Raging Swan Press: New Iconics!

Product Discussion

Sovereign Court Raging Swan Press

I'm in the process of finishing a new 1st-level module - Shadowed Keep on the Borderlands - and I thought it would be cool to design new iconics to use some of the new classes that have come out with Advanced Player's Guide et. al.

I'm going to design four new iconics and I wondering what classes people would like to see represented. I'm definitely doing a magus (mucho cool) but I won't be doing a gunslinger or alchemist. Given that, what other classes should I feature?

Witch. I want to badly to reed about Pathfinder's Iconic Witch Character, but there is no information other than name, race, deity, homeland, and alignment (Chaotic Good makes me want to learn about her even more. The good characters at the coolest.). If Pathfinder cannot provide, perhaps Raging Swan can.

The iconic witch (Feiya) isn't available for use by third-parties, but I'm sure Raging Swan is more than capable of coming up with a new iconic witch to use. :D

That's what I was suggesting. I'd never ask them to breach their contract. Sorry for the confusion.

Sczarni

Inquisitor
Barbarian
Ranger

those are my thoughts. i would also like to see some small warriors so maybe make the Barbarian a Halfling.

Liberty's Edge

First of all ... very cool!

What about a cavalier? Maybe even a halfling or gnome cavalier with a wolf mount or something?

Dark Archive

If you want to use mostly new classes. i would say...

Inquis as kinda the skill monkey/backup healer
Witch as the arcane caster/healer
Cav as the front line grunt.
Which leaves magus as a front line grunt and some extra arcana power

might be a little light on the healing but I think it could work. Could switch out a oracle for the inquis if it is a real problem.

Oracle. As per Clint Eastwood's Man with No Name.
Inquisitor. Hmm... Sherlock Holmes.
Witch. Mrs Marple?

Holmes is clearly a Rogue(investigator)/bard(detective) ;-)

I like DM's party setup. How about adding an oracle to this to round out the group? I think that makes a pretty nice group:

Inquisitor
Oracle
Cavalier
Witch
Magus

Make sure they differ well enough from the extant PF iconics, i.e. no Halforc pharasman repose inquisitor, no blind saranrae fire oracle, no half elf magus, no animal patron witch, no cockatrice order cavalier.

Also how about using some of the new archetypes?

Make another Half-Orc iconic! They're sorely under-represented in Pathfinder :(

Well all the core races are covered by the iconics so far:

dwarf ranger
elf rogue
gnome druid
halfling bard
halfelf magus/eldritch knight
halforc inquisitor

Are there any new race options in APG? How about using a nonstandard PC race, Creighton?

For classes, I'd vote cavalier, magus, witch, and oracle. Covers you well for spells, and not too shabby in combat. Kind of lacking a skill-monkey, though, admittedly; might add in a ninja, or rogue...

For races, I'd add at least one "special" race, just for fun - probably of the rogue, since there's already an "iconic rogue".

The only Thing that is noticably missing here is a trap finder. Anyone know a way to cover trapfinding with these classes?

I do not believe that trapfinders are still relevant.

I do not believe that most people on these forums still believe trapfinders are relevant.

I think it'd be nice if trapfinders were releveant, don't get me wrong. But they really don't matter.

They are less relevant than they use to be I agree. But I think it depends a lot on the game. I know in my current group while the group agrees if they have to be short on something a rogue/bard skill monkey is their first choice but they do hate being with out one.

Well then all the better. In the end it also depends on how creighton designs the adventure...

Yup! It's magus (far and away got the most votes) and oracle, cavalier and witch. I was surprised that ninja and samuari didn't get a single vote; I know they are pretty niche but I thought someone would go for them.

Thanks very much to everyone who voted - it changed my plans; I think for the better

While I like samurais and ninjas, it's the old school gamer in me that remembers them from the 1e "Oriental Adventures" book and we only played those classes when we were playing an OA adventure. I still haven't wrapped my head around the idea of a samurai or ninja in a non OA campaign. Also, remember how hard it was to be a ninja back then? But that's a cool set of iconics for your adventure. Kind of "new school" in the old school adventure. I like it.

Liberty's Edge

I am playing a half-orc oracle of stone in our bi weekly game and I LOVE him! The oracle of stone is AWESOME! It has really cool, interesting abilities.

I'd like to vote for the oracle to therefore be a half orc oracle of stone (named Umbral if I have my say :)

IF it's nonstandard, then it's not very iconic. :)

Yes, I know it's a popular meme. However, given the self-sufficient, solitary and martial nature of first detective, the demands of his work would make him an ideal inquisitor - an investigative, yet strongly martially inclined character.

Look at the list of skills: Perception, Disguise, Stealth, Sense Motive.
Along with 6 skill points per level.

This is Sherlock Holmes in nutshell.
