a skilled GM (Here's to you, Nick Baumeister!)

Grand Lodge 4/5 5/5 * Venture-Captain, Mississippi–Hattiesburg

I had a great time this year too! I love the new venue! (I didn't make it last year.) I'm glad we grabbed you John for the Legacy table; it really was... interesting. I think everyone had a good time at their tables this year. I know I did!

And don't forget the Thursday game down at Gamer's Paradise in Flat Rock. I know it's a drive, but this week is The Slave Master's Mirror! It is a fantastic scenario...

Well, overall, I think it is universally listed as the weakest special (feeling more like a series of unconnected scenario snippets that a solid, unified storyline ... and of course, my persona; issue of the "we don't want to break the law" -> "We don't want to break the law much" -> "Just don't kill anybody" transition that the VC goes through in the scenario). That said, folks had a good time. :)

A few quick questions..

I'm signed up for warhorn. Not 100% on how PFS works versus standard pathfinder and I've had no luck finding a group in Waynesville to play a standard campaign so I'm thinking of coming out to Wyvern's Tale and giving PFS play a shot.

What are the character creation differences between standard play and PFS play?

Is it true 12 is the max level you can achieve in PFS play?

Are there restrictions on what my first scenario can be as a new player, aside from level restrictions?

What do I need to bring besides Core Rulebook, dice, and a figurine?

Silver Crusade 3/5 *** Venture-Captain, North Carolina—Asheville

Welcome aboard, Thokar!

I'll do my best to answer your questions below.

1.) I presume you've built Pathfinder characters before. Here are some of the highlights of PFS-specific character building:
- PFS play is built on a 20-point buy standard for ability scores.
- Every character begins play with 150 gold.
- As far as race selection is concerned, players are generally restricted to Core Rulebook races, tengu, nagaji, kitsune, and wayang.
- No evil characters are allowed.
- You may select two traits for your character.
- If you use something from a particular sourcebook, you should bring that book or a watermarked PDF/printout to games (so GM's without the book have access to its rules text).

2.) While the level twelve cap is not technically true, there are precious few opportunities for PFS play beyond that stage. Some modules and adventure path segments are available, and there is a specific 'retirement' arc of four scenarios available to level-twelve characters.

3.) The only restriction on your first scenario is its tier, or allowed level range. Since all PFS characters begin at level one, you should look for a scenario in the tiers 1-2, 1-5, or 1-7 for your first game. You could technically begin with a higher-tier scenario, but you would be restricted to using one of the PFS-approved pregenerated characters instead of a character of your own construction.

4.) We've had players show up for their first game with less than you just listed. If you want to build yourself a character beforehand, have a character sheet (some of us prefer paper, but electronic versions are quite common) filled out. I'd recommend paper and pencil for note-taking.

I look forward to seeing you at the table soon!

Grand Lodge 2/5 Venture-Agent, North Carolina—Waynesville

Outstanding, thank you. That was everything I needed to know. I look forward to scrotum punching some evil doers with you and the rest of the folks down at wyverns tale.

Silver Crusade 3/5 *** Venture-Captain, North Carolina—Asheville

You're welcome. Have you signed up for our lodge's anniversary event on December 19? We've still got plenty of seats available if not.

Grand Lodge 2/5 Venture-Agent, North Carolina—Waynesville

I've not. But I will definitely prep a character and get on that right away. Thanks again for all of the assistance. Looking forward to coming out.
