Advanced Race Guide Playtest

  • Tiefling: Their Spell-Like ability (Darkness) should cost 2, making it a total of 12 points.
  • Aasimar: The total is wrong. Should be 14

(I re-created those two races before I found the write-ups in the end).

Prehensile Tail (2 RP): Prerequisites: None; Benefit: Members of this race have a long, f lexible tail that can be used to carry objects. They cannot wield weapons with their tail, but they cannot retrieve small stowed objects carried on their persons as a swift action.

I believe that part should be: but they can retrieve small stowed objects carried on their persons as a swift action.

Half orcs have Darkvision, not Low-light, making them 11 points.

On a side note, Spell Resistance is way too cheap.

True. However math was done wrong. Total actually sums up to 9 as is. Fixing it with Darkvision will bring it to 10.

I assume you are talking about Orc Blood that doesn't apear anywhere and it's more of a Bane then a Boon. (Yes, I'm specifically talking about Bane)

    I mean (Copied from pdf):

    Languages
    Standard 1 RP

    Racial Abilities
    Low-light vision 1 RP
    Orc blood 1 RP
    Orc ferocity 2 RP
    Skill bonus 2 RP
    Weapon familiarity 2 RP

    Total RP: 9

Replace Low-light with Darkvision and you get 10 total.

    Edit:
As a side note, I just caught this. There is no description for Orc Blood or Elf Blood for that matter.

The Bugbear and fire elemental Greater paragon Ability scores are way off too.

A person with hands free pulls things out slower than someone with a tail. Why? Should this ability exist like this?

Also, no description for the half-elf's Multitalented.

In addition, why is low-light vision a -1 cost for the Dhampir?

Cut and Pasted from the PDF

Note that these races are only an approximation of
their monstrous counterparts and may not match exactly.

    Liberty's Edge

i doubt its an error but why are both small and medium races classified as 0 points. Surly small should be -1 if medium is 0. It is a disadvantage after all.

Also just as an opinion type thing the slow base speed only giving -1 seems iffy. Personally i reckon -2. Speed is a major thing.

Because you can still move while encumbered. I personally think non-penalized encumbered movement should be a 1 RP ability, and a 20 foot speed should be a -2 RP. You could call the new non-penalized encumbered movement Steady, thus giving us the Dwarf's Slow (-2RP) and Steady (1RP) ability.

Trading weapon damage, CMB, and CMD for bonuses to AC, attack rolls, and stealth rolls is great if you're a rogue or a spellcaster.

Small is not a disadvantage at all. +1 AC, +1 to hit, +4 Stealth for a lousy -1 to CMD and CMB. It should cost you to be small.

On a side note Large is way overpriced, you get the exact opposite from small and a +2 str and -2 dx. It's not worth 7 points at all.

Large gives you native reach which can be further increased by other spells and effects, which by some standards is absolutely priceless and beyond the scope of the system.

Large in the Playtest doesn't grant Reach by itself, though. You have to give the race a separate Reach ability for that.

No it doesn't. You have to buy reach, Large is only a pre-req.

Oh, whoops. That's odd, then. Reach is the most powerful thing large normally grants.

You are forgetting one other thing: the carrying capacity of Small creature is proportionately better than a Medium creatures.

It's 3/4 that of a Medium, but equipment weighs half as much.

Yeap. Small is awesome. It's better to be small then medium.

This is why I plan on making my own weight and lift system, because the 3.5 one is so horrible wrong and unrealistic.

Its basically Quick Draw as a bonus feat. That's all it is. It costs the same as Nimble Attacks and Quick Reactions but requires a tail (allowing it to be a non-advanced ability).
