Frog God Games

Please spread the word on this one as much as possible, folks. We don't want anyone missing out on this bad boy!

A cross-section showing the 50ish dungeon levels NEEDS to be a preview for this bad boy.

+1!!!

Oh, and can we buy a map pack for this too? Or make it a POD?

I say crank it up to 1200 by adding Wizard's Amulet, Crucible of Freya and Tomb of Abysthor to the thing. :)

or sell this as a separate volume - I got back into D&D via Wizard's Amulet -> Crucible of Freya. This campaign is as nostalgic as The Keep on the Borderlands.

By the way folks, Wizard's Amulet is a free PDF that you can still get!

And there's a few of Necromancer's products availible as Print On Demand from DriveThruRPG.

SOLD!

Just added a sticky note to my monitor to make me giddy and anxious for the next 5 or so months =)

Keep thinking along the WA/COB/Bard's Gate/Aby line/Barakus...I am looking at that as another huge book later--not ready to pull the trigger yet, but looking at it. A "Necro-world" series of some sort. What all would people like to see in that?

You mean a campaign setting book? Or more of some of the old Necro adventures linked and updated to PFRPG? Honestly not positive what you are asking.

If its a campaign setting kind of book, I would be interested. More information would be very useful in running the adventures set in that world.

Frog God Games

This is straight from Frog God's Pathfinder RPG conversion specialist/artist, Skeeter Green:

"The new Pathfinder version is already looking awesome! The nPCs are getting reworked, many new feats and spells available from all the books pathfinder has put out, good good fun!

And scary, did I mention scary? May even be better then previous versions......"

A Necro setting campaign guide would be the best thing since sliced bread and peanut butter. It would be my new default gaming world.

While I love that FGG seems to be expanding the loose campaign setting that Necromancer Games created, to be honest, past Rappan Athuk, I'd rather see FGG focus on creating it's own new additions to that setting, rather than becoming the Necromancer reprint publisher, as some people seem to want.

Necromancer Games produced some brilliant stuff. But that stuff is pretty compatible with Pathfinder as-is, and some of the same people work for Frog God Games. So I'd like to rally for more NEW Frog God Games stuff.

That being said, I'm a sucker for FGG and NG stuff, and buy the PF and S&W versions of whatever you guys put out. If all you do for the next few years is reprint all the old Necromancer Games stuff, I'll be slightly disappointed, but I'll also probably grab it up.

And damn it, I can't seem to get the Crystal Skull anywhere, so there is that....

Yeah Bill has his copies up on the Necromancer Games store on Ebay I know. Also a bunch of new copies on Amazon.

I would like to see a) hardback compilations of the various aforementioned products b) new products set in the same milieu, expanding on the areas or linking them in to more recent Frog God books, and c) some form of campaign setting guide. Oh, and let's have a sequel or two to some of the Necro modules while we're at it.

Don't worry. While we may hit old NG titles as there is demand for them, we'll keep doing new stuff too. Ideally it'll remain compatible. I'd love to see a Necro-Frog campaign setting myself.

A Necro-Frog...Sounds absolutely Lovecraftian. Could this be a preview of a new creature? Undead amphibians could become a cult favorite...

As someone who purchased the original three RA adventures and then 2 copies of the Rappan Athuk Reloaded boxed set (one for my do-not-touch shelf and one for actual table use), all I'm gonna say is
.
.
.
Hell yes I'm buying a Pathfinder version of this thing. I've DM'ed and played in RA campaigns...simply put, it's one of the greatest dungeon settings of all time, IMO.

Now I'm thinking about converting Crucible of Freya and Bard's Gate so that, come Gencon 2012 (I'm assuming that's when the new Rappan Athuk would be released), I'd have a complete Pathfinder/FGG campaign ready to go.

Also, what are we calling this new version if the Original is Rappan Athuk (RA) and the 3.5 revision was Rappan Athuk Reloaded (RARE)?

Anyway, finding this announcement was the highlight of my day, for sure.

Good gaming to all,

rappan athuk re-reloaded (bonus points for getting the reference without clicking the link.)

EXXXTREME Rappan Athuk!!! (XRA)

Frog God Games

well...we did make 30+ new books this last 2 years...RA is just, well, in demand.

Crystal Skull is a tough one; I have a "few", but all the original files are lost--so i cant make more or even sell pdfs.

Frog God Games

ps--the name is simply "Rappan Athuk". Cover is faux leather, no cover art, engraved in gold (or red maybe?) is the name.

my current thoughts at least

So much content is killing my wallet. I missed Necromancer in the 3.x era so all this stuff is new to me, but I do want it. Looking forward to hopefully having money during the pre-order period.

Oooh boy. You guys sure are on a roll...

Speaking of RAR, one question: What about the Golden Tickets from RAR? Will they be honored if they turn up?

I would love to see these updated, but, ugh, I just bought CoF and ToA.

Geez I was hoping NOT to be broke in 2012.

Thanks A LOT.

Well lets just say I'll keep an eye on how this goes... Not quite sure yet, not having experienced RA previously.

What I always thought was great about Rappan Athuk was that it was not really set in a world, but one you could just drop in and run with in your own campaign. Sure, there were great cities mentioned nearby, but I could place them, too, if I wanted to fit my setting.

That's been one of the great things writing for Bill for Frog God Games, in that Gary and I have been able to develop our own setting and just flesh it out with the Splinters of Faith modules. It's nothing official for Frog God Games, but it allows us to set things in a "world" that the GM can use or adapt to his own setting. We made use of a lot of the same place names for the lairs in the Tome of Horrors Complete and are using the Splinters lands again in a series of n'gathau adventures we're writing now.

So I'm with you Kthulhu on the new stuff, and we're writing as fast as we can to get some new Frog God books out there for you all.

