Many of you young whippersnappers are getting into Pathfinder via "We be goblins" nowadays. Back in my day when the APL was just forming at Blitzkreig (or "The FLGS Which Is No More" as I like to call it), there was none of this cavorting around setting things afire getting eaten by spiders and terrorizing horses. My first Pathfinder scenario was Frostfur Captives masterfully GMed by Dink. After all the other scenarios I've played it is still one of my all time favorites. All I can say is: Woe be it to the Pathfinder who does not treat the bloodthirsty pyromaniacal lunatic Frostfurs with the paranoia they so richly deserve. If you don't love this scenario then you need help.

Yeah, that was a great session. One of the best gaming sessions I've had in 20-odd years of gaming. Dinketry's a great GM, and Frostfur obviously plays to his strengths. Only having four players helped too.

The folks who're playing this tomorrow should be in for a treat.

Sovereign Court

I am a maybe for the 500pm game. Got final layout tweaks for Wayfinder which would take priority. We'll see how things pan out.

Dark Archive 2/5

Liberty's Edge 2/5

Well, that was what can only be characterized as a really successful session of gaming. I hope to see a lot of the new faces around in the future.

That said, I think we're going to have to collaborate a lot better in terms of making sure everyone has a slot and everyone has a game. We had an amazing, nearly overflowing turnout. This is a great problem to have!

Good job, everyone. See you in Absalom!

Lantern Lodge

(( Lies, Twilight Sparkles all the way! ))

Thank you for those who on the fly GMs and those willing to sacrifice to be GMs tonight! ^_^ I know I had a great time with my game and its thrilling to see so many awesome people! Looking forward to next time.

PS. Any information on the T-Shirt stuff would be loved. =P I'd like to look all spiffy and official too!

The Exchange 2/5

This is how it starts, soon the entire board will be bronies.

Anyway, I wanted to show my thanks for all our hardworking GM's. They don't get to play too often, so I would like to run a special module for them alone. Any of our GM's who are interested, and have a character in the level range of 3-5. Can join me at the Wyvern's Tail, at noon on the 30th.

Sovereign Court

Man, I would love to ... I do have a pool party invite for that day, but if it is a later start time, then I am so there!!!

The Exchange 2/5

The time isn't set in stone. So if we get a consensus from the other GM's I'd be all for changing the time, or the date. Just let me know what works best for you guys.

Silver Crusade 4/5

I had a great time last night it was cool to see so many new players and thanks to Aravandor for stepping up and volunteering to run, that was awesome!

Sadly I will be working at noon that day and couldn't make it until 4:30pm...

Random question, can someone explain to me Str/Dex bonus? I know Summoners (What I have) and Druids can get this, but how does it work? The wording is puzzling me.

You get to add the amount shown on the list, depending on what level your Summoner is to your Eidolon's strength and dexterity scores. For a 1st level it should be +0, but at level 2 it becomes +1.

Lantern Lodge

Ok so just to clarify further, if I have the serpentine form and it starts out with a 16 dex and 12 str, it gets a 17 dex and 13 str at level 2?

And thank you!! ^_^

That's my understanding of the rule.

You're welcome.

Liberty's Edge

Amazing game tonight! And I'm really happy to see that kind of turnout!

It's getting to the point where we might really had to set up our up website with places to sign up for tables. Like you said up there, this is a great problem to have!

Also, Bovie(sp) and Goon FTW

Liberty's Edge 2/5

It's spelled Buliwyf, but pronounced BOOL-vi.

And I think it might be time for us to start creating a Warhorn for each event. The good part about that is that it will be more structured, but the bad part is that it leaves no real room for walk-ups and new players to get involved.

Scarab Sages 1/5

Yeah, I don't know what the answer is to the incredible turn out of new players showing up every week. In my experience, while warhorn can be a good solution for some, others find it hard/confusing to use and give up. I don't know what the answer is, but I think even if we have a warhorn setup every two weeks, we'd still have to have some flexibility for walk-ups and people who can't be bothered.

I think a lot of it is going to be up to the guys who have been here from the beginning, and as much as we've relied on a few GMs before, we need to expand that base of GMs until this crop of fresh blood is comfortable enough to GM. I'm having a really great time with it, and I'm so glad The Wyvern's Tale opened when they did. Its an awesome venue to run a lot of tables!

On the T-shirt front, I was going to try and hold off sending in another order until October for Asheville Comic Expo, but if we can get 20 people who want shirts (or an order of 20 shirts if some people want two) we could still keep the price down to $10 a shirt. To make it easier, send me a private message on here, and I'll start collecting orders. Thanks again to Aravandor for the awesome art! Once we get up to 20 shirts ordered, I'll get the order placed, and we should have them two weeks after that. Just send me a message with how many you want and what size. XXL and XXXL are $11.

