Really Stupid Question About Cross Class Skills

Rules Questions

So for skills that cannot be used untrained, can a character pick that skill up by simply puttinv ranks in it? Or would they have to multiclass in order to do it?

There is no cross class anymore, as all classes can choose any given skill.

Classes that have that skill gain a +3 bonus on a skill IF they put ranks into it.

For skills that cannot be used 'untrained', any class can put 1 point in that skill and be trained (and able to use it).

Yes, you can simply put ranks into it. The only diffidence between class skills and non-class skills would be the one time +3 you gain for taking a class skill.

That is what I thought. I had house-ruled for a while that in order to get a skill your class was not traditionally trained in (e.g. A Fighter wanting to pick up Disable Device, or a Barbarian wanting Linguistics) you had to find a trainer and invest in time and possibly gold. (The gold was usually circumvented by a party member doing the teaching.) But it occurred to me I may be doing that for no reason or breaking some sort of rule as you weren't supposed to be able to use trained class skills anyway.
