Crown of the Kobold King: Where is Brookman's Well located on the Falcon's Hollow map?

Lost Omens Products

Hi folks,

I'm looking at the map of Falcon's Hallow in "Crown of the Kobold King" and trying to figure out where Brookman's Well would be placed.

Brookman's Well is said to be "a small spring on the edge of town" in the "Hallow's Last Hope" module.

I was just wondering where others have placed it. Would it be outside the town wall?

Thank you

When I ran Hollow's Last Hope for my group I just retconned it to the well pictured in the village square on the town map.

Since Falcon's Hollow is a river town, heavily centered on river traffic, I just made the "well" a spring that feeds into the River Foam. I actually placed it a good ways out of town on the northern end, because I wanted there to be the chance of the spring actually being purposely tainted by Syntira's agents without being seen (that's my own subplot though, and not part of the official adventure).

I always assumed it was just "somewhere outside town". Never had to nail it down...

I was planning to do a similar subplot. I was going to combine the ideas in Hallow's Last Hope (with the blackscour tainted spring) and the kobold warrens of Crown on the Kobold King. Then I was going to ditch the kidnapped children hook. The hook would be the PCs investigating who poisoned the well - which they'd find out are the kobolds.

So, for this reason, I wanted to place the well on the map so the PCs could travel there and investigate it. Perhaps picking up clues or tracks.

Placing the spring out of town a bit and running off into the River Foam makes sense. How many miles out of town did you place it?

Also, just out of curiosity... How would villagers transport the water from the spring back to town? Would they just load up a cart with lots of wooden buckets full of water? Or, carry the buckets by hand if they didn't have transport?

Cheers

I'm going to spoiler this just because it's very module specific, and even though this is a thread about a module I would just feel guilty if it wasn't "spoilered" to steal a tagline from Zaboo.

Spoiler:
I put the spring about 3/4 of a mile north of town along the shoreline of the River Foam. That way it's far enough from town that someone could have purposefully planted the fungus, there. (Especially pesky pixies working for Syntira, that's why I went that route, also because I want to see if my PCs side with the creatures of the wood and defend them from the lumberjacks, or if they side with the lumberjacks and form a force to expel Syntira and her kind from the Vale.) Anyhow, I "wrote" it into the story like the spring is a spot where people are known to picnic on a nice day, and that when they do children frequently drink water right from the spring. That explains how the spring was the cause of the disease. Since the disease is an incubation disease, I figured that people are coughing up nasty phlegm and occasionally the droplets get on other people, their food, their drinks, their door-handles, etc. (you know, how normal infections spread) and that's why it keeps spreading. The module says Laurel found the blackscour fungus, and has made sure no one is drinking from it any more, so the cure now becomes not only a cure for those that have the disease, but also a cure to spread around the spring and kill the fungus where it lives (so to speak).

That's a long way to go for "set-up" story, but it does provide a realistic situation that requires the PCs to find all the parts of the cure, and eventually (for both of our groups anyway :) the necessity to find the culprits at hand.