Liberty's Edge 2/5

In that case, how about we suggest that every veteran player (that is, let's arbitrarily say, someone who has played or GMed a total of 15 PFS games) should be ready to pull the trigger on a game that can be run for levels 1-5 at any time. That's extra work for us, I know, but it would also mean that we would have the capacity to disengage as a player and make extra table space for new players.

Myself, I can always run We Be Goblins and I'm sure there are others who can always run an Intro Module or some other game that gives credit. I'll also prepare a few others that I can run in my sleep. If everyone has a fallback, we can coordinate who and what to give the new players extra opportunities.

Ideas? Criticisms? Questions?

Silver Crusade 1/5

I just downloaded the free modules, and was going to offer to try to run one next weekend as a test to see how they go if anyone is interested, it looks like they are for first levels or the scarlet sun looks like 4-6 if I am reading it right

Sovereign Court

Well, not sure about 15 being a mandatory target, but folks who have played a good bit, have a good grasp on the rules and, most importantly, feel comfortable with trying something new, should definitely give GMing a shot.

Silver Crusade 5/5

Hey kiddos!,

Glad to hear that the event this weekend was a success. I am always happy to run something if needed and I always have about 5 scenarios prepped on my laptop, so any night I'm there you have a backup GM if I'm not already GMing.

I will be at the next session on the 7th and I am happy to GM unless we have plenty... :) Goooo APL.

Also, Thorynn do they have dates for the Asheville Comic Expo?

Peace,
Luth

P.S. My homebrew group! you know who you are... I'll be sending emails out tonight... CHECK YOUR EMAIL... be ready for Sunday July 1st all day game fest at WT

Lantern Lodge

I'll try to start learning the rules better so I can start learning how to GM then, I maybe new but if I keep paying attention y'all might get a future GM so that others can play. ^_^;

Liberty's Edge 2/5

focus on playing for now- no one is going to be pushing folks into GMing unless they decide it's something they really want to. We already have a rotation of about 6 or 7 regular GMs, it's just a question of making sure we have enough of them at any given event to meet the demand.

Luthril wrote:

No date set in stone, other than sometime in October. GeekOut wasn't really nailed down until about a month out either. We'll just have to keep our eyes peeled for news about it.

It's a good idea that our regulars always have a scenario prepped and that for the time being we always have at least one tier 1 or 1-2 table on offer. We should also all have a couple blank character sheets on us for walk-ins. I'm working on a basic character creation flow-chart style guide for those wanting to make a character at a meeting. I'm working on this myself and I'll be trying to put together a list of traits for new players. Here's the first page of a basic character creation guide that I've got so far: Character Creation Quick Start Guide

Internet HUG... you rock man!

Dark Archive 3/5

I tend to have plenty of blank character sheets with me when I come, so I can share some with new players.

The Exchange 2/5

So I was thinking a 5PM start time for any GM's that wanna come and play the module I'm running on the 30th. After reading though it, the group should be done by 10:30, or 11.
What do you think?

Silver Crusade 5/5

I'm there... :)

Sounds great, I'm there. :D I'll probably play a healer (only characters in that lvl range) it's either monkey of turban...

The S.C.A.R.A.B. guys have little packets they hand to New players to assist in character creation. I love your plane for a step-by-step guide, I suggest we also include a copy of the Guide to Pathfinder Society Organized Play and trait guide.

Agreed. As an FYI, WT is willing to print out stuff for us as needed for $0.25 per page (I covered 10 character sheets on Saturday and they are holding them on file as needed ... we may be down to 6 copies though).

Which brings me to another idea. It would be a good idea to keep a stocked supply of PC sheets, Event sheets, a copy of the Guide to Organized Play and copies of the Intro adventures (along with copies of the chronicle sheets and what not) at WT if they are willing to store them for us. This should give us a solid fall back for 1st level new players without everyone having to haul around the three free Scenarios and would keep those forms we will regularly need on hand.

if theres spots, id love to come play the game on the 30th and i'll drag aly with me

I've got 3 of the 5 spots taken, and I'm giving the GM's first pick on joining this game. If none of the others ask to join by Thursday and the ones that are already playing are fine with it, then sure.

Scarab Sages

ok, if its a gm game then I call out to the rest, is anyone interested in running a separate game aside from theirs?
I dread throwing this out but, the 30th is my birthday and I'd like to spend it with friends.

The Exchange 2/5

At noon I could run Citadel of Flame for any 1st or 2nd levels.

