Necromancy Advice

Advice

I play a divine necromancer (cleric lvl 8, Undead Lord UM Archetype) right now, and I was wondering what kind of options there are for necromancers as far as things like prestige classes go. I've got the Player's Guide, Advanced Player's Guide, Ultimate Magic, and Ultimate Combat for resource material, and of course anything the Internet might have to offer. I've also a multitude of DnD 3.5 books (Libris Mortis included), if that helps.

Anyway, I've looked and looked and can't seem to find a whole lot concerning expanding my character's necromantic prowess. I have enough knowledge to pick the right spells, feats, and all that, but I feel like there could be more.

If anyone can offer any insight, I'd love to hear it and would appreciate it to no end! Oh, and I've looked into the Agent of the Grave PrC and my GM won't let me use it for some reason. My necromancer is also not evil. Just neutral. :p

This may or may not be of any use to you since you're a divine necromancer, but there's an arcane White Necromancer class in Kobold Quarterly #19 that has some really nice variations on the theme for non-evil characters. Some of it might be friendly for mining for your character, specifically the ability to make all undead creating spell lose the [Evil] tag(unless that's been houseruled out in your campaign already), adding alternate means to raise undead, and some really nifty, if risky at times, healing options that work on both the living and undead through sacrificing your own hp.

Not sure how much of this should be spoilered, so...

Spoiler:
In Broken Moon (3rd book of Carrion Crown) there's a prestige class called Agent of Whispers that specializes in necromancy. That's probably your best option, though it does require serving the Whispering Way for 1 year in it's requirements. This could be dropped by your DM, but you'll have to justify why you're gaining this prestige class instead of continuing as an Undead Lord.

Well if 3.5 is open you have alot to look at...

Optional Alt. class{FYI}: Dread necromancer from Heroes of Horror
- very flavorful + at 16th Lv (i think) you become a lich.
Dread Necro Handbook

Undead leadership (Libris Mortis)feat
- Nice Cohort + your Undead Lord archetype gives you another cohort

Leadership feat
- Cohort is a Undead Lord archetype w/undead leadership

Fell Animate feat

Create Reliquary Arms and Shields feat
- Prerequisites: Craft Magic Arms and Armor, ability to cast consecrate or desecrate.

Benefit: When you craft a magic weapon, magic armor, or magic shield, you may add one casting of consecrate or desecrate as part of the item crafting process. The item becomes a reliquary and can be used as a holy (or unholy) symbol divine focus of your deity. If you cast consecrate or desecrate, your reliquary counts as a permanent fixture for that spell while it remains in the spell's area.

Desecrate Spell
This spell imbues an area with negative energy. The DC to resist negative channeled energy within this area gains a +3 profane bonus. Every undead creature entering a desecrated area gains a +1 profane bonus on all attack rolls, damage rolls, and saving throws. An undead creature created within or summoned into such an area gains +1 hit points per HD.

If the desecrated area contains an altar, shrine, or other permanent fixture dedicated to your deity or aligned higher power, the modifiers given above are doubled (+6 profane bonus to negative channeled energy DCs, +2 profane bonus and +2 hit points per HD for undead created in the area).

Furthermore, anyone who casts animate dead within this area may create as many as double the normal amount of undead (that is, 4 HD per caster level rather than 2 HD per caster level).

If the area contains an altar, shrine, or other permanent fixture of a deity, pantheon, or higher power other than your patron, the desecrate spell instead curses the area, cutting off its connection with the associated deity or power. This secondary function, if used, does not also grant the bonuses and penalties relating to undead, as given above

Prestige Class
- True Necromancer (Tomb and Blood) I believe its a 14 th level PRC that can be entered either as divine or arcane.

Magic Items
- Mace of the Dark Children, +1 adamantine heavy mace, +3 profane bonus on rebuke checks(3.5), you are treated as 2 levels higher for how many HD of undead you can rebuke. 8,012gp MIC 53.

This is incredibly helpful! Especially the Create Reliquary Arms and Armor feat. It'll take a couple of levels, but I'll definitely be taking full advantage of that.

As far as 3.5 content goes, we've been going with a case-by-case basis. Ie: We see things in 3.5 supplements and then ask if that would be okay. Most of the time, it's fine, but there are those instances were we're not sure how much retooling 3.5 stuff might need.

As far as the Agent of the Grave goes, I'm thinking that might be the only option I really have (other than 20 levels of cleric!), and it might be easy to work in. It is a homebrew world and my character does come from a place where necromancy is accepted, encouraged, and practiced openly. So...we'll see.

Anyway, thanks for the help guys!