But it's still great to see the classics come back with more and better additions to spice them up for current gamers.

Don't get me wrong, I love the old stuff, and especially seeing S&W versions is amazingly cool. I guess I just noticed that it seemed that so many posters have been clamoring for old NG stuff without mentioning any of the newer FGG stuff...I wanted to balance that out a bit.

I agree that it would be cool to see the Necro / Frog God world wrapped up into a campaign setting.

If there ever was a more applicable image it's this one:

You make this into some sort of unholy tome of evil and destruction and I will buy it. I will preorder it, and I will tell all my evil DM friends they must do the same for what is contained inside this tome of vile chaos is nothing short of amazing. Open the pandora's box of MegaDungeon and be amazed.

@Leopold,

Fixed it for you,here.

AAAAAAAAA!!! I bought the pdf of RARE awhile ago but when Tome of Horrors complete came out it made me break down and buy a RARE POD! And with Tsar and now this I think I've just converted to the Frog God!
All praise mighty Tsathoggua!! (by the way I need to invest in a steel shelf to hold all this gaming goodness!)

I would love this to be released at PaizoCon 2012! And Im working very hard to make this happen, but we'll see.

BTW, just got word about an additional element to the new RA project, I cant say much about it right now, but it does involved someone with the initials RS doing some work for us.....

Sardinha?

Not sure of the spelling.

Need Eamonvale/Grey Citadel btw.
Just sayin. :)

Bill - I did manage to get one. Have you ever thought about sacfificing one copy to the scanner gods and having a scanned-image PDF? I know it's not an ideal solution, what with the quality being much lower than a PDF built from the original electronic files, but it would get the module out there in digital format for people who can't find a print copy.

Skeeter,

While you're at it, in your 'spare time', could you knock out 'Lost City of Barakus', 'Trouble at Durbenford', and 'Tomb of Abysthor'?

That'd be super :)

Just kidding.

But not really.

Fingers and toes crossed for a Gencon 2012 RA release.

Good gaming to all,

Just curious -- will the Pathfinderized version be adjusted in terms of balance (in the case of creatures that are tougher or weaker in PFRPG, say, like dragons) or will it just be literally translated (e.g. a Young Adult Red Dragon in the 3E version is still a Young Adult Red Dragon in the PFRPG version)?

Add me to the list for interest in a CoF/Abysthor PFRPG remix. CoF with the web enhancements was one of my favorite 3E campaigns even if we TPK'ed in VoLK afterwards. :)

I will pick up RA this time after passing on the reloaded box. Also would love to see Barakus and anything Eamonvale. BTW, What has Nate been up to, and why isnt he doing anything at FGG? Grey Citadel ranks pretty damn high for me when I think about the best stuff from 3E/3.5.

I'm not translating it but the original has no sense of balance itself (which is what so many love about it, myself included) so I don't know if taking that kind of thing into consideration will make a significant difference.

I think saying "no sense of balance" is wrong (there aren't any CR 20 monsters or DC 50 Search checks on the first level, for instance). I'd probably say it has an idiosyncratic sense of balance instead. :-)

Anyways, I was just wondering if it was being given the quick-'n'-dirty translation (which might end up with badasses being turned into pipsqueaks, or vice versa) or a more methodical rewrite.

Contributor

I'm lucky enough to be one of the designers working on the conversion. While I obviously can't give specific details (because then Skeeter will get mad at me, and nobody wants to see Skeeter get mad), what I can say is that we're not doing what you describe as "quick-'n'-dirty." We're putting in a lot of effort to keep the feel of the encounters as close to the original as possible, even when that results in more work. The level of teamwork that's taken place so far to that end has been fantastic.

RA will remain just as deadly - maybe even slightly more so. And I feel quite confident in saying that everybody who was a badass in the original will be a badass in the PF version. Make sure your characters kiss their loved ones goodbye before heading down the well!

*Looks around*

Whazzup? You guys think we're going soft or something? Getting a little easier in our (generally) old age?

I take offense! Difficulty level going up a notch or two! Whatchu think about that!

In fact, Im sooooooo offended, I may just talk to the Frog Almighty and see if I can post a partial conversion, just to stuff that in your pipe and smoke it! Say, maybe just before the holidays....I may even tell you which holiday...what about that...huh...tough guy!!!

<The above message is firmly tongue in cheek, just in case nobody noticed. Im relatively harmless, ......ish.>

In all honesty, if I dont see someone post "Holy Cow! Are these guys crazy?" about this conversion, I will consider it a failure. The iconic bad guys from RA are being treated like favorite children, and we are collectively pulling out the stops to give them every bit as much firepower as any PC combination.

That said, we're not cheating or munchinizing them (well, not much). We have maximized Paizo's kind gift of Ultimate books and the APG, and are using everything the PCs have on their side against them.

There will always be players who can outsmart the writers, and make PC builds that defy logic, but for the most part, if you have a good group that likes to explore dungeons, kill monsters, and save the loot, this is a product for you!

DONT GO DOWN THE WELL! IM NOT KIDDING! YOU"LL JUST DIE!

This question isn't really specific to this product, I guess but it does apply.

Why do preorders get announced with a future date? Why not accept preorders now (given that the decision to make it seems to have been made)?

I presume there's a good reason, but it seems odd to me to basically say "we're going to make this product and you can order it ahead of time....in a little while".

Well, one of the reasons would be that we don't have a final price worked out yet. Bill did mention a ball-park figure but we don't even have a final page count yet which means that we cannot get an estimate on printing costs.

So why are we announcing it now instead of later when we have a final price and folks can pre-order? Because we want people to know that it's on the way and being worked on. :D

See, I knew there was a good reason. I didn't really think about the fact that you don't know all the details yet. Cheers.
