The Nekogami (using race creation guidelines)

Advanced Race Guide Playtest

the Nekogami, this time using the race creation guidelines from the playtest. it's not as minmaxed as you would expect a homebrew race to be. and these aren't your traditional Nekos. they are the descendants of the child goddess of Tigers. whom was a human monk that achieved godhood in her youth. but that doesn't mean they are designed to be the perfect monk. this race is intended to be of Tian Origin and can be used in your oriental campaigns with a little adaption of the fluff.

Racial Info:

Type. Outsider (Native) (2 race points) (Darkvision comes free with package)

Golarion Fluff:

Nekogami are the Biologically diluted mortal Descendants of Lady Shuriken of House Nekogami of the Minkai Empire. They are Typically Slight of frame with dark hair, yellow tinted skin, toned wiry muscles, and hazel hued eyes. They typically take the life of a monk, ninja, or fighter. Most Nekogami tend to be Vigorous with the ferocity of a Tiger in combat. They usually tend to live in human dominated sections within the Minkai empire and a few exist elsewhere. Female Nekogami are typically smaller in bust and rump as an adaption to increase their mobility. And due to the fact that male Nekogami have a hard time growing facial hair. Some of them take pride in what facial hair they have, protecting it with the vigor a lion has for his main. They are strong and agile, unlike what their wiry frames would suggest. They appear almost human, with the exception of their major feline tendencies. It’s the women that do the hunting and act as the dominant sex. And the men tend to protect the children and take over when their partner is incapacitated. They think like a predator, seeing their victims as prey to assist in sustaining them, are as Vigorous as a tiger, and tend to have conservative tendencies derived from a combination of their heightened metabolism, practical lifestyle, desire to avoid unwanted attention, and preference for comfortable, loose fitting garb. A simple robe usually suffices for either gender.

New Deity:

New Minor Deity. Nekogami Shuriken L/N

Nekogami Shuriken is the Child Goddess of Tigers, the Hunt, and pleasure Derived through Trial. She is of Lawful Neutral Alignment and is a Subcontractor of the gods, Irori, Erastil, and Zon Kuthon. In life, she was a human monk whom had reached godhood in her youth and is a minor Goddess.

Shuriken Nekogami’s Favored Weapon is the unarmed strike. If a divine class offers proficiency in her favored weapon (such as cleric or inquisitor for example). They gain improved unarmed strike as a bonus feat. Her domains are Darkness, Animal (must choose a Tiger as an animal companion), Healing, and Liberation.

i already know this race uses a single 1 point advanced ability. but i am sure it can slide in this case. it's just a bit of extra speed that only applies on land.

i am looking for opinions, though just because i hear an opinion doesn't mean i will follow it.

They seem ok, I don't think you should just let something "Slide", but the race doesn't seem that badly balanced, no way in hell they are going to be allowed in my homebrew but I can kind of see a place for them in Golarion

Why are they Outsiders? Being descended from a god doesn't automatically make you an outsider. Minotaurs are (in some settings, at least) born of a divine curse, yet they're Monstrous Humanoids.

I think they are Outsiders because according to the fluff, they are the direct descendants of a goddess, where as the minotaurs are born from a curse, or to make it even simpler IT'S MAGIC!!! and thats what the creator wanted, they wanted to create, how did A Man in Black put it? "Weeaboo Cat People"

I removed some posts. Just let it go.

Hey, like I said, I kind of like them, fluff and all, but I would never use them at home but I can see something like these guys appearing in the Tian books

if you do feel like using them one day. you can always adapt the fluff to fit your setting. assuming it has a Japan Analogue. i'd love to build a martial artist archtype monk out of one of these one day.

Liberty's Edge

"Nekogami Shuriken" - meaning roughly Graceful Cat Throwing Star? As a name for a god?

It can also mean "Cat god sword hidden in the hand". I've seen weirder names.

that's kind of the intended translation. and it fits her former life as a monk pre godhood.

No Asian analogue in my Homebrew setting, but I may play around with the fluff and a few of the abilities for the Vedic or Middle Eastern analogue in Talora. Maybe the whole "Cat People" thing could work in a nation based on Egypt.

Kind of creepy that they're descendants of a child god.

What are you trying to say?

it doesn't mean the descandants themselves are children. it just another way of saying thier ancester achieved godhood at a young age compared to the others who did. the other gods merely see her as a child in comparison to themselves. at DM discretion, she could have technically been a child at the time, or she technically could have been any age within the young adult spectrum.

I removed another post. Do not make bigoted, hateful, or racially insensitive statements.

here is the updated writeup for the Nekogami

Race:

Nekogami: (13 total Race points)

+2 Strength +2 Dexterity. Nekogami are strong and agile, despite what their slight frames would hint. (2RP)

Type. Outsider (Native) ; Nekogami are the mostly human blooded descandants of a minor goddess. (2RP) (includes darkvision in package)

Medium: Medium races have no bonuses or penalties due to their size. A Medium creature has a space
of 5 feet by 5 feet and a reach of 5 feet. (0RP)

Darkvision 60 ft: Members of this race can see in the dark up to 60 feet. This works like the dwarf ability of the same name (Free part of native outsider package)

Fast Speed; a Nekogami has a base land speed of 40 feet. (1RP)

Divine Will, a Nekogami, due to their Divine Nature Recieves a +2 Racial bonus on will saving throws (1RP)

Human Adaptability; Nekogami receive a bonus feat at first level for which they meet the prerequisites. In addition, they count as a human for the purpose of racially specific prerequisites. Such as feats or traits that require one to be human (4RP)

Nekogami Weapon Familiarity: Nekogami are proficient in the Katana and Wakiazashi (1RP)

Slight Frame: a Nekogami takes no penalties for squeezing (1RP)

Language: Common, Tien, Bonus Languages, Sylvan, Elven, Aklo, Vudra, Kelish, Giant, Abyssal (1RP)

i upped the language array and added a reskinned dual minded alongside slight frame. i figured it still shouldn't be too bad.

i discovered that i can save 2 points on the Nekogami Writeup by giving them a -2 to charisma. it would be fitting to thier predatory mindset to have an arrogant, cold, Calculative, personality.
