I'm not sure I get the Inquisitor

Not too savvy with inquisitors from a mechanical perspective, but from a thematic standpoint, I read them as a more martial counterpart to a church's clerics. I would assume that a cleric operates in the open and focuses most of their energies on "the flock," whether that's leading them in battle or defending them from harm. If nothing exciting is happening, they're educating the laymen or gaining converts.

Inquisitors strike me as having a stronger crusading streak. They focus on the church's enemies, and when they run out, they go find more. Clerics and inquisitors both dedicate themselves to a variety of activities, but inquisitors seem less reactionary. They're always hunting something. What that something is just depends on their faith.
