Zombie Sky Press

1 person marked this as a favorite.

It's my birthday, and I'm giving stuff away. (That's how it works, right?)

I'm considering what to work on next year for Zombie Sky Press, and I'm always looking for new and interesting challenges. So for Thursday only, I would love to hear what you want to see in RPGs. What would set your mind ablaze?

What system would you prefer: Pathfinder, 4E, Fate, an original game system, other? What content would you like to see? What would excite you? Could be something to do with existing lines or something altogether different.

Three posters, chosen by me, will receive free copies of all the PDFs that ZSP has already published or the next three releases free, your choice.

(You can also post on Facebook and Google+.)

Game on!

First of all: Happy Birthday and congratulations on the great work!

With regards to the question:

I would love to see for Pathfinder:
-Aztec-style jungle-settings/adventures.
-High magic Africa-themed adventures/sourcebooks (E.g. Asathi-class?)
-Sourcebooks on campaign-changing elements like meteorites/god deaths/ floods/ plagues etc. - I loved Malhavoc press's 3.5 event books.
-Good HIGH-LEVEL Investigation/Mystery adventures, preferably with time-travel and similar elements
-More Gothic Horror adventures. (Ravenloft fanboy speaking) ;)
-Mature content (like Sinister once planned, perhaps with its own label)
-Fey adventures, preferably high-level - nice synergy with Along the Twisted Way

Additional Trail of Cthulhu support is also great, especially with Lorefinder just around the corner - after all, the GUMSHOE-system rocks and both systems should be similar...

Happy Birthday Scott, and a Happy Un-birthday to us!

I really enjoyed the Incantations in Theory and Practice and Incantatons from the Other Side, and would like to see more products in this line for Pathfinder - maybe something fleshing out high magic (enochian magic) or and a take on more classic ritual spells from the standard spell list. I could also see using it in a Magic School setting - this way all the PCs could be any class but all have access to magic.
And I can dig some high level love too.

Thanks for listening and have a great day!

Happy Birthday!

As to what to do in the next year. I would say that mostly Pathfinder and/or something completly own (D&D 4E seems to be less supportive of 3PP and of Fate I have only a very basic knowledge).

Settings that present exotic worlds, exotic cultures, especially ones that are as little based on real world cultures as possible would be nice. And if they are to be based on real world cultures then let it be something different than pseudo-medieval, pseudo-celtic, pseudo-viking or pseudo-japan elements that are sooo overused.

Sourcebooks for campaign changing events proposed by Endzeitgeist are good idea.

One point on which I have to seriously disagree with Endzeitgeist is time travel elements. I say decisive no to time travel as it is rarely done well and usually creates more problems than fun.

Impassioned writing and design is often the best. Do what you think would be best.

Hint: Pathfinder.

Happy birthday Scott!

I think most of whatEnd detailed sounds good - I really like the idea of Sourcebooks on campaign-changing elements like meteorites/god deaths/ floods/ plagues etc.

As for system, as far as I'm concerned, I would stick with Pathfinder! :)

Liberty's Edge

Happy Birthday!

I'm only interested in Pathfinder and/or Shadowrun 4e rules sets. Okay, well maybe exalted to.

I would love to see a fantasy post apocolyptic (think scarred lands meets dark sun) setting.

I would also love to see a steampunk campaign setting for pathfinder. (I love iron kingdoms, but there's soooo many nit pick rules hidden throughout the books they're a pain.) Even better if it has a lot of horror elements in it.

Honestly, I say campaign settings, but they wouldn't have to be full campaign settings, a 20 - 30 page book of fluff with just a few rules ideas would be great.

A point based system for getting rid of the big 6 magic items so that pcs rely more on their own abilities rather than magic items.

ShadowcatX, you might want to check this out. I'm looking forward to the setting...

When I work on products, I try to find a niche that hasn't been explored yet, and develop that.

For example, what can someone do with Profession checks? Maybe a short PDF on that. (Rite's 101 New Skill Uses doesn't contain any, as a design decision)

Vehicle building rules!