Silver Crusade 1/5

I will run one of the intros at noon and a second at 5

Its been an awesome month for gaming, but I think I'll have to take the 30th off, or my wife will kill me. I should be in town for the 7th tho.

that would be awesome. Also I am going to start runing season 1 if people are interested

Liberty's Edge

I am currently working on building up my materials to become a GM a little more frequently. Right now, MOST of my finances are being saved for a move I'm going to have to make at the end of July, but after that, I can work on collecting materials and modules and minis and such

Until then, I can become something of an official GM for Intro 1 and 2 for new players, if you all would like. Those are fairly easy for me to run, as I know them, and they're not terribly rules-intensive, and I'm always a fan of creating new characters (to apply GM credit to) as well as helping newer players with their own.

I'll try to get some PDFs and begin bringing my laptop to all the games from now on.

If I start doing this, though, would one of you veteran GMs mind sitting down with me before a session and going over how all the society reporting and crediting for sheets works and such? I admit I have not done a lot of reading on the subject, but I'd pick it up better by having someone go through the process with me.

Credits for this past Saturday have been logged. Check with me if you have any questions.

I'd be happy to work with APL GMs on session records/credits. It's a fun thing to do once you've got it down, or maybe that's just the closet accountant in me.

I will not be around this week, and I'll be hanging with zylphryx next week in Redmond, WA, so Vaya Con Desna all those who will be rocking out in the meantime. It has been fun.

Aravandor, you're a prince of a Pathfinder for putting together a quick-start guide. It's a grand idea, as well as stashing a few PFS guides (print-outs) at WT for APL use. I will say that wrangling four completely new people to PFS could have pushed game-start back until 6PM on Saturday if you and StrangePackages hadn't helped out. So danke schoen to the both of you.

Asheville Lodge doors are closed for now, but always open for those who know the secret knock.

Cheers,
Dink

Need help here guys. I haven't yet registered my table from Saturday 's game. I have credit as GM. How do i get credit for my players? I've viewed the event but as far as i can tell it's closed now.

Liberty's Edge 2/5

Just as a thought- I know several folks, like Arvandor, Leej and Goon, come from far over the mountains. Have you guys considered carpooling?

Grand Lodge 5/5 * Venture-Captain, New Zealand—Dunedin

Aravandor, I got all your info and entered it already.

Check it out here and let me know if I need to make changes.

Thanks!

Scarab Sages

Cool, I have a lvl 2 fighter and lvl 1 rogue. If it's a higher lvl campaign I don't mind using a pregen.

We'll see you on the 30th at noon
and thanks guys, I appreciate you posting games. =D

Granyt wrote:

I'm interested in playing in the 5pm one for certain, and possibly the noon one too. Been wanting to play the Intro series for ages, and they seem like they'd be good for getting back up to speed with Pathfinder after playing nothing but Xenoblade the last couple of months.

Am I right in remembering that I'll need a character which hasn't been played in any non-Intro scenarios?

Liberty's Edge 2/5

Everyone-

I just had a very productive talk with our illustrious Venture Captain, DCII, and he gave me a lot of really good advice for how we can try and continue to grow our Pathfinder Lodge while still offering a great experience for the established and new gamers alike. We're going to have to get a little more coordinated and organized, but the potential benefits are going to be totally worth it.

First, if you consider yourself a GM as much as a player (folks like Dink, Jake, Stu, Zylph, Thorynn, Luthril, Arvandor, and QC) then we're going to need to try to coordinate a little further in advance what games we're going to be playing. If we can give DCII a heads up 4 weeks in advance of a session in which we intend to have 5 games to run, and can nail down who is running what, then he can get us FREE SCENARIOS. This will require more organization on all our parts, but could pay off HUGE in the long run.

Secondly, we need to make a concerted effort to always an Intro Mod running at every lodge meeting. This will help us bring new GMs and Players up to speed, and ensure we have a space for newcomers and first timers to enjoy Pathfinder.

Finally, DCII confirmed that Zylph knows what he's talking about. If you have run a game, or want to, get you a copy of Kobald Quarterly 17 (hereinafter KQ 17) and the short game in that. It's a great, fast, dirty scenario that can be pulled at a moment's notice for newcomers or overflow. That'll allow us to crack folks away from games if necessary to make sure that folks who want a seat can have a sear.

I'm really really pleased with how well this lodge is thriving in the friendly soil of the Wyvern's Tale, but this is hopefully only the beginning. With a little leg work, which you guys have already demonstrated you don't mind doing, we have the chance to have something special!

I hope to see you all at future events (perhaps, after Paizocon, which I know we're going to have a couple folks attending), so that we can better coordinate how to make the APL one of the pre-eminent Lodges in all of the Pathfinder Society.

Keep Pathfidner Weird, ya'll!