Non-magical weapon augmentations.

I'd first like to say happy birthday!

To answer the question, I'd love to see more Pathfinder material. In particular, I'd like to see more work done on handling world-changing events. Not just things on the order of the Avatars Crisis or Spellplague, but also from a political aspect. What does it mean when a new king is crowned, or a new church is formed. Of course, flaming meteors and dying gods are always good, as is the occasional zombie apocalypse :) Good high-level (15+) adventures are good too. Finally, a fey sourcebook would be awesome as well. Something along the lines of Paizo's Books of the Damned perhaps, maybe something else more like the Companion series.

Happy Birthday, Scott!

I like drop-in settings and locations, monsters (can never have enough monsters--even with the gigantic Tome of Horrors out), short adventures, planar material, and a fey sourcebook. I vote for Pathfinder as the game system.

That and non-magical armor augmentations! Plus magical augmentations that have a base gold value assigned instead of a modifier (ie +1).

I agree with a lot of what End likes with a few changes/additions.

I would love to see for Pathfinder:

-More Gothic Horror adventures.
-Mature content (like Sinister once planned, perhaps with its own label)
-Fey adventures and information, perhaps rules for different types of changelings, feytemplates, fey influenced feats etc character options. As well as adventures, setting information etc. - I really like all things fey.
- Slavic influenced adventures/setting stuff.
- Native American theme adventure source books.
- Magic school setting/adventures.

Any and all of the above would work for me.

Scarab Sages

I would dig:
- More planar source material
- Native American(ish) source material
- Fantasy Pulp
- a society class/race group based on the 3.5 Warlock
- Martial Arts source material (down to earth and wuxia types)

p.s. Hippo Birdy Two Ewes!

-Faerie-themed archetypes for all classes
-Sacred Warriors for all alignments
-Shapechanging berserkers
-Conversions of the mythological system all around the world
-Real-world historic campaigns, like medieval Europe witch-hunt, Renaissance, Inquisition, French Revolution... and The Return of Magic in 21th Century!!!

Happy birthday!

Here Be Monsters: Aching for Blood (Mosquitofolk) looks very interesting to me. I haven't picked it up yet but I most likely will. I think I would enjoy similar products.

My biggest suggestion though has less to do with content and more to do with format. I have never been a big fan of pdf products and that is what has so far stopped me from actually picking up Aching for Blood despite how cool it looks. I just don't tend to use a pdf like I would a book. So, if it is in any way feasible I wouldn't mind seeing this and other products in print - even if it is done through POD.

Happy birthday Scott! Hopefully you're celebrating and laying plans for embracing undeath many birthdays hence. ;-)

What would I really like to see? Well, there are a few things:

I'd love to see an adventure meant for an evil-aligned party of PCs. I keep imagining an adventure where a party of evil characters has been hired to attack a small hamlet and capture the villagers for some reason (e.g. a local cult wants to make a big series of sacrifices). It could be quite an adventure, with the logistics between how to plan the attack, how to capture the people, safely transporting them to be dropped off, etc. I think it'd be a lot of fun!

Another very cool idea, a Pathfinder-compatible mini-game for creating your PC! Too often, making a character is seen as game-prep, rather than as part of the game (particularly with point-buy ability score generation eclipsing random ability score generation)), so let's make character-gen fun again! This would be a sort of mini-game where a new soul has to decide what sort of person it's going to be in life, passing through a series of "trials" where it's decisions influence who it'll be - which decides its game stats (e.g. selecting race, then class, then skills, then feats, etc.). I think that'd be an awesome idea.

A third idea - and this one is harder to describe - a sourcebook/supplement that creates a reliable rubric for advancement (that is, gaining XP) besides killing things. That is, a new formula for gaining experience that the players (as opposed to the PCs) can work towards, and thus shifting the tone of the game. This is important because players need clearly-outlined methods for advancement so they have something to work towards, rather than GM-prerogative "handouts" like story awards that can't be anticipated ahead of time. Obviously, this is a rough idea, but I think it could be done quite well.

Those are my three ideas; hopefully they're worth three of your company's fantastic books!

Happy Birthday
I would say Pathfinder for system preference.
I would like to see a system or set of guidelines where everyone has a zero level commoner, and based on their actions, a single base class or type of class is recommended. I would also like if there were more zero level adventures. Or perhaps a life path system for character back story similar to the Battle Tech RPG MechWarrior.

Happy Birthday!

Would love to see someone tackle something like The 3.5 Tome of Battle for pathfinder rules.
If thats a bit much there is always a need for more good Steampunk material.

I know that one company is working on something like that. Current name is "ToB without the suck" or something like that.

Happy birthday.
I know it is not Thursday, but I still have an idea. :)

There is a game called Iron Heroes. I would like something similar(no magic/low magic). The catch is that I still want to use Pathfinder monsters with it to a large extent. I know increasing the monster CR may have to happen at times, but that is good enough for most of us that want the system.

Hiya Scott! Hope you had a good b'day, and also that ZSP is keeping you busy after all the fun of KQ...

I double up on the following:
*Slavic/Kalevala setting themed stuff for PF.
*Zero-level "starter" scenarios, or "civilian becomes adventurer through skills and pitchforks" adventures. (PF)
*Sacred warriors for all alignments - like the garath, lyan, arrikhan, myrikhan, illrigger, fantra paremander non LG paladins from old school Dragon Magazine. (PF)

Oceanshieldwolf wrote:

Sorry to jump in, but I just happen to be putting the final touches on EXACTLY such an adventure for Tricky Owlbear - it will tie in with their Learning Curve: Apprentice-Level Characters

Back to the thread already in progress :)

I would get behind exotic themed settings with Aztec/African/planar flavor. It does my heart good to see a lot of people talking about a Native American setting; I have been toying with that idea for a LONG time. I am also up for creative, well thought out adventures, both short and more epic sized (Mine clock in at 25+pages..old school I guess..lol)

Scarab Sages

I'm always looking for modules or scenarios for levels 1 - 3 that are Pathfinder-compatible.

Scott Gable wrote:

Happy Birthday!

I would say lets see some more PF stuff. Here's some ideas:

Stick with your name! Perhaps more undead things. Zombie Sky makes me think Zombies raining from the sky, but maybe weird undead weather phenomenons (poison rains that turn people to zombies)?

Embrace Paizos push into outer space (with their Distant Worlds book coming up)! Full rules for magic powered spaceships? Giant Zombie Space Hulks (I guess I'm fixated on your name), or other terrors that roam space.

Embrace the Asian influences that Paizo are pushing right now even more, you already have done some work in PF for Asian things keep going with them. New Oni will certainly be welcome. Perhaps a book of Asian Themed Archetypes. We have a bunch of selections already, but there are always more options possible.

IDK, just letting my mind run! Good luck!

So I have to ask...have winners been chosen?

If not, I nominate myself, myself, and AM BARBARIAN.

Also, he hasn't updated his twitter account since this posting.

Zombie Sky Press

Thanks, everyone! I appreciate all the suggestions. I'm looking over everyone's words carefully, and I'll announce the winners tomorrow. :D

Zombie Sky Press

There were so many great suggestions and choosing winners was very difficult! (One winner has been chosen from each of the posting sites: here, Google+, and Facebook.)

In the end, I had to go with the suggestions that had the most resonance with me. Endzeitgeist is the winner from this post with several rich ideas to explore.

I think you've reviewed all our products to date, End, so I'm assuming you want the next three? ;D You can email me at slgable(at)zombiesky(dot)com.

And to everyone, there is more The Faerie Ring, more incantations, and more surprises on the way. And for those who mentioned meteors and cataclysmic events, scifi and steampunk, you should definitely check out It Came from the Stars and its follow up projects.
